Asters in the sun

"So what do you want to do?"

Tell me what you like to do.

"Anything you want to do."

I'll go anywhere with you.

"Well, I want to go somewhere you like."

Please, we always go wherever I want, please just let me know you.

"I don't really know… What about a garden?"

You like flowers?

"Sure."

Somehow, that makes sense. It's just very you.

"So… shall we?"

If you want to.

"Yeah. Let's go."

We've been doing this a lot lately, haven't we?

I ask you something, and you give me a vague answer that doesn't tell me anything about you. I really only know your name. Aster. It is a flower which symbolizes patience. It certainly fits you, considering you've been so very patient to open up to me. You still haven't, and I want you to. I want you to trust me more, and I want to trust you as well. I can't do that if you're not going to tell me about yourself.

"I want to know more about you." you suddenly speak.

I snort, because this is ludicrous.

"You already know everything about me. My info on you on the other hand is less than satisfactory."

"Hm."

The conversation ends there, being shut down by the silence.

"Do you know what the Aster flower means?" You ask, voice all too hollow for my liking.

"Yeah. Doesn't it symbolize patience, or like, wisdom?"

"Yep! It also symbolizes things like love and faith."

"Mmh." It's me this time that shuts down the conversation. Why are you saying this? So what if it symbolizes love. That flower has nothing to do with your feelings, or you. Faith, on the other hand…

"I have faith that you'll understand someday." You say, with an odd emphasis on the word 'Faith'.

"Understand what?" I ask, playing along.

"Understand my undying love for you!" You say, with the same emphasis as before, and even more dramatically. This time, your words bring a flush to my face.

"Oh, A-Aster, I had no idea you felt this way!" I say, equally as dramatic, placing my hand on my chest in a gesture of disbelief and shock.

"Yes, my love for you knows no bounds!" You burst into laughter as you finish your sentence, and I stare in wonder as you laugh—Like, really laugh.— a genuine smile stretches across your face.

"And I love you also," I reply, smiling. Not because I find it funny, but because you do.
