Chapter 1Chapter 1

Why is it so cold this time a year?

I think to myself upon entering my favorite little cafe.

My mocha hair blows with the wind and I find my self smiling softly as the warm air surrounds me as I enter.

I walk towards the showcase and my smile turns into a grin as I recognize my favorite treats.

Donuts completely covered in chocolate frosting.

Yum!

I walk towards the cashier ready to order but a deep growl catches me off guard.

My head snaps towards the direction and a guy stands there scowling at me. A very handsome guy I must admit. He had broad shoulders and was quite muscular. Tall, green eyes, brown short hair but still long enough that I could run my hand through it. I've seen that face somewhere though.

"It can't be you."He snarls in disgust and I look at him confused.

"Um..I'm sorry do I know you?" I ask, not in a rude way and he scoffs.

"You're not even one of us. Are you?"

One of them?

I look behind him and sure enough, four guys and two girls sat with the same amount of disgust or surprise. However, one of the guys look sympathetic and gave me a shy smile.

I mean I'm human so. . . aren't they human too?

I was going to smile back but a tight grip on my hand and a strong pull towards the door brought me out of my trance.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" I screech but he doesn't stop. His jaw ticks and I squirm as he pulls me into a deserted alleyway.

We stop and I glare at him as he stares at me.

"Uh hello?! What the hell is wrong with you?" I yell but he starts pacing.

"Listen. I may seem crazy but I'm... I'm a werewolf."

I do believe him. I know all about these creatures because my best friend is one.

"Okay," I tell him in a monotone voice.

"Okay?"

"Okay. Werewolves aren't really...uncommon in our school Leo." I roll my eyes getting annoyed as I recognize his face. I finally notice where I've seen him, and sure enough, the universe graced me with the school's most infamous bad boy and popular kid.

"We go to the same school?" He asks stupidly.

"Why am I here?" I snap.

"Right. Since you know what werewolves are...you know that there are mates.."

"And?"

He looks at me like I'm stupid and all the dots click together.

"No. . ." I whisper and he rolls his eyes.

"Yes. But you have to reject me."

"What? Why?" I ask confused. I heard it's painful and I wouldn't mind being his mate although...

"Because I don't want you."

"Woah... " I step back from his bluntness and ignore the hurt.

"First of all, you're black. You're a nerd, no parents, no life. You're lame. I don't even want to know your name much less mate with you. So do us both a favor and reject me."

Oh.

Okay. . .

There's this ache in my chest and although we just met and I never really had any feelings for him, it hurts. A lot.

The tears prick the corner of my eyes and I find myself moving backward.

"I-i I'm sorry. I-" I quickly spin around and run.

Ignore the frustrated cry that comes from the alleyway.

All he wants is to live a normal life of a human but the life of a dragon is anything but normal. He has but one goal—to find his runaway betrothed and behead her. What happens when he discovers that the woman who has snagged his heart is the one he vowed to kill? Oriana, a Black Witch, disguising herself as a man, has spent her entire life on the run without knowing what she is running away from. When the mysteries of her past slowly catch up to her, she has no one to turn to…except Arlan. But when she learns that the man she has given her heart to is the same man who wants to kill her, how can she accept the cruel card life dealt her? Two people with secrets to keep, identities to hide, and answers to find. When the certain darkness threatens to take Oriana away, will the Dragon be able to protect his mate? ----- Excerpt- “If I knew you were my betrothed, I would have killed you the very first moment we met." Arlan's gaze darkened with hatred. “If I knew I was betrothed to you, I would have killed myself before you even killed me!” Oriana mirrored the same emotions as him. He pulled out a dagger and offered it to her. “It’s not too late. Just slit your throat with this and you'll bleed out painlessly.” She accepted the knife, her fingers clutching its handle tightly. The next moment, he was pressed against the wall and the knife was on the right side of his neck. “How about I try it on you first, my betrothed?” “Feel free to try. But when you fail, this knife will first taste your grandpa's blood, then yours.” Anger rose in her eyes, and the next moment, blood was flowing through the right side of his neck. She cut deep enough to severe an important blood vessel. “You should not have challenged me,” she sneered and stepped back, waiting for him to collapse. He simply smirked and brushed his finger along the deep wound on his neck. “Seems like you failed.” She watched the wound on his neck heal on its own and felt shocked to her bones. “You.. what are you?” “Guess?” ----- Instagram- mynovel.20 Facebook- Author mynoveltwenty
