The three of us, as well as a few others, all met within a Sect that no longer exists. The name of it is not important. What is important is that each of us - our little group, I mean - were the top of our class in something. I specialized in Destruction Magic, Dudley was great as Conjuration, Ambrose was fit for summoning, Cobb was for Restoration, and Rydel seemed to be good at pretty much everything. There were more of us that joined together, but this group I've described was our core five. We vowed to never fight amongst ourselves and to work together for the good of the continent.
