A few days later, around the city gate, on the bustling, crowded main road, a merchant caravan loaded with cargo slowly pulled over. The head of the convoy began ordering his subordinates to unload the goods so that his business partners could acknowledge receipt.
This caravan was just passing through Gourian City, thus discharging only parts of their commodities.
During this process, two figures, one of them lanky and another small in stature, jumped down from one of the wagons.
Both of them wore clerical robes and pure white cloth shoes. The tall one was a square-faced man with rosy cheeks. He was carrying a sword on his back.
The shorter one was a pretty woman. Although her face gave a hint of tiredness, she seemed to be well-cultivated, hinting at her prestigious background.
"Brother Youny, is here Gourian City?"
The woman's crisp voice bore a childlike quality.
"Yes, it is." The gangly man nodded at her before continuing, "Ronri, I really appreciate your efforts in accompanying me on such a long journey."
Then, the male monk surveyed around and soon laid eyes on a red paper notice plastered next to the city gate.
Around the announcement stood a crowd of people, even including two gatekeepers chatting among them.
All of these people wore astounded expressions on their faces.
"I felt happy while keeping Brother Youny's company on this journey. Eh? There seems to be a reward poster over there. Why not go have a look first? Perhaps someone in trouble is asking for help."
Ronri was abundantly experienced in this sort of thing after traveling widely with Youny Geey.
They had stumbled upon several events through the notices put up by the families in need.
Youny Geey nodded in agreement.
"Well. Let's go and have a look."
The two of them walked over and elbowed their way through the crowd to read the poster.
Chattering around them was clear now:
".... It's the Le family... The city is now really in a turmoil. Even the Le family has their share of troubles."
"Some of the Le family's household staff had escaped from the Mansion, including a team leader of guards. It's rumored that all the people in the Le Mansion are unsettled now."
"I haven't seen Yuri for quite some days. Has something unfortunate really happened to her?"
The surrounding people were chatting intermittently.
While listening carefully to the idle talking, Youny Geey looked up at the poster, which read:
"A bounty of five thousand silver coins is hereby offered to any individuals capable of solving the peculiar occurrences in our Mansion.
In recent days, a variety of strange phenomena have been reported throughout the city, accompanied by instances of individuals going missing.
Not long ago, there was the tragic event of the Xavir family and then the well-drowning incident at the Wein Village. Now, our Le family has experienced the strange phenomenon of hearing a woman sobbing in our Mansion in the middle of the night.
In the interest of maintaining peace and security within our Mansion, we hereby offer a bounty of five thousand silver coins for the thorough investigation of these occurrences and the recovery of those missing."
The notice was written in clear, simple terms and stated a straightforward requirement.
Below it was another piece of paper detailing all the events since the female sobbing was first heard in the Mansion.
It did not conceal the fact that many people went missing at all.
Youny Geey read this notice carefully before knitting his brows tightly.
"This is it. Let's go to the Le Mansion."
Ronri also finished reading this notice while standing beside him.
"We happen to be looking for spirit's type of entities and, by solving this matter, we could make some money for the road."
"Eliminating spirits and ghosts is not about money." Youny Geey said with seriousness.
"Well, sure." Ronri stuck out her tongue playfully and then fell silent. She knew Youny Geey's character very well. When he wanted to help somebody, he never paid any regard to monetary rewards.
Youny Geey then walked up and tore the red-paper notice off the wall.
The Le Mansion's servant who was keeping watch by the side was overjoyed at the sight of this.
"Please follow me, both of you!"
Youny Geey nodded.
He and Ronri tagged along behind the servant and headed for the Le Mansion.
A commotion immediately ran through the surrounding crowd. Some of them also fell in behind Youny Geey and Ronri to see if they really were proceeding to the Mansion.
The duo in clerical robes seemed to be people to be reckoned with.
Although trailed by these people, Youny Geey seemed nonchalant. Apparently, he was already accustomed to being the center of attention.
At the same time, Ronri struck up a conversation with the servant, further inquiring about the recent events in the Mansion.
Then, the servant ushered the two of them into a horse-drawn carriage. The carriage trundled along the streets, making a few turns before pulling over.
Once the couple descended from the vehicle, another servant rushed up and led them into the Mansion. They were immediately greeted with an exquisite, luxuriously arranged scene featuring artificial hills, creeks, and bridges, along with trees and flowers.
Soon afterward, Youny Geey and Ronri arrived at a drawing room.
