Everything is Peaceful Here

Exhaustion takes over. I collapse on the ground. I groan under Dagon’s full weight, landing on top of me. “I guess this is where we make camp,” I mumble breathlessly. I carefully roll from underneath Dagon. I move him into a more comfortable position and quickly check his wounds. When I reassured myself that he is okay for now, I push myself with some trouble up from the ground. I am beyond exhausted, but I know I am in no position to just go to sleep. Not now. We are still too close to the castle, and a legion of guards is searching for us. At least the glawackus are not after us anymore. The shit and the cold water covered our scents.

I perform a short but thorough perimeter check before gathering supplies like big leaves, more herbs, and stuff I need to build – or braid – a cot. I sure as hell will not be carrying Dagon on my back. And on a cot, I can position him in a way that will not ‘disturb’ his back. Also, it is easier to pull along, so a cot is what I need.
