Chapter four

~Sofia~

"You're fired." My boss's voice came harsher than before on the other end of the phone.

Was he obsessed with that word?

It was just Saturday morning when his call interrupted me from making breakfast for everyone.

Though, his words were meant to install fear in me but somehow, I was calm cause I knew he'd retract it, giving me a condition. That's because I'm a faithful rare-type worker. So all I need to do is play to his words.

I cleared my throat whilst preparing a convincing speech in my head.

"What?.... I'm sorry, I meant why?" My voice faltered like I wanted.

"For slapping your guest, twice!!" He almost yelled.

I would have tried defending myself. That guest needed the slap.

But I needed the job so badly.

"I'm so sorry. I need the job. Please don't do that to me." I tried my best moulding my voice to be the most apologetic.

"Come to think of it. You spilled coffee on your guest and didn't apologize. Am I right?"

"But he....."

"Am I right?" He maintained his firm, angry tone.

"Yes." I replied like a submissive girl being scolded.

Tracing my mind to that time when I poured coffee on him, I realised I was at fault for not apologizing immediately. Though, the guest is also at fault for using the opportunity to think he could control me.

"So this time, you must apologise sincerely and do whatever he says. And you'd always be the one to attend to him henceforth."

What? I can't bare to stay a minute with him. And now he'll be my permanent guest! Argghh.

There's no way to convince my boss. I knew he meant what he said. So, I've got no choice than to give in and do that.

"That way, I'd considered you keeping the job." He added.

I nodded, forgetting I wasn't standing in front of his desk.

"Okay sir. I'll do it." I found my voice immediately.

I had to rectify my mistake for slapping the poor guest right. Besides, I need the job. So, agreeing to it is the best thing for now.

He ended the call.

Phew.

"What the he say?" Kelly attacked me.

I told her everything and she was ranting on how she'd deal with his moon face demonstrating it with the batter we were going to use for english muffin.

She wouldn't dare do that to poor Drake's face.

Done with her ranting, she turned to face me.

"That guest is the one for you Sofia. I feel it."

"Yeah. Says the fortune teller." We laughed it unison.

"Look at me mom!" My adorable five year old girl yelled, storming her tiny feets on the ground.

We were going to the mall and I had given her the opportunity to dress herself. I understand her stage. She wants that independence of tieing her shoelaces, bathing herself and doing some other things without my help.

"Momm!" Her brows creased.

"Alright cutie. I'm looking at you." I said, my tone calm as usual, remembering to plaster a warm smile on.

She places her shades on and I studied her perfectly. She looked vibrant in her pink and white striped shirt tucked into a white jean short and brown belt. Her black hair, like mine, was successfully parted and combed. Her tiny feets were coated in white sandals. She looked like a bad-ass short girl, first day at work. I was surprised, first day dressing herself and she killed it. I smiled

"You look so pretty. Did you really dress yourself? Without Lois's help?"

"Yes. Myself." She places her hand confidently on her chest, proving it was all her doing.

I went over to hug her as I ran my hand through her hair.

"I'm so proud of you! You're growing up."

She looks up to me, revealing her sparking brown eyes, like her father's, smiling to my comment.

Grabbing her hand, we went over to Kelly's car. Kelly was also shocked Anna dressed herself, telling Anna how I placed my legs in the sleeves of my blouse when I was younger as we drove to the mall.

Of course it wasn't true but she just wanted to hear Anna's cute laugh.

Shopping was fun with Kelly and adorable Anna. We had people commenting on Anna's dressing and she'd proudly tell them. "I dressed myself." They'd just smile and she'd do the same. With her little brown teddy bear she loves so dearly, cupped in her hand, her face lit up as she bounced round the mall as if dancing to a music only she could hear. She was so happy and it was clearly written on her.

Kelly joked with us, tucking her strawberry blonde repeatedly behind her hair while constantly fixing a pleasant smile. And when it was time to pay, she payed for everything.

Now, I and Anna stood in front of the mall waiting for Kelly to bring her car and pick us.

Anna was speaking to her brown teddy bear bobbling with it, I told her to stay still but like every other children, scolding them is like a spark that'd prompt them to do more than they are already doing.

"Momm!" Anna's voice caught my attention.

Her teddy bear fell off her hand and a car's tyre stumbled on it, crushing it. Her face crumbled, her once vibrant face was becoming dull with a threat to spill tears. And when she crys, she scream.

Who dares destroy my daughter's happy mood? Nobody does this to my daughter and gets away with it.

With rage, I stood in front of the car facing it, my hands on my waist.

The car stopped.

When the person inside the car didn't come out immediately, I took off and sat on the bonnet.

And someone landed on the spot beside me on the bonnet. I turned to look.

It was Kelly. Good. I have a fighter with me.

People stared at us, some laughing, some shooting us an eerie glare while some just passed mumbling what I couldn't catch.

Then, the person inside the car all along came out. He is a black, averagely tall guy with thick black curly hair. And a little chubby too.

"I'm so sorry. I_"

"Are you human at all? Crushing a little girl's toy?" Kelly shot at him, cutting him off.

I got off the bonnet and pulled Kelly along with me but she shrugged my hand off, her face still fixed on the guy, ready to hurl more words at him.

"He apologised Kelly. It's okay."

She ignored me still, shooting more words at how cold hearted he was. Not even sparing him a chance to say anything.

Then the rare door of the car opened and another guy came out.

My eyes nearly popped out of my head.

It's him. The guest I'd attend to henceforth.

Why him?
