Promise form A Certain Friend

Hundreds of people were rushed to the hospital, and soon the hospital was filled with patients who were said to have overdosed on drugs. Responding personnel quickly saw the patients sick and disoriented. Some whimpered in pain, while others lay still because they were too weak to move. The air was heavy with the sounds of heavy breathing, coughing, and occasional screams, and many of them were unable to get a room and lay on the floor.

Medical personnel ran around, administering IV fluids, monitoring vital signs, and trying to keep patients alive. Until doctors and nurses were exhausted and struggling to provide adequate care to everyone.

Amidst the chaos, the medics were at a loss as to how to deal with this, as this was no ordinary overdose case, the patient's bodies looked asphyxiated, burned from the inside out and their skin was blackened and many of them died within hours.

When Rudy woke up in the morning, he found himself in a Los Santos hospital bed. Before he realized what was happening he saw a figure sitting next to him. That figure turned out to be Jack.

"You finally woke up. to be honest I was a bit surprised to see you recover so drastically"

"Ahhh....arg...What happened?"

"We found you the under the bridge last night"

"How did you find me?"

"We didn't take your word for it ..... so we followed you even though we lost track of you, but it wasn't long before we found you."

"So what's next?"

"You can go to court and most likely you will be sentenced to rehabilitation or you will volunteer for rehabilitation"

"*shight*.... That's not an option..."

"Don't complain, you should be grateful, you won't get any punishment and we didn't arrest you, for a charge of protecting a criminal."

"Why didn't you arrest er... me?"

"Remember yesterday I gave you my number and Han's?"

"Yeah, so?"

"Well...I need your help. You're one of my leads to beat the Black Eagle at their game."

"Me? Why me?"

"Others can, but you're my first lead."

"But what will Han say?"

"Don't tell him about this. He's fixated on the legal process because we failed to beat Burn at the trial in court because of minor issues like not having a warrant despite the evidence we had"

The doctor entered the room in a rush.

"Sorry, I'm a little late. Since last night we have been full of patients with the same case as you, and the organization of Sanctuar-!!!!!!!!!"

The doctor was surprised to see Rudy miraculously recovered completely.

"AAAA!!!!!, w-what happened...how can you recover completely! In 6 hours!?, this is already the 8th time this has happened"

"Sorry what do you mean Doc? aren't you treating me for an overdose?"

"Your case is not just an ordinary overdose"

"W-what happened to me!"

"When you were rushed here your whole body had burns, after being explained by this gentleman I didn't believe that it was just an overdose"

Jack looked at Rudy.

"Before we brought you here.... some mysterious people were doing first aid....at least that's what they said. And they also said that they found you after the shift because of your screaming."

"Who are they?"

"No idea....they said they were researchers with medical experts who could help you....and they had ID cards proving their claim....if you ask me, I don't trust them."

"Why?"

"Because we never leave you for too long and they're already there... and with this incident, I'm starting to get very suspicious... let's continue this later"

"Sorry if this is cutting into the conversation can I check on the patient for a moment?"

"Oh please go ahead"

The doctor started to approach Rudy and took hold of his left hand and examined the flesh and muscles by squeezing them.

"The adrenaline and painkillers should have lost their effect. Mr. Hoyt, can you feel any pain here?"

"No Doc."

The doctor shifted his focus to the leg. And was surprised to see a leg that should have been deformed could return to normal.

"AHHH WHAT!? Your leg-your leg should be....how?. it's r-recovered?"

"W-What!?"

Rudy looked so confused but he was happy too.

"I can finally walk again...I can't believe it...I've been reborn!...." tears started falling from Rudy's face and he started crying happily at the doctor's words.

"you are the only one who can do perfect regeneration, the other 7 patients can only go back to full recovery, but you! you the only one that able to generate muscle and even skin"

"Wait Doc, from earlier I heard there were others like me, what happened to them?"

"Many victims fell like you and on average they died within 2 hours. I didn't expect you and the other 7 to survive."

Rudy's face went from joyful to shocked and was dripping with cold sweat as he couldn't believe what had happened.

"....A mass death?..."

Jack looked frustrated and clenched his fists.

"If.....if only we could have stopped them"

"That's right, and I was contacted that I should tell you and the other patients who had this strange overdose would be sent to Sanctuary."

Rudy and Jack were stunned to hear those words.

"Huh?"

"Sanctuary? ..... Aren't they just a rehabilitation community owned by the state Doc?" asked Rudy.

"News of this mass overdose has spread nationally and possibly internationally. The government authorized experts in this field to conduct recovery and examination."

"Yeah, but why Sanctuary," asked Jack.

"Maybe because there is no lab big enough to accommodate all the victims so they changed the place of rehabilitation because of this sudden event, no one is ready to respond to all this. Officer, may I ask for help to take this patient home first and let his significant other know about his transfer. And don't forget to fill out the administration when you leave."

"Alright, Doc" Jack replied.

Rudy and Jack walked out of the hospital and saw the chaos on their way out. On the way out Rudy saw medical personnel handling patients outside the treatment rooms because there were so many patients. the sound of coughing, shortness of breath, screams of pain, and crying could be heard everywhere. And on their way, Rudy was horrified by the deaths of patients who didn't survive in many places as they made their way to the exit.

After they came out of the hospital, many policemen prevented families and relatives from entering the hospital so as not to hinder the medical personnel who were dealing with the patients. One of them approached Jack and Rudy.

"Jack, you're here, are you going home?"

"It seems like this is a very big thing. I might be told to work overtime and be ready to stand by if there is a sudden briefing. and before that I want to send this kid home first, Rudy where is your house?"

"Straight north from here" Rudy replied.

"OK then, I need your help now to escort the ambulance they have the same direction of destination as this skinny kid"

"Alright, Rudy you just get in my car. My car is the red one"

Jack walked and wanted to talk to the ambulance driver before he threw the car keys to Rudy.

"There are many red cars in the parking lot, you just need to press the button so you know where my car is parked."

"OooK...."

Rudy headed to the parking lot.

he pressed the button on the key.

Immediately the red car from the back is beeping.

Rudy entered the car and drove it to the front of the hospital.

Jack entered the car.

"Move."

Rudy changed the seat next to him, and Jack took over the steering wheel.

jack started driving his car to escort the ambulance while turning on the siren.

"Hey Rudy"

"Yes?"

"On the night you did something like that, what are you going to tell your family and friends?"

"I don't know" Rudy felt embarrassed and he could only bow his head.

"I know what you're going through is hard and maybe you're also afraid to talk about all this to them, if you want I could say all this to them"

"No thanks, I'll tell them myself, I have a lot to tell them" Rudy raised his head and had determination in his eyes.

"Alright, I'm also busy today anyway. It looks like after briefing I'll be escorting politicians or ambulances in a week, and it looks like more victims will fall before many people realize what the Black Eagle has done"

"Don't forget to save my number. Next week, I will ask you to come to a place I have prepared, I have questions about what you know"

"Okay."

When they arrived in front of Rudy's residence. Rudy saw the crowd in his neighborhood and the sound of crying could be heard from the car.

and it turned out that the ambulance came here.

Rudy and Jack got out of the patrol car and saw what happened

when he saw a child whose whole body was burned.

"Timmy? ....TIMMY? IT'S THAT YOU TIMMY?" Rudy hugged Timmy.

Timmy was lifted by the medical personnel. Rudy ran to the medical personnel who wanted to take Timmy to the hospital.

" *Crying* Please, please save him. I can't lose him."

"We'll do our best for him, but his condition is very bad. He has very severe burns all over his body."

" *sighs in anguish* please, I beg you. I don't know what I would do without him. He's too young to die."

The medics started to get into the ambulance and set up the heart rate monitor but Timmy had already died before leaving for the hospital.

Rudy felt like he had lost a big part of himself. He felt sad, disappointed, and devastated at losing the person he cared about most.
