idk if the author has read it but the CN novel Bank of the Universe has a pretty interesting artifact, mainly the Bank of the Universe. It's basically a bank that exists in its own space that sends invites throughout the world to desperate people that want to make deals. if they accept, they are teleported to the bank but they become powerless. the bank also has a few interesting areas like a library with every book, a forge that can mass produce equipment with ease, a garden that increase resources growth speed by a lot, and more to be unlocked. How's that for obscure?
