Yes you are right, a javelin is a better long range weapon and a mace can definitely deal more damage, but there are some problems. 1. The javelin is a weapon that is designed to kill people/animals of earth and not slimes. A slime getting hit by a javelin would be more useless than punching it. 2. He could use a mace , but that would mean that he would have to get close to a slime and although he may act tough, he is still afraid to confront them head on. 3. It just is a cooler weapon.

Think of this. If you were in the same situation what would he your first question? I would think that as Caid shouldn't know about Nen then his first question would be; what are the four main principles and not just nonchalantly ask if there were three more.
