Because it's easier for the authors to write about that profession. It requires minimum research on the subject, and the chances of getting facts wrong is minimum. Also, you can always add fiction around the cook easily. Other professions are tough to research on and with ever evolving trends and technologies, it's easier to go wrong when narrating the story.
