Fortifying the Town
Alex stood the morning after in the middle of the town square, his eyes scanning over the people who had congregated. The sun was only up-rays of light softening through the town-but already the night's celebration was a memory. Now, expectation coursed like electrical charge through the air. Alex had made a decision-one that he knew would mold the very future of this town and the people within it.
"We must fortify the defenses of this town," said Alex. His voice showed no shake; firm, yet steady. "The victory we had yesterday was only the beginning. The Demon King will strike again, and when he does, we need to be ready."
A murmur swept the audience, with individuals turning to one another with concerned faces. That there should be yet another attack when they had just won this fight was unnerving, but they trusted Alex. He had proved himself in this fight, and now they were depending on his judgment.
