Alex stood at the edge of the rocky cliff, looking over at the little town pressed between its walls. Early morning fog was drifting lazily, concealing most of the town's activity from his gaze, but Alex knew that beneath that quiet surface lay his next challenge. The town was ruled by a minor lord who had long pledged his loyalty to the demon king. Capturing the town would mark the first step in establishing his own power-the means of gaining a foothold against the demon king's forces.
"Are you sure about this?" Mara asked, coming up beside him. She peered out over the valley, her brow furrowed in concern.
Alex nodded and set his face. "This is where it begins. The lord here isn't powerful, but he has held this town in fear for years. Now we have to free it, and in doing so, send a message to the demon king that we are no longer going to hide anymore. "
