Not easy to pin down

The event was held at one of the largest hotels in the country. The guests were high officials in the government.

“How is the preparation coming along?” I asked Peter as soon as we left the airport

“Everything is ready, but they insisted that the president of JS Events be there to confirm it.”

“What kind of people are these. I thought you had it under control. What do they want?”

“I didn’t know who they are before, but they are influential people in city S.”

“That unfortunate. I thought I would not return here for a long time.” I said out loud, and Peter curiously looked at me from the side. Of course, I was not going to tell him what had happened in the city before

I went straight to my booked hotel room and dropped everything in there before going to the event venue. The engagement party would be on the ground floor of the same hotel I booked. Having made lots of money in the last two years, I would not sleep in some shabby room.

I say enjoy your money while you still can.

I changed into a more presentation outfit that suited the occasion and went down.

“Wow,” I said the moment I entered the event venue.

Peter was there at the door waiting for my arrival. I saw the way he looked at me, and my heart skipped a bit. It had been a while before someone looked at me that way. I knew for sure Peter was in love with me, but I could not entertain it. It would be too complicated.

I was happy about the move James made. I wanted the event to be over so I could have time to talk things over with him. Not being the same person a few years back, I was ready for a fight if his family brought one up. I was not an easy person to pin down.

They would see fire if they tried something stupid

Peter walked toward me and bowed slightly in respect. That’s what he always does when we are out in public. He gives me the respect I deserve as his boss. That’s what I liked about him. He was professional

Sometimes I wonder. If I gave him a chance, would he still respect me as his boss, him being my husband? Well, that’s a thought that sometimes crept into my mind. It’s funny. Right?

“How is everything?”

“It’s great. The guest will be here in the next one hour. I have ordered for the waiters and waitress of the day to be very careful and work hard.” Peter said, looking at the waitress getting ready at the front and familiarizing with the place

“That’s great,” I said

“Where are they? They wanted to see me, but they are nowhere to be seen.” I scoffed, looking around. I looked at Peter, and he seemed to be hiding something.

“What is it? You look pale. Is there something that I should know?”

“I saw the woman who insulted you at the office days ago in the kitchen instructing on the food. I am worried about you.” He said, and I was surprised

“How come?” looking at him and the place. I asked him the details of the mysterious people that asked for their services. They paid lots of money to have us come from West City to City S. At first, I was skeptical about them, but Peter convinced me to take the job. I ultimately handed it over to him. I didn’t even follow up until they demanded me to come over.

“What is the name of the client?” I asked, thinking of something

“The Watson family. I didn’t know it was them until I saw a signing board in the other room that is to be placed at the front. I think they hid it on purpose.” He analyzed as I looked at him. He seemed to notice my worry

“What’s wrong?” He asked

“I don’t know, but I don’t think it’s going to be okay. The target is me.” I said to him, and he looked shocked

“What’s going on between you and the Watson family.” he sighed slightly before asking.

“You don’t want to know. It’s a long story.” I looked at his worried face and parted his back, “Don’t worry. I will overcome whatever obstacle they have for me.” I said, going back to my room

I tried to analyze everything from A to Z

“What could they be planning?” I asked myself over and over. Before knowing it, it was already 730, and the guest had already arrived at all of them. It was only the family members that had yet to come.

Soon the Watson family arrived, and I could hear the applause from the corridor where I was hiding. I didn’t dare go away nor go downstairs. I didn’t know whose engagement was since they had not announced, but my heart was in a panic.

“What would I do if it’s James who is getting engaged?” I had that question in my head, but I could not have an answer. I know I love him from the bottom of my heart but seeing him getting engaged to another woman would be a disaster.

I felt my heart grip hard, and it was painful just thinking of it. I saw Mrs. Watson get out of the car together with her husband and son. I didn’t know much about the other son, but James was not there. They went inside, and a few moments later, another car drove in. I held my heart tight, hoping it was not James. The heart pounding in my chest was not low. It felt like something was flowing from deep within me and all through the body

I saw a man’s shoes first, and then he stepped down before completely opening the door from my side. My heart skipped in fear when he closed the door after completely getting down. I held my chest hard, trying not to look at them, closing my eyes.
