CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE

JAMIE'S POV

I ignored the text message and the drivers advise. I'm hungry and I need to pee, with my biggest problem being, how do I get out of this f***ing vehicle.

I can't wait to get home and invade the kitchen. Mom called the PI, which is why she stayed back at home. Dad is expected to show up with the PI and hopefully that will be between him, mom and I.

"Mrs. Daniels, would you like to make a stop anywhere before we head back to the cabin?" Cameron asks politely.

I tried smiling through my discomfort, "I'm good thanks* I responded just as politely, adding, " I just can't wait to get home." I tell him, wishing I could say, speed it up.

"Yes ma'am" Cameron answered, continuing the drive back home in silence.

I was breaking inside by the time we drove through the driveway where men were at work digging holes and trucks with building materials.

"What is going on here?" I whispered to myself.

As we approach the front door unable to wait longer, "Jer!" I shouted.

Cameron went to the back to take off the wheelchair, but I called Jer instead.

"I'm going for your chair" he started to say,

I interrupted him, "I need to pee." I cried frustrated.

Recognising my urgency, Jer chuckles and walks with me inside straight to my bedroom and the toilet. I didn't even shut the door, I simply sighed in relief.

While I was in the wash room, Jer returned with the chair, my phone and my handbag.

Jer wheeled the chair into the washroom where I stood waiting by the sink.

Laughing at myself, "gosh it's such a relieve to pee. I never want to go through this again." I fanned my neck. "Now food" I told him as I adjusted myself in the chair.

"What happened with you and Grey earlier?" Jer asked me casually.

Eying him suspiciously, "what are you talking about?" I evaded his question, "and what's with all the men on the property, digging, pounding. What's going on and why aren't you on school?" I asked ready if he tries to shut me down as Logan did earlier.

He narrowed his eyes at me, obviously confused, "didn't Grey tell you?" he asked instead.

Rising my hands in surrender, "I give up," I started to wheel the chair with Jer following me.

"I don't care what your excuse is, tomorrow you're going to school" I threw over my shoulder, as I rolled away, hungrily to the kitchen.

Mrs. Stanley stood at the counter cutting vegetables smiling to herself, lost in thought and I didn't have the heart to interrupt her. I opened the refrigerator instead, taking out a bread and cheese. I'm so hungry, I'll keep it simple and now that I can move around with the chair, I can help out some more and stop being and invalid.

"Darn!" I muttered at bit too loudly, because I heard Mrs. Stanley call my name.

"Sorry, I apologize for disturbing you, but I am so hungry." I told her, but she was already wiping my hands in a kitchen towel.

Laughing softly, "don't you worry about me, I am always lost in thought. How are you and what did the doctor say." she quickly changed the topic about herself and her feelings as usual.

Mrs. Stanley looked so tired and drained, but she persisted in doing the household chores, refusing anyone else to come in and help.

"I'm not going to tell you how I am feeling unless you tell me how you are feeling." I responded stubbornly.

She was surprised for a moment but quickly recovered, "as soon as your little angel is born, I'm resigning from kitchen duties and it will just be baby duties." she comes and take the bread and cheese from the table and puts it back into the refrigerator.

"Hey" I complained, but she was already putting a plate into the over to heat up. "Your over protective husband called and told me to prepare something for when you get back," she explained noticing me staring at the plate. "Did you two argue?" Mrs. Stanley asked,

Annoyed because everyone seems to know and I am sure that I will be blamed as usual.

Instead I started to complain about my feeling to her, "I am fed-up of being an invalid, having to depend of others. I mean, you have lost the love of your life and what am I doing, nothing. I am doing nothing to help you. Instead, I am being a burden to you and everyone else. Logan, mom, mu brother. Even my sister has gotten fed-up of me." I paused my complaining as my mind ran on Jess.

I stare at Mrs. Stanley, "do you hear anything about Jess from Gwen?" I asked softly, hoping that she's fine.

Mrs. Stanley, avoided my eyes, taking the plate out of the over and putting it on the table, "come eat, make sure little Logan is fed." she said as I rolled towards the table.

I started eating the chicken salad sandwich, my favourite right now. "Please tell me about Jess, I need to know what I did wrong and what I did to hurt her." I said quietly, before I continued with my lunch.

Putting down the knife, "Jamie, I am not one for gossip and I love Logan and he loves you. I will share what I know and if you betray me, I will never say anything to you again." she threatens.

Desperate to hear something at least, "I promise." I quickly agreed..

Positioning herself to see through the open doorway, "I heard her venting while I was there and somethings I am going to repeat, I'm now hearing from Gwen.

"I don't think you and Jessica are sisters." she said softly watching for my reaction and I didn't fail to deliver.

Already starting to panic, "what are you talking about. please tell me."
