CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE

Justin and I travelled alone while Jerome decided to take Gwen as his date when he meets Clyde Daniels again.

Gwen has already been briefed concerning Jerome's runaway sisters, since Jessica is living with my grandparents helps make the story acceptable.

Jerome also invited two college friends whom he coaxes into hanging out with him and his new girlfriend, at his childhood hangout, with their respective dates.

I hope those kids are able to pull this off and we find out exactly what Clyde knows about me and what their thoughts are concerning me or if my existence bothers them at all.

I know what I have to do and having grandmother in my corner will be my greatest weapon against grandfather's mistress, whom she continues to detest.

Justin ordered dinner for us to take since he didn't want to chance any spike food from my grandparents home and he claims since we're not allowed to drink, eating is the next best option.

Grandmother's favourite takeout food is Italian, so Italian it is.

The same security from last night was on duty, welcoming us instantly at the entrance of the suite.

"Your grandmother is expecting you," he says turning to Justin, "both of you." He concluded and I couldn't help laughing because grandmother knows I don't go far without Justin.

"And my grandfather?" I asked curiously.

"Oh he's out" the security responded with a shrug, turning to open the door for us.

"He does that a lot?" I asked curiously, "leaving grandmother alone?" I asked.

With a guarded expression the security stared at me, "would you care?" He retorted and I was actually taken aback at his response.

"Of course, she's my grandmother?" I defended my actions instantly, because in spite of everything, my grandmother was a active part of my growing up years. Even after her accident, that left her on the wheelchair.

Justin walks ahead of me into the apartment with the dinner, but I stayed back, because I need ot know that my grandmother is safe.

"Then why do you only visit when there's trouble on your end?" The security asked and I still remained to hear what he has to say.

"After my grandfather and grandmother tried to have my wife killed, I had to keep a low profile" I admitted, hoping my confession would encourage him to share what has been happening here.

"Your grandmother?" The security repeated in disbelief. "I don't believe that" the security concluded, indicating that I should enter the apartment.

Nodding, although I am not satisfied to leave this conversation hanging, "what time do you expect my grandfather back, so I can make myself scarce?" I added, waiting for him to answer, but again he just shrugged.

"It depends on when his son drops him off," the security says moving to pull in the door.

"His son?" I repeated and he nods slowly as if he just realize he's said to much.

Looking back at his co-worker nervously, "please your grandmother is waiting for you." He gives me a silent plead.

Turning to his co-worker, who was now focused on us, with raised eyebrows I nod at him, "you have a problem with me updating myself about my grandparents wellbeing?" I challenged him and he simply shook his head, but kept his eyes on me.

"Later," I nod to the the security, before walking through the open doorway, that was quickly shut behind me.

I followed the laughing sounds of Justin and my grandmother into the sitting room, my eyes making a quick sweep ensuring my bitch sister-in-law isn't here.

"Oh she's out with your grandfather" my grandmother chuckles, as she saw me looking around.

Moving to peck her cheeks as is my custom, "and where do they go of to?" I asked, moving to sit on the sofa, Justin conveniently left vacant for me.

Shurgging, she stares at me, her eyes guarded, before looking away without responding to my question.

I came here for a reason and I had to know, "he's taking her to meet Clyde?" I asked and the small smile on grandmother's face disappeared, instantly.

"What do you know about him?" Grandmother asked, her eyes fearful.

"I don't know him personally, but I heard he's interested in my wife," I responded, trying to hide my anger.

My grandmother looked away then back at me curiously, "is that why you're here, with me tonight?" Grandmother asked without hiding her hurt expression.

Laughing dryly I leaned forward, "you and I made plans when I came over last night, I only found out about him after I got home and to be honest, I knew about him, but not his name." I responded, hoping to appease my grandmother and still have her co-operation.

Justin stands up with the dinner in his hands, "point me to the kitchen" Justin tells grandmother and she immediately obliged.

"I'm sorry for judging you," grandmother says softly and I reach out taking her frail hands off her lap and into mines.

"Grandmother there's a lot I don't know about grandfather's other family, but" I paused wondering if I should tell her what I suspect.

Sensing my hesitation, grandmother smiles, "it's okay, you can talk to me" grandmother encourages me and I nod, before continuing.

"I don't know where to start, but I have to know, why did you give the Castle to Jamie?" I asked.

Shaking her head, "I'm not sure but it was always my intention to pass it on to you so giving it to your wife as a wedding gift didn't seem inappropriate at that time." Grandmother answers, with confused frown, leaving me just as confused.

"Then why didn't you just give it to me? Why did you have to support grandfather?" I continued to probe lightly.

With a sad smile, "I never wanted that girl for you, because she's innocent like your mother, but wanting her dead was never in my plans for you." Grandmother confessed.

"I was born into this life, I never had a choice." Grandmother continues with a far away look in her eyes.

Without interrupting her, I squeezed her hands, that I still held.

"My marriage to marry your grandfather was always there, so growing up, I learned to love him and he claimed to love me too." Grandmother blinks the moisture out of her eyes. "We got married and everything was fine until I got pregnant which is when your grandfather started cheating on me with my best friend." Grandmother smiles.
