Avengers Academy!

After tending to the wounded student, Steve and the Avengers took them to their school where they trained the younger generation of superheroes. The Avengers Academy.

" How are you feeling?" Bart asked as Laurie rubbed her sore nose, which had been broken by Hope before she escaped.

" I'm alright, though I do wish things weren't so bad. I mean did she really need to break my nose?" Laurie asked making Bart laugh.

" I guess she figured she need the most dangerous one of you off guard." bart replied.

" If that's your way of complimenting me then I have to say it sucks." Laurie replied.

" Sorry, whenever I get stressed out or afraid, I usually try making jokes. Helps me calm down and stay cool ya know. I didn't mean to make fun of you or anything." Bart explained to the girl. " Laurie, are you okay? I mean are you hurt anywhere else?" Bart asked the girl.

" Other than the nose I'm fine. Are you okay? I saw you fighting the Avengers. I was surprised you came with us and Mr. Summers and the other X-men." Laurie said to the boy.

" After seeing you hurt, I just couldn't leave you alone. I had to make sure you were fine." Bart explained to the girl.

" Thank you, Bart." Laurie said to the boy with a smile on her face. " So, do you know how long it will take for us to get to this Avengers Academy?" Laurie asked.

" Actually, it looks like we're here now." Bart said to the girl as he looked out the window and saw the Island straight ahead.

" Alright! Everyone get ready. We're about to land. And remember no fighting . We're doing this for your own good. So, work with us and everything will be just fine." Steve explained to the captive mutants who all looked at the man differently. Most of the students only viewed the man in contempt, but Steve didn't let that deter him from his course of actions. The Quinjet touched down on the Island and Steve walked out with Quicksilver and Hawkeye and greeted Tigra and Hercules.

" Tigra. Hercules. Something happened." Steve said to the two teachers.

" What I've warned of since those idiots took my father in." Quicksilver stated. " We're at war with the X-men." Pietro stated shocking everyone including Laura/X-23, who had been living on the Island.

" That's not the point of this Quicksilver." Steve said to the man.

" Oh? The phoenix force, which consumes entire planets, is returning to Earth. Its likely host is Hope, a young lady the X-Men refuse to let us protect. They intend to welcome this extinction-level threat based on the naive possibility they can control it and create a new golden age for mutants. We fought them. We won. Some escaped. We took others prisoner. What would you call that if not War?" Pietro explained to the man.

" I'd call it a bad situation we don't want to make worse. We gotta find this girl Hope. For her own sake and everyone else's. And we gotta do it before the X-men." Hawkeye explained to Pietro.

" I'm with you. Let's go." Tigra said to Hawkeye.

" Actually, we need you to stay here." Hank said to the woman stopping her from coming.

" Hank, I don't know if this is you trying to protect me or if you're underestimating me. But." Tigra was explaining to the man when Hawkeye cut her off.

" None of the above. When he said we need you here he meant it. When the X-men took off, they left their kids behind. We need a safe place for them. Where they won't get mixed up in this craziness. Sort of child Proctective services for mutants. And the only facility equipped for that kinda thing is right here." Hawkeye explained to the woman

" Sorry to spring this on ya..." Logan said to the woman as he walked off the jet with the students from Utopia right behind him. " But Avengers Academy's about ta get a hell pf a lot more crowded." Logan stated.

" Wolverine, I just want to emphasize that to everyone that this is a school not a prison of war." Hank said to the man.

" No arguments. Me and Cyclops split over his notion that kids should be part of his army. They ain't. And no matter what Quicksilver said, they ain't prisoners of war. I can't put them at my school. Too much history and they're liable to drag my students into this. Things are moving fast. I need them out of what comes next." Logan explained to Hank and the others. he then turned to Tigra and began introducing the staff. " Tigra this is Dr. Kavita Rao and Maddison Jeffries. they're part of our... I mean Utopia's science team. They ain't thrilled with this, but they agreed to chaperone." Logan explained to the woman.

" So, I'm outnumbered." Tigra stated.

" I'm a human if that helps." Dr. Rao told the woman.

" It doesn't." Tigra replied.

" The lion of Olympus shall remain with thee. My rapport with youth is unparalleled. Witness how well my young friend Amadeus Cho has turned out." Hercules exclaimed proudly

" I already have countermeasures here against teleportation and mind control. Beyond that, I oppose dampening anyone's powers." Hank explained to Steve.

" I concur, they've done nothing wrong. We just can't have them interfering in the fight... For their own protection." Steve replied in agreement.

" We can agree on that, at least. But you do realize those are a bunch of willful, rebellious, strong-minded kids, eh?" Jeffries asked rogers.

" I do. Which is why I am asking for your help." Steve turned to his young avengers. " Welcome the kids of Utopia. Show them the advantages of Avengers Academy. But if they attempt to leave, attack, or do anything that would escalate this difficult situation. Stop them." Steve ordered. He then turned and began walking away with the others. " Hank, Iron man want to consult with you on a special project." Steve said to the man as he left the Island.

Hercules nodded and walked with Tigra over to the Mutants from utopia. " Hello! I bid you welcome, young friends! First and foremost, rest assured that you are not prisoners! There will be no torture of any kind!" Hercules explained enthusiastically to the angered mutants.

" Hercules let me... Okay, let's be honest: These are far from ideal conditions. But hopefully we can all make the best of it and find out we have a lot more in common than we thought." Tigra explained to the students. " So... What do you kids know about Avengers Academy?" Tigra asked

" From what X-23 says, Avengers Academy is a place where no matter what kind of odds they have against them, people don't get punished for what they might do. But even though we haven't done anything wrong, we're not allowed to leave. Sound about, right?" Noriko explained to the woman sarcastically before turning to walk away with the rest of the students following.

" Surge..." Tigra called out to the girl as she turned to walk away.

" Just show us where the T.V is." Noriko said to the woman.

" I thought we'd get acquainted with some sports... Games..." Tigra said to the girl.

" Neato-Keen. But we'll pass. In case you hadn't heard there's a war on." Noriko replied before continuing to walk away.

However, before they could all leave, Hercules came forward with a brilliant Idea. " A war we propose to continue. Avengers versus X-Men... On the athletic fields. Unless you don't care to know who's better...." Hercules said to the students getting them all to turn around instantly.

Tigra turned to Hercules in surprise and the man laughed.

" No warrior can resist the Olympics." Hercules said to the woman.

And so began the Olympic games. The X-Men vs versus the young Avengers.

First up was Aerial Sprint. Lightspeed vs Transonic.

" You're going down, blondie. You've never seen speed like mine." Laurie said to her opponent.

" Actually, I went up against a girl who flies really fast not long ago. Karolina dean of the runaways." Lightspeed replied.

" Oh, yeah? How'd that go?" Laurie asked.

" Great. We're dating now." Lightspeed said to Laurie throwing her off her game.

" Um, I'm not. You don't think?" Lauri stumbled over her words as she failed to reply.

" Go!" Jeffries shouted as he fired his starting gun. having been distracted Laurie was quickly left behind by the sly blond.

" It's on!" Laurie shouted as she chased after the girl.

Bart laughed as he watched as he was one of the only ones to actually see the two girls moving away from the Island.

' Wow! She is fast. But not exactly lightspeed is she? Laurie's already caught her. It's neck and neck, but Lightspeed is ahead.' Bart thought as he watched the girls race. A few moments later the two girls came rushing back. ' Lightspeed just barely took that.' Bart thought.

" Oh, come on! You call that winning?" Laurie complained as she and lightspeed touched down on the island again.

" Nope, Sorry Laurie, she got you by a small lead." Bart explained to the girl.

" Damn it!" Laurie cursed.

" Wow! You could see them man?" Speed asked as he approached Bart.

" Yeah, I could." Bart replied.

" You must be pretty fast then. I am too. So, how about it? Want to race?" Speed asked.

" Oh, that's sounds like fun! Bart, you have to race him and get revenge for my loss!!" Laurie yelled.

Bart turned and looked at the girl like she was crazy. " But I don't feel like it right now. I'm still a little ooofed out." Bart explained to the girl.

" But Bart." Laurie whined.

" I know, how about we up the stakes of this race." Megan said to the two boys.

" Oh, yeah? What were you thinking?" Speed asked the girl whimsically.

" How about the winner gets a kiss from Laurieeeee." Megan made sure to draw Laurie's name out and, in her efforts, she managed to get a rise from both Bart and Laurie.

" Megan!" Both Bart and Laurie yelled at the girl.

Speed caught on to what Megan was doing and started eyeing Laurie up and down. " I like blue. So, how about it slowpoke? I want a kiss and I want to win. So, you ready to lose?" Speed Taunted Bart into racing.

Bart looked at speed and his mouth fell open. " Slowpoke? Okay, let's race. Where are we going?" Bart asked the boy as he pulled his mask back up.

" Across the bay to Los Angeles and back." Speed said to the boy.

" Is that it? All right you're on." Bart said to the boy.

" All right you all heard the challenge. In the next bout it's a land Sprint. Impulse vs Speed. And to the winner a kiss from the young transonic!" Hercules declared.

The students cheered for their respective athlete as they got ready to race.

" Bart?" Laurie called out to the boy.

Bart turned and looked at Laurie. " Yeah, Laurie?" bart asked the girl.

" Don't lose okay." Laurie said to the boy as she rubbed her arm.

Bart nodded and stepped up to the line.

" Not going to get into a sprinter's stance?" Speed asked.

" Nope." Bart replied.

" Oh well, that's on you man." Speed said to the boy.

" On your marks. Get set. GO!" Jefferies yelled before shooting his starting gun again.

Bart stood still on the beach as Speed raced off across the beach.

" Uhm, the race has started. Aren't you going to run?" Hercules asked the boy.

Bart stood quiet with a grin on his face and after counting down to one he gathered up his energy and shot off the Island.

* KRakoooom! The sound of the sound barrier shattering echoed across the sea and those on the Island were violently pushed back.

" Whoa! His lightning it changed!" Noriko yelled as they watched the lighter shade of red lightning disappear into the distance.

As Bart ran, he felt the wind brushing against his face and a rush of energy flowed through his body. It wasn't long after he started that he caught up to Speed.

" How?" Speed asked in disbelief as Bart easily passed him.

Bart turned around running backwards and grinned at Speed. He held up two fingers and gestured peace at the boy before turning back and running as fast as he could.

Speed ran in disbelief as he watched the boy vanished.

' Hahaha! This is so fun.' Bart thought to himself as he ran. He hit the Los Angeles line and turned around and ran back. Bart passed Speed just as he reached the coast of Los Angeles and waved goodbye at the boy. Bart made his way back to the Academy, effortlessly crushing Speed in their race.

" Whoa! And the winner is Impulse!" Hercules declared.

The mutants all cheered as their representative evened up the score. A few seconds later Speed returned to Island as well, bent over and grasping for air.

" Damn, you're... Fast." Speed said to the boy.

" I know." Bart replied.

Hercules stepped forward once more and spoke. " Now, I do believe our contest had a reward for the winner. transonic?" Herc stated.

Laurie walked up to Bart and smiled slightly.

Bart looked at the girl and the realization dawned on him. And he immediately turned beat red in the face.

" Uhm, hey Laurie." bart said to the girl nervously.

" Hey, Bart. Uhm, good job on winning. I knew you would." Laurie said to the boy.

Bart smiled and relaxed as Laurie approached him.

Laurie walked up to Bart until they were both inches apart. She looked up at the boy and her face turned purple. She slowly reached up to the boy's face and leaned towards him and kissed him right on his face. And then quickly back down.

Bart's face turned red. he turned his face away from the girl in an attempt to hide his embarrassment.

Something Laurie also did.

The others sat and watched as in disbelief over two eighteen-year old's acting like middle schoolers over a kiss.

The next event came up and it was Loa vs Finesse. They were set to have a surfing match. But before they could Loa helped one of the other Academy students surf, as his powers caused him to sink.

" As far as I'm concerned, the X-men win. Who's up for a cookout on the beach?" Hazmat asked.

" Are you people all insane?!" Gabriel suddenly exploded. " Hope's missing, possessed by some... I don't even know what it is! If Wolverine finds her, he's going to kill her! The Avengers just invaded our home and took us prisoner! And you expect us to play beach blanket bingo with their sidekicks?" Gabirel asked his fellow mutants in anger.

" Velocidad's right. And you if you think we're being harsh, think about what they'll do to you guys if they ever decide you're too dangerous to make your own decisions. You'll end up in protective custody, too, for your own good, of course." Noriko explained to the Academy students. And once again the mutants returned to their previous bad mood and began to walk away. But before she left Noriko took one more jab at Laura. " Looks to me like they've got you on a pretty tight leash already." Noriko said to the girl as they walked away.

" So, did you, do it?" Noriko asked Bart as they walked.

" Of course, I did. Shaw will be free anytime now." Bart replied before the group walked into the building.

A few hours later during the night, the plan to escape began.

" All right, you guys ready?" Noriko asked.

" Yeah, let's get the hell out of dodge." Bart said to the woman.

" What about, Shaw?" Laurie asked.

" He's out. He should be free now. Hopefully he'll be there to meet us at the rendezvous point." Bart replied to Laurie as the group of mutants walked towards the Academy's beaches. However, before they could leave, they were confronted by the students of Avengers Academy.

" Fight!" Teon yelled.

" What part of confined to campus don't you understand?" Reptil asked the mutants.

" The part where you think, we give a damn. We're not going to let you take our freedom away. Whether it's for our own good or not. It's still our choice." Bart said to the man.

" Whoa! Hey, not cool. I thought we were simpatico." Ken said to the two groups.

" No, most of us can actually tell when we're being discriminated against." Gabriel stated.

" Call Tigra!" Reptil yelled to white tiger.

" I'm trying! The coms are down!" Eva replied.

" I'm afraid she and the others are a little preoccupied with our trump card right now." Bart said to the group alluding to the freed Sebastian Shaw.

" This is not a fight you want. You're outnumbered." Eva said to the mutants.

" Actually. We're with them." The mutants from Avengers Academy declared as they joined their brothers and sisters.

The two groups stood ready to face each other. Every member of both sides waiting for the fight to start... But one.

" Enough of this madness. I am Atlantean. I care nothing for your surface disputes. Great change is coming. Salvation or destruction. I must stand with my people." Crosta explained to the two sides before jumping towards the water.

" Wait!" Reptil yelled trying to stop the boy. But it was too late Crosta made the jump and out from the water a giant metal hand caught him.

" Alert. Mutant exceeding authorized boundaries. Please do not leave school grounds." The Avengers sentinel said to the boy it caught.

The mutants all looked at the giant robot and their anger boiled over.

" A sentinel? You have a sentinel!?" Noriko asked in anger.

The mutants attacked the sentinel without a second thought, forcing the Academy students to fight them as well.

" Is this how you guys treat your guests? Using a machine that has haunted mutants for history to keep us imprisoned?" Bart asked as he ran around punching different members of the academy.

" No! We didn't know it was still here!" Speed yelled as he tried catching up to Bart.

Bart turned around and knocked Speed off of his feet. he then ran and slammed the boy up against a nearby wall. " But you still have it." Bart said to the boy.

" The machine was built to detect mutants." Reptil stated.

" NO! It was built to kill mutants!" Sooraya, usually the calmest of the group, yelled in anger and frustration as she assaulted the giant machine with sand.

Bart dropped Speed and ran towards the machine, running up its leg towards the pilot's seat.

Juston, the pilot of the sentinel panicked and tried fighting off the mutants as best he could. But suddenly felt Bart's hand on his shoulder.

" Let's take a ride." Bart said to the boy. He grabbed Juston and phased him and himself right out of the pilot seat, causing the sentinel to shut down from the lack of a pilot.

" No! Don't hurt him he's a good sentinel. We play basketball." Wiz kid said to the mutants who continued attacking the robot.

" Will everyone please make up their mind on which side their on!" Laurie yelled.

" I have!" Laura yelled. " There are sound reasons behind the avengers bringing you here. Many of you might make stupid choices, if left on your own. But to deny you those choices because you are young that is not right." Laura explained to the two sides.

" You're turning against us? We accepted you! From what I hear, they never did!" Hazmat yelled at Laura.

" That is irrelevant. You did Accept me. You helped me reach my decision. I understand why the avengers brought them here. there are many ways to justify something that is wrong. But they do not change the fact that it is wrong. There are few things more precious you can take from someone than their free will." Laura explained to the Academy students in the defense of the mutants.

" I couldn't agree more." Shaw stated as he approached Laura from behind. " Hello, children. How convenient to find you all here? Academy students. I have no quarrel with you. If you don't interfere with what is about to happen, we can keep it that way." Shaw said to the students.

" Sebastian Shaw? But you were locked up... Under guard." Reptil stated.

" He was, when me and Speed were racing, I got the idea to slip away from the race for just a few moments and phased something into Shaw's cell, to help him build up enough energy to break out." Bart explained to the boy.

" But then where are our teachers?" Reptil asked.

" Did you forget what I told you earlier about Tigra? I said she was busy dealing with our trump card. Well, here he is." Bart explained to the boy.

" Damn it!" Reptil cursed.

" Easy. This isn't your fight, son. Walk away." Shaw said to the boy.

" Newsflash! Captain chest hair is bad news. AVENGERS ACADEMY ASSEMBLE!" Hazmat yelled as she blasted Shaw in his face with her radioactive energy.

" Leave him alone!" Laurie yelled.

" Transonic, are oyu nuts? He's trying to ugh!" Hazmat was explaining but was cut off as Laurie punched her in the face.

" JENNY!" Ken yelled in anger. Ken ran up and punched Laurie in her face sparking the fight back to life once again.

" You really shouldn't have done that pal." Bart said to the man as he pushed him into the ocean with force.

" FIGHT! mate?" Teon asked White tiger.

" Figth, Primal. Definitely fight." Eva said to the boy as she swiped at him with her claws.

" You think you can overload me? Surge?" Noriko asked as she trade electricity with Striker.

" Don't know, but your stupid looking gloves are starting to smoke, so whatever they do, they won't do it much longer." Striker replied.

Hazmat got back to her feet and looked at the mutants in disbelief. " You fools, he's going to kill you!" hazmat yelled to the students.

" No, he's not you idiot. That's what we're trying to tell you. Why else would we fight to defend him?" Bart asked the girl.

" My instincts tell me he is right! Sophie, can you read his mind?" Laura asked the cuckoo.

" Afraid not. Miss frost placed mental barriers in his mind. You'll just have to beat him senseless just to be safe." Sophie replied.

Laura grunted and turned to finesse. " Finesse, you have observed Shaw. Do you believe he is here to kill our guests?" Laura asked the girl.

" No. His body language, tactics, and travel patterns suggest he is here to help them escape." Finesse explained to Laura.

" i already told you that." Bart stated in annoyance as he tossed Speed to the side for the third time.

" Kill them? Was I really the kind of man who'd hurt children?" Shaw asked in disbelief.

" Too bad, jailbreaks are also frowned upon." Striker stated.

" Striker's right!" Tigra yelled as she and the other teachers finally got back to their feet. " Maybe we misjudged you Shaw. but we still can't let you leave. Any of you." Tigra explained to the mutants.

" And i cannot let you stop them." Laura said to the woman as she stood between her and the mutants.

" Laura? I realize you are a mutant, but this is a complicated situation. They're here for their own protection. Wolverine himself brought them." Tigra explained to the girl

" I am familiar with the arguments. they change nothing. They are young, yes. But they have risked their lives fighting sentinels, purifiers... Any threat that arose. To give mutant kind a future. That future has arrived. To deny them the chance to participate in it simply because they are young... It is wrong and I will not allow it." Laura exclaimed.

" We feel equally strong that the avengers/X-men conflict is no place for minors." Tigra stated.

" It's about a minor. Hope, the girl everyone is chasing, is our age. Furthermore, it is illogical to state that the students are quipped to make life or death decisions in battle, but not to choose responsibly now." Finesse explained. " I stand with X-23. With Laura." Finesse stated proudly.

" Yeah, I gotta tell ya. They seem like good people to me. I don't wanna be part of keeping them somewhere they don't wanna be." Ken said to the woman as he crawled out of the ocean.

" I think they're obnoxious. But the truth is, there's only one reason you guys want them out of this war. Because you're embarrassed about the whole stupid thing." Hazmat stated.

" Hmmm, in truth, Tigra. Their words do touch my heart." Hercules said to the woman after hearing all of student's speeches.

" Don't you start. If we show cracks we're doomed." Tigra said to Hercules. " Rao, Jeffries. I assume you two are with Hercules?" Tigra asked the two chaperones from Utopia.

" Well, frankly, the girls are right. These kids have been to war. I think they've earned the right to be a part of something this big." Jeffries replied.

" Or not, if that's what they want. Honestly? I'd like to just get back to my lab." Rao said to the woman.

"HH." Tigra grunted and rubbed the side of her head in annoyance. " All right, listen up. It's my job to make sure you stay here. And don't think you can slip away either. There are cameras all over the grounds." Tigra said to the students. " Do you understand me? Cameras everywhere. So you're not leaving. Not without a fight." Tigra explained to the students who were confused about the woman's words.

' Ohhhhhhh, I get what's she saying now.' Bart thought to himself as he realized Tigra was going to throw the fight. " Don't worry I promise it'll be quick and painless." Bart said to the woman. tigra growled and Bart ran around and punched all of the students except for Finesse, Ken and Hazmat, "Knocking them out."

" All right. We win." Bart stated as he looked at the downed teachers and students. " So, what now? I didn't think this far ahead." Bart asked

" Now you do what you want. Chart your own course. I've come to realize that's a precious and rare opportunity. I've paid my debt to you for giving me a second chance. I'd like to help Hope, but it seems my presence inly causes further problems. So, I'll make the most of the opportunity she's given men. If you see her tell her I hope that's enough." Shaw said to the students. He then turned to leave.

" Wait..." Tigra said as she grabbed Shaw's foot. " The man who founded this school believed in giving people a second a third even a fourth chance. With me you only get one. Make me regret it, and I'll come after you." Tigra explained to Shaw.

" Understood. You don't seem like the sort of person who makes a promise she won't keep. I don't want that either. So, I will simply say I understand the price of failure. I understand it quite well." Shaw said to the woman before diving into the sea.

" What about you, Laurie? What do you want to do?" Bart asked the girl as he watched Shaw swim away.

" I want to find, Hope. With all that's going on, I'm not sure anyone's bothered to ask her what she wants. And I owe her for somethings that went on between us." Laurie replied.

" Sounds good to me." Gabriel stated.

" Flight!" Teon yelled

" Looks like we know where we're going. What about you Bart?" Laurie asked the boy.

" Wherever you are is where I'll be. By your side." Bart replied to the girl making her smile. " But before I go there's one more thing I want to do." Bart said to the woman he then ran off and found the girl who had helped them in the first place Laura Kinney. " Hey, Laura right. here take this." Bart said to the girl as he handed her a slip with his number on it and an emergency contact earpiece the X-men use in emergency situations. " You helped us, for that you have my thanks. We're friends now so if you ever need help just give me a call I'll be there in flash!" Bart explained to the girl before running back to the mutants. Leaving behind a stunned and speechless Laura.

" All right! I'm ready everyone. Let's go!" Bart yelled.

" SIHAL NOVARUM CHINOTH!" Megan chanted and with a flash of light the mutant students were all gone.
