Chapter 7: Dinner & Disaster

For some reason, I just dont have much to say. I bet everyone is like, "THANK YOU! I was waiting to you to shut up since chapter one!" Either way...

Enjoy!

P.S. I tried to find a picture of the weasley family with all the weasleys in one frame...but i failed. There just weren't any :(

And I just want to point out that I completely disagree with this quote. I'd die from happiness if I could have dinner with my characters :)

"If I were invited to a dinner party with my characters, I wouldn't show up"

---Dr. Seuss

For the first time, in what was most likely the history of Weasley Dinner, the Burrow was subdued.  Almost everyone had arrived already.  They were waiting for Harry, Ginny, Teddy, Ron andAstoria.

Fleur, Bill’s wife, was discussing what she was planning to wear to Ginny’s wedding with Penelope, Percy’s wife.  Angelina, Fred’s girlfriend, and Alicia, George’s girlfriend, were sitting by the fireplace arguing with Percy on which teams will make it to the final round of Quidditch World Cup this year.  Bill, Fred, and George were huddled in a corner of the living room betting on how long it would take until someone went off on Ron for what he did to Hermione. Charlie and Mr. Weasley were discussing a new breed of dragons that had recently been discovered.  Victorie, Bill and Fleur’s four year old daughter, was sitting by her mum waiting for Teddy to arrive.

Just as Mrs. Weasley finished setting the table, the bell rang.

“Someone open the door,” she called out.  “It must be either Harry or Ron.”

“I don’t see why we can’t just lock the traitor and his girlfriend out,” muttered Fred as he went to open the door.

“We are not late, are we?” asked Harry, walking in holding Teddy and Ginny’s hands.

“No dears.  Not at all,” beamed Mrs. Weasley.

“A certain someone couldn’t decide on what to wear to impress a certain someone else.  So it took us a while,” explained Ginny, inclining her head towards the five year old boy who was deep in conversation with the almost five year old girl.

“We are going to have to keep an eye on those two when they grow up, won’t we Fred?” asked George.

“Absolutely, George,” replied Fred with a wide grin.

“This morning Teddy told me that he will grow up and marry Victorie,” Ginny informed everyone.

“Awww, that is so adorable!” cooed Penelope.

“So, is he here yet?” Harry asked the twins, pulling them aside.

“He?  Oh you mean the traitor!” exclaimed George.

“No. He didn’t grace us with his sorry presence yet.  George and I made a bet you see–,”started Fred.

“On whether or not he is brave enough to come,” added George.

“Would you care to bet?” asked Fred.

“Fred and George Weasley!  Stop that right now, or your mother will hear about it!” exclaimed Mr. Weasley.

“Hear about what?” asked Mrs. Weasley walking in the living room.

“Nothing, dear,” Mr. Weasley said hurriedly.  “But Charlie and I were talking about a fascinating species of Dragons that have recently been discovered.”

“Anyways,” George said, moving to a secluded corner of the room, away from Mr. and Mrs. Weasley.  “Charlie and Percy, being the optimists they are, are betting that he will show up. Bill, Fred, and I are betting that he won’t.”

“Even if he does show up, we have a nice little surprise waiting for him.  Don’t we George?” asked Fred with a mischievous smile.

“Absolutely, Fred. What better way to have a family reunion than with a surprise,” replied George mirroring the look on his twin’s face.

“How long do you imagine it will take until it happens, George?” asked Fred.

“If should happen an hour or two after dinner if my calculation are correct,” replied George.

“What—Actually, I won’t even bother asking,” Harry said with a smile. “But ten galleons that he will show up.”

Just as Harry finished, the doorbell rang again and this time a red-head walked in with a blonde in tow. Immediately, awkwardness replaced the levity that was apparent only moments prior to their entrance.  For the first time, in history, the Burrow was filled with silence.

“Um. Hello everyone,” Ron said awkwardly. “This is my girlfriend, Astoria Greengrass.”

“Hello dears,” said Mrs. Weasley with a smile.  “Now that everyone is here and dinner is ready, lets all sit down.”

“This is sure to be interesting,” Harry muttered to Ginny who was staring intently atAstoriawith a hard look in her eyes.

As she passed byAstoria, she said, “So you as beautiful as the magazines say you are” before going to sit at her usual spot. No one knew what to make of this comment, not even Harry.

Not too sure whether it was an insult or a compliment,Astoriaflashed her pearly whites and said, “Thank You.” Just as she was about to take a seat next to Ron, Teddy and Victorie simultaneously screamed out, “That’s Aunt Mione’s seat!” much to her embarrassment.  As she blushed beet red, Harry and Bill tried to tell the kids why Aunt Mione was not coming with half concealed grins on their faces.

After the seating arrangement was sorted out, the much anticipated dinner began.

After what could possibly have been the most awkward dinner that anyone had ever attended was over, everyone drifted to the living room to socialize.

Victorie and Teddy were running around trying to catch a gnome that had snuck into the house.Astoriawas telling Fleur, Angelina, and Mrs. Weasley about one of her recent photoshoots. Fleur and Angelina looked like they were about to fall asleep and Mrs. Weasley’s smile began to sport a strain after the second hour.  Ron was looking sheepish and talking to Mr. Weasley on one corner of the room.  Penelope and Ginny were watching Percy, who was trying to demand the twins to pay up, with amusement.  Bill and Harry were talking about the latest news at the Ministry when Charlie, who was reading the newspaper, called out.
