IX. Onwards

On that particular afternoon, I took a swift glance through the weathered books, ancient tomes, and mystical scriptures in the library, aiming to reassure myself with any knowledge regarding arcane magic defenses.

As a precautionary measure, I even collected a few pieces of paper containing meticulously inscribed runic symbols, just in case I ever needed, I diligently committed at least fifty fundamental incantations and spells to memory. However, as I reflect on my actions, I am beginning to realize that I may have become excessively prepared.

As the sun began to set, Celesty gathered all of us in the main hall. I made my way back to my room and took a moment to dress In a fresh outfit.

Looking in the mirror, I couldn't help but notice how much I had changed since I arrived in this world just a few months ago. I had learned so many new things and had become accustomed to my surroundings.

Now, the time had come to see the results of my efforts. As I walked towards the main hall, I was greeted by the sight of all maids standing by, busy with preparations for our departure.

Celesty, still in the process of getting ready, meticulously drew a teleportation circle on the stone floor. In the middle of it, Kev turned around, saw me approaching, and gave a friendly wave.

"Get yourself ready, this teleportation will take you two down at the cellar," Celesty said, as I walk up to them.

"Is everything ready on your side?" Kev asked me.

"Yeah," I replied "How long will you arrive at the ball Celesty? Should we place ourselves already with the king right after our recon or should we just wait for you." I ask Celesty as she prepares to cast the teleportation spell.

"Kev, will notice the strength of our familiarity link once I get close to the venue. Most likely I won't be seen before a few guests have arrived. As soon, as Kev notices that I'm near, place yourselves along with the king's soldiers." Celesty said.

The magic circle in the room starts to emit a radiant blue glow, illuminating the surroundings. As the light shines through, scpecks of dust become visible, swirling in the air.

A gentle breeze emanates from the ink inscription on the stone floor, heightening the mystical ambience of the space. Additionally, an intricate magic circle materializes on Celesty's arms.

Meanwhile, Kev employs a spell to dissolve his protective shield, utilizing a technique that conceals objects from view.

"Remember, keep yourselves at distance and blend in with the crowd." Celesty said as she begins to activate the teleportation spell.

A series of magical circles materialized above us, with various letters seemingly crafted from ink hovering in the air.

Gradually, these letters transformed into dazzling particles, emitting a radiant glow. With each passing second, the intensity of the light increased, until it enveloped us entirely in a brilliant, pure white glow. Just before the brightness became overwhelming, I took a final glance back at Celesty, her eyes still empty and devoid of expression.

In a sudden, the entire scenery underwent a dramatic transformation.

It shifted abruptly from a bright and open space to a dimly lit, enclosed room, shrouded in darkness. This room was filled with numerous barrels generously stocked with ale and wine.

A torch, securely fixed to a sturdy pillar built with stone bricks, illuminated our path towards the entrance of the cellar.

As the ink particles in the air gradually dissipated, it resembled the dispersal of a bursting bubble, leaving behind a mesmerizing magical circle etched intricately onto the surface of the stone floor.

Acting swiftly, I reached out to retrieve the torch from its designated spot, stealing a quick glance backward at my companion, Kev, who reciprocated with a nod of agreement.

Collectively, we then proceeded to advance further into the castle, undertaking a thorough reconnaissance of its entire expanse.

As I reached out to open the cellar door, we were pleasantly surprised by the unexpected arrival of a familiar acquaintance. Standing before us was a sophisticated cat with a tall stature, adorned with long, pristine white whiskers and an air of distinction.

"Nyah." The catface said with a low tone of voice, unfortunately I have no knowledge of such language.

"Nyah, Nyah, nyah… nyah." He spoke even more cat language and purred.

"I don't understand what you're saying," I said. I suddenly looked at Kev on my right, thinking he may understand what he's saying.

"What? I may have a weird hobby, but that doesn't mean I speak cat language!" Kev announced himself.

The cat face unexpectedly reach out and gently grabbed hold of my right hand, revealing a silver ring adorned with intricate runic symbols.

"Hey, that ring, I could sense it's filled with overflowing energy and the metal is quite high-grade," Kev said as he looked at it endearingly.

According to the arcane equipment encyclopedia's accessories section, this ring, known as an ignition ring, enhances a person's mana capacity for a specific duration of time making it a valuable asset for beginners like myself. While the materials required for this ring are rare to come by, the crafting process itself is relatively straightforward and uncomplicated.

"Nya, nya, nya… Nya!" The cat face said and left.

Despite not comprehending the meaning behind its utterances, both Kev and I chose to feign understanding. Since the cat face had been present at the previous meeting, I felt a sense of reliance on its judgment regarding the gift.

During the few hours leading up to the ball, there was nothing out of the ordinary. Kev and I split up to search different floors of the building.

We had agreed to meet on the middle floor once we were done, ensuring that neither of us would draw suspicion by lingering alone. However, Kev was unusually late, causing me to grow anxious.

Luckily, there weren't many people on the middle floor at that time, so I decided to wait a little longer for him to arrive. As I observed Kev, I noticed he seemed preoccupied and bothered by something, possibly still concerned about the handwriting.

I reminded myself to stay focused on our main objective. Eventually, he arrived just in time before the King's appearance to the audience.
