Marissa was at a loss for words as she struggled to express herself. Blake comforted her with another embrace, promising to investigate Billy and uncover the person behind him. "I trust you," he reassured her, "never doubt that." Marissa was still too stunned to respond.
"Blake..." she murmured, her hands clenching her dress. Blake hummed softly as he rubbed her back.
"I swear, you're the only man who's ever seen that mole," Marissa's voice quavered.
"I believe you," Blake said, pulling back to gaze into her eyes. "Someone is trying to destroy the trust between us. Don't worry, I know you better than they ever will," he said, stroking her cheek with his thumb.
"But Blake," Marissa looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears. She felt as though she had become more vulnerable lately, her tears coming more easily. "Why is it so hard for me to find happiness?"
