The bodies

Chandler froze as he stepped on something that felt like a dead antelope, he looked down slowly and it was not an antelope but something scarier - he was standing on a dead body and there was two more dead body around him, the bodies were mutilated beyond recognition he stood there as he wondered if he ever thought that his day would go like this when he opened his eyes this morning...

Chandler knew that there was no way his mother would stop banging on his door until he opens the door or at least he tells her that he was awake already. It's Saturday morning and he already knows why she has been at his door knocking like ten minutes ago non-stop, he was supposed to go to work today with his father. He just needed a few more hours to finish his sleep, but he cannot have that now with the loud banging on the door, so he just has to let her know that he is up.

"Alright, Mom I'm coming!!" He yelled as he kicked the Duvet away from his body he grunts and stood up.

He could hear his mother's footsteps fading away as she went down the stairs, he stood up and he was just wearing his pants with his chest bare. He walked to the little mirror he hung on the left side of his wall, he looked at it as he yawned and the same time stared at his physique. He smiled because he could see that his Abs were showing already and it was the effect of the few weeks he has been cutting trees with an axe and chainsaw with his father in the woods. They just moved to Spring Haven a few weeks ago, his parents said it was because of the contract his father got in this town but he knew that was not just it because his father has had work in many towns and they did not have to move those times. He hated this town because it was boring and mundane, he preferred it back then in New York City.

"Chandler!" He could hear his mother yell his name even though she was downstairs, he hurried down to meet her.

"Good morning." He greeted his mother as he walked past her to the dining room where his dad was sitting already with breakfast on the table, he sat down and greeted his father too, and nods because he couldn't talk with the food in his mouth.

"You didn't go to bed early last night right?" Mr. Beckham, Chandler's dad asked after he swallowed the food that was in his mouth, Chandler's first insist was to lie about going to bed late last night but he remembered that he had nothing to lose, it's not like he still goes to school anyway.

"Yeah, I'm still finding it hard to cope with the new environment." He still lied. The truth was that he was up last night playing an online video game with his friends from new york even after he was told by his parents to cut ties with anyone from new york, he saw no reason why he should do that.

"We've been here for more than three weeks son and we will stay longer so you should start getting used to it." Mr. Beckham replied as he wiped his mouth and stood up because he was done eating.

Chandler had nothing to say to him, he was not even hungry so he just stared and poked at the Omelette with toast and mushrooms which was in front of him. He had to eat something because he knows that he would need the energy in the next few hours when he would be in the woods with his father helping him to chop down trees, he does most of the work these days.

He was done with his breakfast a few minutes later and his father had been walking to and fro, getting everything they needed before they drove off. Chandler went to his room upstairs to get his phone, that's the one thing he knew that he could not forget for sure even though he was not expecting a call from anyone but at least he could check his social media apps when he has any free time. The moment he picked up his phone he could hear his father honking his horn, which could only mean that it was time for them to start moving. He rushed down and kissed his mother goodbye as he walked past her, he walked outside and took a peak at his father who was already in the driver's seat of his truck and he was not looking happy, Chandler hopped inside the truck and sat on the passenger seat as his father sighed and reversed the truck so they could drive away but he almost hit a young lady who was walking past their compound. She stepped away as she waited for their truck to pass and that was when her eyes met with Chandler's.

"Sorry." Chandler could swear that he had no idea how he even said that but he felt like he needed to tell her something so it won't look weird that they were just staring at each other.

The young lady did not say anything back but she smiled at him and he smiled back, he had to because he already thought that she was very pretty but her smile proved that she could be pretty. Her smile was beautiful and at that moment it was like everything was happening slowly as he stared at her until their truck passed her.

"See, you are already making friends."

"Huh?" Chandler was so lost in the moment that he did not get what his father said.

"you have been smiling since you saw her, you like her." Mr. Beckham said as he chuckled and continue driving.

"Who? Hell no! I was just smiling because I remembered the good times I used to have back then in New York." Chandler was not ready to let his father think that he was starting to like anything about this town but if he was really honest with himself then he knew that he liked the girl he just saw and at that moment he wanted to jump out from the vehicle and ask her what was her name at least.

Chandler had no idea how long he was already thinking about this girl until they drove to their cabin in the woods he knew it was a long drive from their house to the cabin so that gave him an idea of how long he was thinking about this girl that he barely knows. He came down from the truck and his father came down too as he walked inside their cabin but Chandler stayed behind to bring down their tools at the back of the truck.

The moment Chandler was done with bringing down all they needed from the back of the truck, his father came out and told him to take the chainsaw to the spot inside the woods where they were working and set everything up so that he would be behind him. Chandler picked the chainsaw up and took the axe with him too so his father would have fewer things to carry with him. He was regretting picking the axe up because the chainsaw alone was heavy enough to carry for this long walk he was almost there but everything changed when he stepped on one of the dead bodies.

Chandler just stood there like his brain stopped working at that moment, he felt like he was standing on top of a land mine. He has never been this close to a dead body and this was no ordinary dead body but it was looking like a bear or mountain lion devoured them. His father assured him that there was no dangerous animal out in the woods but this looked like it was not true.

"What's wrong?" Mr. Beckham asked as he walked to where Chandler was standing.

Chandler tried to talk but he couldn't until his father was close enough to see the bodies, he was shocked but not as shocked as Chandler was. Mr. Beckham picked up his phone and called the Sherrif to report the bodies.
