"I saw your eyes glow red and you had claws that came out of your hand, how is that possible Dad?" Chandler asked his father as they came down from his truck and was heading to the door.
Chandler was pestering his father with lots of questions as they drove from the pub down to their house, Mr. Beckham was not even in the mood to answer his question because he was still angry that Chandler lied to them about where he was going tonight.
Mr. Beckham rang the doorbell and his wife opened the door looking all worried as she peered to see Chandler behind her husband.
"What was he doing at the pub, was he drinking?" Tracy had her share of questions too.
"I wish." Mr. Beckham muttered as he walked in and sat on the sofa leaving his wife standing confused wondering what Chandler was doing that makes her husband wish he was drinking, what could he have done that would be worse than getting drunk in a pub and lying about it?
"What was he doing over there?" Tracy asked as she closed the door the moment Chandler walked in.
"Tell your mother what you were doing," Mr. Beckham said as he looked at Chandler who was not feeling any remorse for what he did tonight, he was just eager to know exactly what happened.
"I was with some new friends that I made"
"Doing what exactly?" Mr. Beckham inquired as he waited to hear from Chandler what he thought he was doing in that basement.
"Look, Dad, these guys are just like me" Chandler replied as he looked at his mother who seems to be more interested now.
"What do you mean by they're just like you?" Tracy asked as she looked at her son, waiting impatiently for an answer.
"They could talk to dogs just like me and they could even do more like bring out claws from their fingers," Chandler responded excitedly.
Tracy looked at her husband who looked at her too, she already knows what her son means and she was scared that the past they have been trying to protect their son from is just resurfacing.
"Why do I have this feeling that you two know more about all these than I do?" Chandler asked as he looked at the reactions on his parent's faces and he could tell that they were hiding something.
"Did they look familiar?" Tracy asked her husband as she ignored Chandler.
"No, they were very young around his age but they knew what they were doing. They almost crack his seal if I did not intervene."
"Crack my seal? What's going on here someone should talk to me!" Chandler could not take it any longer.
Tracy and her husband stared at each other and they knew that they could not keep everything a secret anymore, if there would be a time to tell their son everything then it would be now so he could know when he is in danger and be able to tell his friends from his foes.
"Chandler, sit down," Tracy said as she sat down and gestured at the other space on the twin sofa that she sat for Chandler to sit near her.
Chandler heaved a sigh of relief as he sat down and looked at his parents who were looking at him like he was forcing them to tell them something that they should not be talking about but he had to know because today has been lots of crazy.
"You're a werewolf," Tracy stated.
There was brief tranquility and noticeable silence for a few seconds, nobody was talking but they just exchanged glances. At first, Chandler was waiting to hear his parents laugh and tell him that they were just kidding, but thinking about all that happened tonight, it would be insane to say that he is the werewolf he has only seen in movies and heard in stories.
Though Chandler has seen things tonight that are not normal, he believes that the answer to all that could not be that werewolves exist and he is one of them so he chuckled as he stared at his parents waiting for them to tell him that they were kidding but they did not even blink.
"I'm a werewolf?" Chandler asked doubtfully with a chuckle.
"Your seal is not cracked yet but yeah, you're a werewolf," Tracy responded, Chandler was still finding it amusing and hard to believe.
"So you guys are werewolves too?" Chandler asked as he looked at his parents.
"No, just your dad," Tracy replied as she pointed at Mr. Beckham who was just mute since his wife told their son that he was a werewolf.
"So what are you, a vampire?" Chandler asked his mother.
"No, I'm a human. Vampires are just fairytales." Tracy stated.
"And Werewolves are not?!"
Tracy looked at her husband to know if he could help her out here but he was not saying anything so she moved closer to Chandler and held his hands firmly as she looked into his eyes.
"I know all these would be confusing and hard to believe but we had reasons why we did not tell you about this all these while, we wanted you safe and far away from the werewolf world."
Chandler was quiet, he was starting to believe that it might be true after all, he sighed as he looked at his parents and they could tell that the was scared and confused at the same time.
"So at full moon, why don't I crave blood?" Chandler asked, he was still trying to prove that they were wrong.
"I think for you to understand all these, you must forget anything you think you know about werewolves from stories and movies." Mr. Beckham finally spoke as Chandler turned to look at him.
"So I don't have super hearing and smell too?" Chandler asked, he was starting to accept it gradually.
"Well, not now until your seal is broken and it's not as strong as the movies or story make it to be. Just a little bit stronger than that of dogs." Mr. Beckham explained.
"What is this seal that you keep talking about it?" Chandler finally asked.
"Every werewolf that is born has his powers shut off until he breaks the seal that holds it then he could have access to his wolf powers. "
"That all sound made up," Chandler replied as he looked at his mother to tell him that his father was joking about what he just said.
"Well, it's not. That was what your friends were trying to do tonight."
"So if I bite someone now, the person is not a werewolf until he breaks his seal?" Chandler asked he has a lot of questions to ask but he does not know where to start so he just asks the ones that pop out from his head.
"Turning someone into a werewolf by bite is all just in the movies and stories. You're either born a werewolf or not." Mr. Beckham stated.
"So I can't turn someone into a werewolf if I bite the person?"
"Yeah, but you can give the person rabies if he doesn't get it treated." Mr. Beckham replied.
"I still have fast healing when I get my seal broken right?"
"Yeah but not as fast as in the movies or stories, still faster than normal humans though."
"Is there anything that we have that is like it is in the movies or stories?"
"I think the movies and stories exaggerate our power because they're written by those that don't understand our powers." Mr. Beckham said as he looked at his wife who have been mute for a while just watching him explain all these to Chandler.
"Maybe we should write the true story then," Chandler muttered but his father shunned him.
"No! As a werewolf, we stay hidden in the shadows, we don't let normal humans know of our existence."
Chandler was quiet, he could not understand why they can't tell people that werewolves are real but then he remembers some of the movies that he has watched where people learn that werewolves are real and then hunts them and kills them or the scientists capture them for some weird experiments.
"Chandler we're sorry that we did not tell you all these but now that you know, we can tell you anything you want to know. We don't want you seeing those of your friends again, we can't trust them." Tracy said gently as Chandler looked at her confused.
"What do you mean? If it's not for them, you wouldn't have told me all this!"
"Yeah, we wanted to tell you when the time is right."
"When do you think that time is? Never?"
"Look son, your mother is right. We can't trust them, remember that one of them attacked me and you so we don't know who sent them or why they are here so it's good to just avoid them."
"Well I can't just judge them like that, we have to give them every benefit of the doubt. I will meet them and ask them why they did all that first."
"No! You're never going to see them again, do you understand?" Mr. Beckham's voice thundered in the living room, he was furious and that kind of tune always scares Chandler before but for some reason, he was not scared of that tone again.
Chandler got up and walked out from them and went upstairs as Mr. Beckham watched him with anger, Tracy looked at her husband and calmed him down.
"Give him some time darling."
"He should understand that all this is for his safety!"
"Yeah, but he's just a kid."
Mr. Beckham exhaled sharply as he sank into the sofa he was sitting on, his wife smiled as she looked at him looking all angry and tired.
"What about the girl, Alice?" Mr. Beckham asked.
"She got tired of waiting and went home."
"I don't blame the young lady." Mr. Beckham sighed.
