WHITE....

The doors opened up and Madeline's eyes squinted as she walked towards the altar.

There were people, too many people she didn't know all lined up as they watched her with indifferent eyes.

Madeline was used to it, she actually liked it, that their eyes didn't talk too less or too much, just perfect for the occasion.

She tried her best not to think about it but she couldn't, " Who stands at the altar this time, who's been forced to stand and wait for me?"

Her eyes were pinned to the floor, watching her dress sway as she was dropped off at the altar,

she saw a pair of white shoes before her, it was finally time; she mustered every ounce of bravery left in her to look up and when she did, her eyes widened in shock.

Madeline never thought she'd see him again, not after so long of being apart; but what was he doing here? Why didn't he run away when he had a chance?

He could've disappeared without a trace and never showed his face Infront of her again.

Yet he stood before her with his oppressing gaze as Madeline sighed in disbelief,

" Peter?...what...what are you do-"

" We have gathered here to celebrate the marriage of Madeline Foxenton and Peter Thompson...."

The priest interrupted, causing silence in the hall.

Madeline couldn't help but glare at the man before her, she warned him of her family

"Yet he decide to come back? You must think your some hero..."

Madeline thought to herself as Peter stared at her silently....His eyes were no different from the people surrounding her, It felt suffocating to stand there and listen to the same Priest saying the same words with the exact same expression.

Another flower girl, another ring, another man to throw away...

The ceremony dragged on and it was time for their vows, a scowl appeared on Peter's face as he braced himself to say something she had heard numerous times before...

".....I promise to love and cherish you.."

Madeline took this as a sign, " This marriage is doomed"

Peter could see Madeline's eyes lose its fire, it had been too long since they last saw each other.

A moment of silence, they just stared at each other before he took her hand, gently grasping her palm as he slid the ring on.

Madeline could feel the warmth of his palm but his eyes spoke otherwise, she grabbed his hand in a hurry and slid the ring unto his finger as she glanced at his face.

She noticed that he looked sad, a contrast to her former spouses who looked like they would excitedly jump into the air if their parents weren't watching.

Unlike Peter who had no parents behind him.

At least that was reassuring, now the whole country will be talking about the marriage of two orphans, who looked as dead as corpses on their wedding day.

"I must say, they should have become actors instead of nobles", Madeline thought to herself, noticing the sudden shift in the people's actions; from cold gazes to joyfully throwing flowers and shedding tears of joy. Well, at least they tried because if they didn't... they'd lose their heads.

The newly wedded couple walked down the aisle. Yes, she had done this many times but it was different with Peter

"He held on to my hand firmly, he even walked beside me. Honestly, this is a first for me..."

Madeline thought as she stared at her husband....her childhood friend

PETER THOMPSON
