Chapter 6 Can You Help Me Find My Dad?

The man in a suit and leather shoes walked with a commanding presence, his every movement exuding an air of domineering. He pulled back the first seat with his broad hand and crossed both hands on the conference table, scanning every person in the room with his black eyes. "Let's begin the meeting."

Only then did Jenny snap out of her trance, her heart beating wildly. The president of the Beryl Jewelers was none other than Jerome Simmons. They hadn't seen each other for eight and a half years.

Jenny glanced at Jerome's expression, but it seemed like he didn't see her at all. Everything was already long gone, so Jenny quickly adjusted her mentality. Fortunately, her subsequent presentation went off without a hitch. As the Director of the Design Department, who had returned from abroad, she showed herself perfectly in front of all the high-level leaders.

After the meeting, Jerome picked up the folder and left. "Ms. Hughes, please come to my office."

Jenny's heart skipped a beat, and she felt perhaps this meeting was too sudden. She laughed at herself inwardly and hurriedly gathered her documents to catch up to him.

In the president's office, Jerome leaned against his desk with his arms crossed. The sunlight shone through the glass window and sparkled on his diamond cufflinks. He stared at the face of the woman sitting on the sofa for a while and then lowered his head as if he was thinking about something.

Finally, Jenny broke the awkward silence. "Do you have any thoughts on my proposal during the meeting, Mr. Simmons?"

Thoughts? Jerome had no thoughts about that, and he didn't even know what Jenny had said. For two hours in the meeting, he had recalled those seemingly distant things. Her bright face and high ponytail. "How have you been all these years?" he asked.

Jenny smiled faintly and said, "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Simmons. I've been abroad for a while, and then I come back to work."

"You have a good career abroad. Why don't you stay?"

"I miss my motherland."

Jerome grinned, amused that Jenny was still so difficult to deal with. Just as he was about to speak, Jenny said lightly, "Mr. Simmons, your career is thriving, and your life is happy. As for me, I have to work overtime just to put food on the table. Let's talk about work." The implication was that her time was very precious, and he didn't want to talk nonsense with him.

Her words left Jerome speechless for a while. "I've been forgetful lately. What did you say in the meeting earlier?"

Jenny took out a document, got up, walked to the desk, put it down, and said, "Mr. Simmons, this is the speech draft. Take your time to read it. I'm going to work."

Jerome looked at the arrogant Jenny in surprise. No one dared to treat him like this. It was not until Jenny left and the door was closed that he touched his nose and walked to the wine cabinet with a bright smile. "I've been waiting for this day for a long time. My dream has finally come true..."

...

After dinner, after working for a while, Jenny pushed open her son's door and saw Chuck typing on the computer. "Baby, what are you studying?"

Chuck replied without looking back, "Nothing. I'm just checking a map of a city."

Jenny knew her son was a computer genius. He could easily hack into many cities' surveillance systems, companies' financial systems, and people's computers. In other words, it would be a breeze if he wanted to steal some city or business secrets. "Oh, which country?"

"Ulyss. I'm just a little interested in someone. I'll investigate him."

Jenny had reminded Chuck many times. "We have to be law-abiding citizens, Okay?"

Chuck turned his head slightly and smiled. "I'm upright as you, Mom. Look at me, I'm completely clean, and there's no way I'm breaking the law."

"Um..." Jenny hesitated a bit. "Is there anyone in Dixon City that interests you?"

"Yes." Chuck chuckled, his bright eyes falling on Jenny's face. Seeing her look guilty, he couldn't help but find it amusing.

"Who is it?"

"Of course it's you!" Watching Jenny was obviously a little nervous but pretended to be relaxed, and Chuck felt a little funny.

A pile of lines on the computer screen quickly enlarged, and two seconds later, an image appeared. The picture showed a woman with electronic shackles on her right ankle. She was wearing high heels and an elegant suit. With a smile, she walked calmly, and her head held high as if she was going to attend a high-end business meeting.

The woman was accompanied by more than a dozen elites in suits and leather shoes. Not far away, a group of people surrounded the cordon and shouted, "Allison Foster is innocent. Release Allison Foster."

Jenny casually asked, "What are you looking at this for?"

Chuck moved the mouse to a man outside the perimeter rope and said, "This guy might be trying to blow up Allison's villa and kill her."

Jenny nodded absent-mindedly, patted Chuck's shoulder, and left. She wasn't very concerned about these things. She had learned a lot of strange things from Chuck and had long gotten used to it.

Chuck turned around and glanced at the closed door. His eyes revealed a mature, calm look that didn't belong to a child, as if he were thinking about something.

Jenny and Brittany were whispering affectionately in the living room. Chuck suddenly came out and said, "Mom, I want to go to the park."

Brittany immediately clapped her hands in agreement. She loved going out to play. "Chuck, take me too. I want to go."

Looking at the lights outside the window, Jenny happily agreed to the children's request.

The summer heat of the night in Dixon Park had faded away. Elderly men exercising, middle-aged women walking, and children running around filled the park. When they walked through the park's center, the noise gradually faded away as the dim streetlights illuminated the winding cobblestone path.

"Mom, I want some water." Chuck sat down on the stone bench, sweating profusely. Brittany followed his lead and sat down too. "I want some pink water."

The kids were too tired to go with her, so Jenny gave a few instructions and left by herself.

Chuck watched Jenny's figure disappear into the distance. He took Brittany's hand and ran across the path. On the other side was a narrow asphalt road by the small river, and a man in a suit leaned against the railing on the riverbank. Thirty feet away from him was a flashy yellow Ferrari. The light from afar cast a glow on the man's cool figure.

Chuck whispered something to Brittany, and then she ran over to the man. "Sir, I can't find my Dad. Can you help me find him?"

The man lowered his head. The sweet child's voice was like a beam of sunlight piercing through the gloomy thoughts in his mind. He paused for a moment, slightly adjusting his facial expression, afraid of scaring Brittany. He bent down and looked at her face, seeming somewhat familiar. "What's your name, little girl?"

"Sir, my name is Brittany."

Frederick also came here to relax and escape from the bustle of the city. Recently, there had been too many things going on in his mind. He felt he couldn't catch them and fall asleep these days. "Oh? What's your father's name?"
