Chapter 7: The race
I moved over to my bike and put on the helmet, Then I sat over my bike and several of its parts lit up in light neon blue. At the front a message appeared near the speedometer:
"WELCOME TO VOSCOVILLE"
Then it showed the complete map of the city. I could spot the HQ depicted in red, being two kilometers away from where I was
Amidst the feelings of panic to win and amazement, I could feel my heart throbbing against my ribs. I had never ridden a bike before. It wouldn't be a big deal if I lost, but in my opinion, it would be a disgrace to my CGI character. I tried to trust my instinct. I simply stood there trying out buttons. Yeah. A lot of buttons unlike the ones used in the human world. I clicked on one in the top right which stood out as a slightly darker shade. It began to roar viciously. Before I had time to swallow the sudden change, I was riding, At top speed! Holding on for dear life, I thought I would go deaf by the noise the engine was making. It was steadily increasing speed. After a while, I found myself in a world of lights dancing on everything they could reach for, It was like the kind of part of the cities popular for their nightlife. I could spot no people, even if they were present. Most things were just a blur. I overtook several cars.
The map gave a slight beep to alert me that I was nearly approaching the HQ. Then the same girl who met me on the dark road appeared on my left and had time to yell "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME" before overtaking me.
I couldn't see clearly but she just reached the top of a nearby shop? How did she do that? If she could do it, I could definitely too but I wasn't keen to take risks just right now. The HQ was now just one turn right away.
"Almost there." I said to myself. The turn approached. I was ready to turn when the same girl cut across my way and speeded off. I could almost feel angry towards her!
She reached there first. My heart dropped slightly. I approached too, near a massive building. I applied my brakes and stopped next to that girl.
