After a few hours, the time for the exam arrived, and Elder Liu informed all the qualified disciples to follow him. Kai also followed him alone since Xieling did not follow him.
Along the way, Kai realized that other disciples following elder Liu were outer disciples of the sect, and some of them had participated in the inner sect exam before but failed, while others were just partaking in it for the first time.
The disciples all turned to look at Kai with interest, although most of them ignored him while others viewed him with dislike. However, Kai can sympathize with their plight because he was aware that many who regarded him with contempt did so because they believed he was taking advantage of Elder Xieling's connections.
However, Kai did not care one bit, so he focused on his goals. After they walked for about twenty minutes, they arrived in front of huge mountains with multiple cave entrances around them.
"This place is called devil prison; it is the place where we imprison heretic demonic cultivators, whom we capture; some are even members of our sect," elder Liu said.
"This is the place where your inner disciple exam will take place; you will choose any cave and kill the prisoner inside. However, let me warn you: "The cultivators inside these caves are terrifying; even the weakest of them have killed thousands of people before we captured them, but as long as you manage to kill any of them, you will become an inner disciple. If you die in there, no one gives a fuck about you, so choose wisely, and you can also choose to stop now and return to being the outer disciples". Elder Liu explained.
After hearing Elder Liu's explanation, some disciples got scared and chose to return to their homes, while others had a firm expression on their faces.
Elder Liu nodded at those who had a firm gaze on them, while he sneered at those who chose to abandon the test because of their fear. How can they be called true demonic experts when they have fear in their hearts? A true demon will face death without any fear present in his heart.
After some disciples left, only twenty remained, including Kai. So Elder Liu gestures for them to choose the cave they want to enter. There were fifty caves in the mountain, and elder Liu explained to them that there is also a special benefit to anyone who manages to kill the heretic cultivator in cave number one.
Hearing this, Kai got curious, so he asked, "Elder Liu, what is the bonus reward for anyone who manages to kill the number 1 cave prisoner, and also how scary is the prisoner for the sect to place an extra bonus on it?".
Elder Liu stared deep into Kai's eyes for a moment. He thought Kai was driven by greed; that's why he was interested in the extra bonus, but seeing Kai's firm and determined expression, all he saw inside was a confident man who loved challenges.
He nodded to Kai before he replied, "Anyone who manages to kill the number 1 prisoner will be given 10,000 contribution points and also be given a chance to undergo a baptism in the immortal devil pond". He further explained. "However, killing that cultivator is so hard, and for the past 500 years no one has been able to kill him; his name is Garos, and he was the most talented inner disciple of our sect 500 years ago; in fact, he was expected to be the next sect leader before he was found doing heretic demon cultivations".
After listening to Elder Liu's explanation, the other disciple immediately canceled the thought of choosing the cave. They can't imagine how many disciples have died in that cave for the past 500 years.
However, this only ignites Kai's battle intent more; he wants to test the limits of his body and strength. According to his master's teachings, he must break through multiple limits of his body before he can become a true battle warrior.
"Elder Liu, I chose the number 1 cave". He said it firmly.
Elder Liu nodded without persuading him; he then transported Kai to the cave entrance and told him to wait for others to choose, and once they finish choosing, he would open the entrance for them at the same time.
Kai stood at the entrance of the cave, taking in the sight before him with a mix of fear and determination. The prison lay deep within the sect, shrouded in a thick layer of darkness and death that made Kai shudder. He could feel the malevolent energy emanating from within, and he knew that he was about to face his greatest test yet.
After waiting for a few minutes, the cave entrance opened, and Kai took a deep breath before stepping inside. As he walked deeper into the cave, the cold air brushed against his face, and he realized that he was surrounded by the densest demonic energy he had ever encountered.
Despite the overwhelming aura of corruption, Kai started circulating his cultivation techniques in his mind, and the rune on his forehead lit up, helping him absorb the surrounding demonic energy to temper his body and empower him for the battle ahead.
After walking for ten minutes, Kai arrived in the large area inside the cave, and he found himself facing an old, twisted figure who was the prisoner for this cave, named Garos.
Garo's body was shriveled and emaciated from years of practicing forbidden arts, and his sharp, piercing eyes glinted with a sickening yellow. His hair was dark and greasy, hanging down past his shoulders in a tangled mess. He wore a long, tattered red robe, and his skin was covered from head to toe in twisted, black runes that seemed to glow with an eerie power.
"I am the dreaded demon lord, Garos," he hissed, eyeing Kai with an expression of malice and delight. "And it seems that I have a new toy to play with. I'm glad you came because I have been lonely for the past 200 years since anyone entered".
Kai tensed up, feeling the full weight of Garo's malevolent energy bearing down upon him. He had never seen a mortal realm expert with such a heavy aura before. The way Garos spoke, with an air of superiority, only made Kai more determined to behead him.
"You can try," Kai shot back, and immediately his huge black saber appeared in his hand.
"Naive, boy, I see you have a good body; moreover, this body of mine is reaching its limit, so I plan to extract your soul and occupy your body; however, I will make sure I torture your soul for 100 years before I devour you". Garos said to Kia before he stood up, walking toward Kai step by step.
Kai realized that Garos was in the master stage of the mortal realm, which is the final stage of the mortal realm; moreover, Garos is not just an ordinary master stage expert, so he decided to make the first move in order to have the upper hand.
He rushed toward Garos with a swift body movement. Kai was fast, so it only took him a moment to arrive beside Garos. He slashed his saber forward as hard as he could.
Bang, a huge metallic sound echoed through the cave. Kai realized that a blood-red spear was blocking his saber now. He frowned and quickly threw a punch forward.
Bang, another sound rang out. This sound is the collision of two powerful fists.
Kai was forced to take ten steps backward. He looked at Garos, and all he could see was a devilish smile on his face.
"Strong body with solid foundation; I'm in love with your body's movement; now show me what more your body is capable of". Garos said it out loud with devilish laughter.
Kai frowned. "As you wish", he said before rushing toward Garos again. With that, the two began to exchange attacks, moving with a fluidity that was beyond human. Garos lunged forward, leaping at Kai with a terrifying spear strike. Kai dodged the attack and retaliated with a vertical slash toward his head.
After exchanging hundreds of attacks, Garos realized that Kai was not getting weaker at all; in fact, his movement was getting faster and his attacks were becoming fiercer. He frowned, then decided to take things more seriously and end the fight.
Suddenly Garos body started changing and twisting as he unleashed his immense demonic power; blood fog started covering his whole body, and many faces appeared within this blood fog; moreover, Garos' eyes turned completely blood red, and his voice became eerie. Suddenly, he let out a sickening howl, his eyes glowing with madness.
Kai felt a chill run down his spine upon seeing the sudden transformation in Garos, and he also felt that his aura had become stronger. He braced himself for the next attack.
