Warfare in the Dungeons

Lavender stood next to his parents , whose eyes were to never be opened again. A-Yeong, his cheerful little sister, did not speak to him that day . How could she ? Her parents who loved and raised her were dead .

Lavender did not blame her , as he also needed time to let it sink in . There they were , staring at the people who raised them . No one was there to attend the funeral of their parents , as they only had each other , and Luna could not make it .

The weather was not kind to them , as they walked home . The rain did not stop falling , buildings were crammed with people trying to escape the rain.

When they arrived they went to their rooms. Lavender stared at the ceiling, and counted his savings. ' Less than 1,100,000 won , huh '. It was less than expected . Lavender knew that it wasn't even 1000 U.S.D.

He got up from his bed and went to the bathroom. He looked at the mirror, and evaluated himself. ' I'm not looking good, but I could certainly do better .' Lavender was a healthy teen , but he was not at a level where he was happy with himself.

He had a short hair cut that was combed to the side. His shoulders were strong and his arms were defined . His calf was very muscular and his thighs were strong . His wrist were skinny and he hasn't worked out for a while and started drinking , so he gained weight . His eyes were cold , and his gaze was colder.

The 5'10 half Korean and half Mexican put on a coat and headed for the door .

" Where are you going , Oppa ? The rain is still pouring." A-Yeong looked from the corner of the her room . She was pretty , young , and was tall for her age . She looked nothing like him .She gave Lavender a worried face .

" I'm looking for wor- , no ... that's a lie . I'm looking for company . " Lavender didn't lie to his sister. He was going to a friend's house to drink his sorrow away. " I want to drink to keep the demons out of my head , I'll have someone drive me home . "

" At least lie to me about that .You're going to drink and pass out on some bench and make us look more unapproachable . " A frown appeared on her face , she wanted to stop him from embarrassing himself but she couldn't , he's been doing this for a while and already gave himself a bad image . " If anything is bothering you at least talk to me. I know it's been rough but let me carry some of the burd-" .

Lavender turned around and faced her, he saw her face tearing up. He opened the door and stepped out .

" I promise I'll talk to somebody, but that person won't be you . I don't want to rely on you , so I'll talk to Luna . I'll be back before mom can sco- " . He stopped himself .

His complexion darkened. He hesitated to look at his sister. " Sor-"

" Don't " . He couldn't see A-Yeong , but he could hear her breath.

Lavender didn't dare say anything else , he closed the door behind him and left . His face was cold and solemn as he pictured his mother in the kitchen of their apartment scolding him for throwing a rock at the neighbor's kid .

' Hey mom , sorry for being a bastard , but at least let me live in peace after you pass .' Lavender chuckled to himself. Would his mother be proud of a son who was about to go drink with a friend and pass out on the sidewalk ?

He wanted to be held by his mother , he wanted his late father to be proud of him . He wanted some type of validation , he wanted some type of love .

Luna was just a few blocks away . They've been acquainted since they were young. Luna was his only friend. They were both alone . But they were alone together, and it's been that way for over a decade. They drank away the pain together and enjoyed friendly banter with each other.

' At least Luna will always hold me ' . His coat was wet and he shivered in the breeze. He walked up to Luna's doorstep and knocked on the door . " Hey Luna , wanna drink ? "

He waited outside the doorstep for a minute and the door opened. What opened the door was a hideous creat- no that's just Luna .

Luna looked at Lavender from all angles. After she finished examining him , she motioned for him to come in . " Damn , at least work out . Be a douch bag that's hot , not an ugly bastard . " Luna slapped his back and she skipped towards the fridge.

" I could say the same damn thing about you ." Lavender sat on the couch and made himself warm and comfortable. To be completely honest, Luna was fine in terms of health and looks . If anything , she was envied by many for being cute . But nobody approached her , at least nobody besides Lavender.

Luna sat right next to him , and handed him a Korona. " Don't be so cruel , at least compliment me ! " Luna was never shy around him , and always brightened up the his day .

Today was not too different. Even if his parents funeral was today , Luna was always so inviting and held him close.

" Sorry for not coming , I really could not make it. You know how difficult it is being a Mercenary . " Luna was always mindful, and apologized when she didn't need to.

He took a swing of Korona , and looked at her . " Don't apologize, I'd probably not be able to cancel that if I were you too . Being here is enough for me . "

Luna looked at the ground , then glanced at Lavender. She took a swing of her bottle and leaned on his shoulder . " Why don't you come with me next time ? "

Lavender did not know what it took to be a dungeon mercenary , but he knew they were paid well . " Do I look like a mercenary to you ?" He said half-heartedly.

" At least we'll be together more often . " Luna gazed at his chest . " Payment is good , don't you want to send A-Yeong to college? "

" I don't know if I have the guts to kill another person . " He heard many things about the Dungeons. There was never good news . It was always the number of casualties and the trauma that the ' hunters ' faced .

" Consider it , it may suit you . And remember , they aren't people. They're a race that wants to conquer and enslave us . They don't deserve mercy. " Luna clutched on Lavender's shirt . She was keen on getting him to register as a Mercenary.

"I'll do it if you can promise me alcohol and company ! " Lavender had drunk every last drop of Korona .

Both he and Luna drank until they passed out . He made a decision that would change his life .

He decided to register as a Dungeon Mercenary .
