The subtle breeze blowing against my hand as I turned around to observe the path we had taken.
"The scent of water is strong, we're nearly there"my brother exclaimed with gleeful delight.
The weariness suddenly started affecting us as we got closer to our destination,it had been 3 days since the beast attacks according to my watch.
"Be careful, we don't know whether it's safe or not" I called out not hiding the joy in my voice at the sound of water trickling.
'Never in my entire life would I have thought that vegetation and water existed in a land that lacked everything'
"Water"
"I can see water"
"Finally our efforts have paid out" Nico cried out beside me falling to the ground.
We had suffered, every single human that was with us had died leaving only 30 of us. We were lucky to escape with our lives, but how and why, I couldn't understand. All I could see was a path. I couldn't comprehend what that had to do with the truth, why did they have to die even after I glimpsed a small part of there so-called truth.
"Let's drink water and rest, after that we set up camp here. I want all of you to be gathered here in an hour or whatever, I'll shout to signify when your all to be here" I shouted as they rushed to the water without any constraints.
I also moved forward to quench my thirst.
The water felt heavenly while quenching my thirst, I felt all the fatigue wash over me as sleep beckoned akin to a lullaby
Looking around, they were all asleep like babies. 'Guess I have no choice' was my last thought before letting myself drift off.
"Help!"
"Please save my son"
"I don't want to die"
"Does a God even exist" there voices all jumbled up, my mind going blank.
"Nathan!" A vice bought me back to reality
"Didn't you say you love me, die for me" those words made me freeze, did she just say I should die for her. Is that all I'm worth, to die while she lives.
"Brother, I don't want to die" looking into his blue puffed eyes showing how much he'd been crying.
"Don't worry Ed, I'll protect you we'll leave here alive" I smiled trying my best to reassure him as worry overtook me
Natalie was pressing her body to me urging me to due for her while my brother begged me to promise we'd survive.
What type of cursed world did we come to at the same time been urged to find the truth. If the truth was so simple wouldn't everybody had gotten it by now.
My head was a whirlwind of chaotic thoughts, the screams and cries of people been killed and eaten.
Everything was entering at a rate I couldn't handle. Shit, a beast is coming, I need to do something. I'm going to die, we're all going to die but I'm a soldier how can I think of something like that.
I need to survive for my brothers sake, yes survive that's the only way but I need a knife. If I can remember I had a dagger, dagger it should be here.
"Aaargh"
Natalie was gone, it's red eyes turned to me, I was next but I'll not die that easily. My years of train overtook my body and moved based on instincts, it jumped at me it's mouth open to swallow me.
"Screee....."
Blood poured on me, my dagger stuck in its head, it had pierced through the upper part of the jaw straight to the brain.
Light blinded my eyes, an intense pain and agony assaulted all my senses. My brain felt like melting before I saw a path.
My body ran through the path seeing trees and fruits I had never imagined, at the end of it all was water- a must-have for anybody to survive.
"Brother, brother. You promised not to leave me, you said we'd survive don't die on me" Edmund cried shaking me back to reality.
A path, we can survive. My mind processed all this in a matter of seconds my eyesight becoming sharper. I could see, clearer than I could ever imagine.
Jumping up, I dragged my brother and placed him on my back before running off, evading all the beasts, I ran deeper and deeper before I noticed, no beast were here but I could still hear panting.
Turning around I saw them- a bunch of people that threw everything away to follow me when they saw my charge into the beasts.
I woke up drenched in sweat, feeling tears coming out. My nightmare of the first day had continued to haunt till now.
