Chapter 5

5 days after fighting the obsidian wolf, I finally came out of the forest and continued west, after half a day I came across a dirt road with fresh tracks and followed it.

2 hours later I came across a small town near a river and small patches of woods, it was surrounded by a 3 meter tall wall and gates on the west and east sides.

when I went to the eastern gate the guards looked at me weird, but that's to be expected... all I'm wearing is a pair of torn pants and cloth wrapped around my hands and feet. I went up to one of the guards and spoke hoping they could understand me.

"Hey man! are you lost? did you get robbed? you look like trash" spoke the guard. thankfully I could understand them even tho they weren't speaking English or any other language I know.

"Ye man. I was going through the forest and some thugs ambushed me, they stole everything even my horse" I lied through my teeth. the guard laughed and opened the crude wooden gate.

Expecting to see the typical fantasy town scenery my heart started racing, but what I was greeted with was a normal medieval looking village with mostly humans and a few dwarves going about their business.

Why did I go to a town you ask? I have no need for food nor do i need a place to sleep, so why? well for science reasons of course... just kidding! I just wanted to see some fantasy creatures and see medieval armor and weapons... gotta say I love me some armor, even tho I have no longer any need for it.

I went around asking if anyone needed any help for a cheap price, and of course most ignored me for my shabby looks, but some suggested going to the lumberjack or the blacksmith for quick money... "I guess my previous joke came back to bite me"

After getting the directions for the lumberjack's place I found a stone building with slanted wooden roof, when i knocked on the door a dwarven woman opened it and yelled

"What do you want! We are busy so be quick, will ya!"

with that rude introduction I confirmed with her that I came looking for a job, after which she calmed down and brought me inside, in the building there were few others doing carpentry, she quickly introduced me to herself and the two others, the dwarven woman was called Shana, the other two were human man and woman, Baris and Bell respectively and they were siblings.

after the introduction Shana handed me an axe and told me that in a few weeks the merchants would come and they had to make lots more furniture so they needed someone who just cut wood whilst others worked on the wood, and this is where i come in, local wood boy.

Shana told me that..."as long as you keep cutting wood, ill give you food and a place to sleep" well I didn't expect good quality food nor a decent place to sleep in and my expectations paid off, the food was just a simple stew and bread whilst I slept in a shed... In the first place I had no need for food nor sleep but I enjoyed everything I was given to the fullest.

The first few days It took me a while to properly get used to cutting wood thus they had many chips, but I got a hang of it in no time at all and with that I got a pleasant surprise

「Gained skill Axe Mastery(low)」and

「Gained skill Vital Strike」

The skill 「Axe Mastery(low)」lets me use axes and axelike weapons easily and efficiently

whilst 「Vital Strike」guides my weapon to the vital points of my opponents.

because I have no need to sleep and I wont be bothered in the shed until sunrise, I decided to look into the phenomena that happens when I use my skills.

{5 days after entering the town}

Its midnight, I'm nonstop activating 「Crystal Maw」and focusing on my surroundings.

"fuu..."

[think. feel how the magic in the air moves after activating the skill]

[how can I move the mana without activating the skills] whilst trying my hardest to reach out with my mind and move the mana I get a notification

「Due to mental exhaustion a Debuff has been applied」

「Skill Immortality has negated mental debuff」

「Due to going against God's will a curse has been applied」

「Skill Immortality has negated curse」

「Due to angering God you have been Smited」and a lightning bolt fell on my head with the might of a semi-truck going at the speed of sound... but... I'm immortal what did God expect?

without stopping my concentration and ignoring the giant burnt hole in the roof of the shed where I *sleep*, I continue trying to manipulate mana around me.

And for my unrelenting spirit and dumb luck another notification pops up

「You have broken through God's rules and broken his curse Magic Chains」

after which ethereal chains appeared around my body and shattered

「You can now interact with mana with more ease」

"NICE!"

and that's when Shana came running and swearing saying that she hopes I'm alive so she can beat the living bejesus out of me, which she does shortly after seeing the burning hole in the sheds roof.
