Chapter Sixteen

The next morning arrived quickly, and I was overwhelmed by the feeling of having so much to do in such little time. I had to take my car back to Paolo's shop, take Jackie to school, try and get my phone fixed and go to work later this evening.

It didn't help that it was already 7:05 am and Jackie's classes usually started at 8. The problem was that Jackie's school was 20 minutes away from here but 40 minutes away from Paolo's shop. If we didn't leave now, we would be late.

I quickly threw on some clothes and pinned my hair up into a messy updo ponytail and yanked the sheets off my sister's body. "Get up! You're gonna be late!" Jackie groaned but I ignored her.

I opened my bedroom door and ran out to the kitchen. The first thing I noticed was the pile of dirty dishes in my sink. I stared at them with contempt and massaged my forehead. No one had bothered to clean up after eating their pizza yesterday. Was I supposed to do everything?
