Soulmate (2)

Soulmate? Is he going insane? And why does he sound desperate? Does he think I'm not going to stay with him? He is correct. I'm torn, contemplating whether to leave everything behind and return home. But is there even a home for me there anymore? The uncertainty is suffocating.

Even so, I'm not safe here.

The Empress wants something from me; I just haven't put my finger on it yet. Kaiserin says he's in love with me, but how do I know that he's not on the same side as the Empress? Fear and suspicion are eating me alive.

I stared at Kaiserin, my expression a mix of confusion and determination. "Kaiserin, you said you'd give me a week to sort out my feelings, right? Well, I've made up my mind. I don't feel the same way about you. I'm sorry, but your feelings are unrequited."

Kaiserin looked at me with a perplexed gaze before laughing his heart out. "Oh, Liselotte. Now I'm certain about it. I had some doubts at first, but now I know."

I eyed Kaiserin with a befuddled expression. I couldn't comprehend what he was trying to say. What point was he making? Did he know something about me that I don't? Or does he know about my situation? The confusion and frustration were overwhelming.

"Kaiserin, perhaps do you know-"

"You're just playing hard to get!"

How could I have been so blind? He's nothing but an arrogant fool! He can't even handle a simple rejection!

I regarded him with a gaze that suggested he was the epitome of foolishness. God, I mean, how could someone be this childish?

"Kaiserin, I do not like you!" I yelled

Kaiserin laughed it off and then began walking to the front door. Before leaving, he looked back at me and said, "Keep in touch! I still want to see you in the Crimson Mirage."

God, how ridiculous could he be?
