Chapter 25. Nexus...[7]

##################################

Raven's POV...

As Riyan and I navigated through the dense, eerie forest, our hearts raced with every snap of a twig and rustle of leaves. We had to escape, to flee from the clutches of that sinister man who pursued us relentlessly. The memories of our previous encounter still lingered, a haunting reminder of the terror we had endured.

We were just nine years old, mere children, but our determination to survive drove us forward. Our Mana Containers, small and fragile, had replenished our energy, but we knew it wouldn't last long. We had to keep moving, to find a way out of this labyrinthine forest before our pursuer caught up with us again.

As we tread carefully, our footsteps silent on the damp earth, our senses were on high alert. The rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, every sound seemed amplified, making us jump at the slightest noise.

Riyan's eyes locked onto mine, and I could see the fear mirrored in them. We were two young souls, alone and vulnerable, but we had each other. Our bond was our strength, our hope.

Suddenly, the silence was shattered by the unmistakable sound of footsteps, heavy and deliberate. Our hearts skipped a beat as we froze, our eyes darting towards the source of the noise.

Riyan's whisper was barely audible, but I felt the urgency in his words: "Hide... quickly..." We didn't need to exchange another glance; we knew what to do.

We darted towards a nearby thicket of bushes, our small bodies blending into the foliage. The leaves seemed to close in around us, a fragile shield against the danger that lurked outside.

As we held our breath, our fears were confirmed. The man, our tormentor, emerged from the trees, his condition more alarming than before. His eyes, sunken and wild, scanned the surroundings, his gaze piercing through the underbrush. His face, twisted in a mixture of rage and obsession, seemed to contort even further as he spotted our hiding place. A slow, sinister smile spread across his face, and his voice, low and menacing, sent shivers down our spines.

"Looks like I have found you, Princess of Reyas, the Experimental Subject, and Prince of Asura," he crooned, his words dripping with malice. The way he pronounced our titles, with an unholy reverence, made my skin crawl.

We were trapped, cornered, and at his mercy. The bushes seemed to shrink, offering little protection against the evil that loomed over us. Riyan's hand found mine, and I squeezed it tight, drawing strength from our bond. We were in this together, and together, we would face whatever horrors lay ahead.

As I stood there, frozen in terror, a thought suddenly materialized in my mind like a dark, ominous cloud: "That Kidnapper has found Us..." The words echoed through my brain, sending shivers down my spine. It was as if the very fabric of our precarious existence had been torn apart, leaving us exposed and vulnerable.

Riyan, sensing my distress, sprang into action. With a swift, fluid motion, he rose to his feet, his eyes blazing with a fierce determination. He raised his hands, and a burst of fiery energy erupted from his fingertips, unleashing a powerful fireblast that hurtled towards our pursuer.

The blast was so unexpected, so sudden, that the man couldn't react in time, and he stumbled backward, his body crumpling under the force of the attack. A faint cry of pain escaped his lips as he fell to the ground, his body battered and bruised.

Riyan didn't hesitate. With a swift glance at me, he grasped my hand, and we both took off, fleeing from the injured man as if our lives depended on it. As we ran, I managed to stammer out a plan, my words tumbling out in a frantic rush: "We have only one way to kill him... We need to tire him out... Our Mana Containers are fully drained, and he's seriously injured... We can use that to our advantage..."

But our respite was short-lived. A faint rustling sound behind us grew louder, and we knew our pursuer was closing in. Riyan and I exchanged a fleeting glance, our eyes locking in a silent understanding.

We knew what we had to do. With a deep breath, we focused our Affinities and Mana, channeling our energy into a fusion spell that would combine the Fury of Flames with the Raw Power of Thunder. The air around us began to crackle with electricity as we cast our spell, the sound of thunder growing louder, more menacing.

The man, still reeling from his injuries, attempted to counter our attack, draining his Mana Container in a desperate bid to deflect our spell. But we had anticipated this. We poured more Mana into our attack, fueling it with our determination to survive.

The two spells collided in a blinding flash of light, the sound of thunder booming through the forest like a living entity. For a moment, it seemed as if the very fabric of reality had been torn asunder.

And then, in the blink of an eye, the man was sent flying, his body crashing to the ground with a sickening thud. Riyan and I exchanged a triumphant glance, our chests heaving with exhaustion. We thought it was finally over, that we had emerged victorious from the jaws of death.

But fate had other plans.

In a move that caught us both off guard, the man suddenly materialized behind me, his hand closing around my wrist like a vice. I was paralyzed with fear, my heart racing like a wild animal.

Riyan, sensing my distress, was by my side in an instant, his eyes blazing with a fierce protectiveness. The man's gaze locked onto Riyan, and he spoke in a voice that sent shivers down my spine: "Asura Prince, leave from here... My Lord doesn't want to hurt You..."

But Riyan was having none of it. With a swift, economical motion, he lifted a massive stone and brought it crashing down on the man's head, freeing me from his grasp.

I was shaken, my heart still racing with fear, but Riyan's actions had awakened something deep within me. My feelings, which had been simmering beneath the surface since our kidnapping, had finally boiled over into a fierce, all-consuming love.

Riyan's eyes, blazing with anger, locked onto the man, and he spat out a single, defiant word: "Fuck off...!!!" The sound of his voice, low and menacing, sent shivers down my spine. We both knew that we couldn't trust this man, that he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

And so, driven by our fear, we both picked up massive stones and began to smash them down on the man's body, our blows raining down like a deadly storm. His screams of pain echoed through the forest, growing fainter with each passing moment, until they finally ceased.

But we didn't stop. We couldn't stop. Our fear had taken hold of us, driving us to keep smashing, to keep punishing, until the man's body was nothing more than a bloody, pulped mess.

When we finally stopped, our chests heaving with exhaustion, our clothes were stained with blood, and Riyan's eyes had lost their sparkle. I turned to him, my heart still racing with fear, and smiled, my voice barely above a whisper: "Let's go, Ri..." It was the first time I had used a nickname for him, and the sound of it felt strange, yet intimate, on my lips.

Riyan's gaze locked onto mine, and he smiled back, his voice low and husky: "Yeah, Rev..." My heart skipped a beat as I heard him use a nickname for me for the first time. I felt a blush rise to my cheeks, and I knew, in that moment, that I was irretrievably lost to him.

We stumbled out of the forest, our legs trembling with exhaustion, our hearts still racing with fear. But as we emerged into the bright sunlight, we saw buildings in the distance, and our hearts leapt with hope.

We quickly found a way to communicate with our families, and soon, they arrived, their faces etched with worry and relief.

And that's how I came to love my Riyan, my Asura Prince, my protector, my savior. In that moment, I knew that I would follow him to the ends of the earth, that I would stand by his side through thick and thin, through life and death.
