“What are your plans now?” Jasmine asks.

“Evan might be in danger until the guilty people in the company go to trial, so we want to go somewhere he can be hidden. I want to be able to protect him,” Rene says firmly.

“What if you come home? No one would look for a human in Felis Forest,” Jasmine suggests.

“I’d like that, but the elders would never allow it.”

In Rene’s home, Evan would be safe, and he could do research at Nanook’s health center. It would be a great place to hide, as there are checkpoints coming into town, and strange humans would be immediately noticed, but Evan doesn’t see himself ever being allowed back.

“I am the elders. They’ll allow what I say they will,” Damon says.

“What do you mean?” Rene asks, looking confused.

“If Dr. Kidd would like to come and live in our town, I’ll get the elders to agree to it,” Damon tells Rene.

“You don’t usually let humans in your town,” Evan replies, brow furrowing.
