Chapter 59

Evan isn’t on the phone too long, but in that time, Sue’s brought over juice, tea, and cookies, and the cat’s fallen asleep in Evan’s lap and is snoring.

“They’re sending people out soon. I told them about the threat from my ex. They seemed to be taking it seriously.” Evan sighs.

“You think it’s connected to the note?” Rene asks.

“Someone threatened you?” Sue says almost at the same time.

“You remember my ex, Adam? The guy who turned out to be married? He left a weird note at my office,” Evan says to Sue, then he looks at Rene. “I think it could be. I don’t have any enemies, and it doesn’t look like anything was stolen. I don’t keep money in my apartment. I don’t have a lot of valuables. My money goes into my work. I know this is nothing to do with what happened in your home. This threat is the only reason I can think of for this.” Evan rubs his forehead before going back to pet the fluffy animal in his lap.

“So, Evan, who’s your new friend?” Sue asks curiously.
