“I can’t just sit here and do nothing.” Evan sighs.

“It’s late. Everyone’s looking for Graham. There isn’t anything else you can do tonight. Go to the center tomorrow. Check on the children. Work with Nanook on stockpiling the cure for this poison,” Rene suggests.

“And in the meantime?” Evan asks.

“In the meantime, you relax a little, then sleep. You should stay here. I’d feel better if you weren’t alone in the guesthouse, between this case and that strange note your ex sent,” Rene says softly, almost like he’s embarrassed about saying it. His words make it sound like he cares, but Evan doesn’t know if he’s just reading into that because he wants to.

“How about you distract me before we go to sleep?” Evan suggests.

“Happy to help. Go wait in bed. Get comfortable, and I’ll call Damon,” Rene offers.

Evan gets up from the table, brushing past Rene. He heads for Rene’s bedroom. Evan gets undressed and climbs on the bed. Seeing the lube, he gets a flash of inspiration.
