Chapter 39

Rene’s frown turns into a fierce scowl. “I see. So now we find out if the same thing happened to the other kittens.”

They ask each child if they went out on Halloween, and every child did. Some of them aren’t sure if they went to Mr. Socks’ house, but including Hannah, two are, so Evan thinks this is something worth looking into.

“Do you want to ask Nanook about him? I don’t know anything about him,” Rene suggests.

“Yeah, let’s find him.” Evan nods.

They say good-bye to Ana and go find Nanook in his office.

“No positive results yet,” Nanook says when he sees them.

“It’s not that. Do you know a Mr. Socks?” Evan asks.

“I’ve heard the name, but I don’t know anything about him. I could ask around for you?” Nanook offers.

“No, we don’t want anyone asking why we’re asking questions, not when I’m just suspicion.” Evan would hate to start a witch hunt that hurt an innocent man.

“We could ask Damon. He knows everyone in town,” Rene suggests.
