IT CAN'T

Days and nights had passed still she was lying in the hospital bed. No one knows what exactly happened that day apart from few who found her lying unconscious outside the great Mountains. One thing that disturbed me mostly was my daughter's style of living. Ever since she left for the school trip, the thing has been running in my mind both day and night giving me sleepless nights. Now am here, staring at her tiny face which ofcourse made me to recall my beautiful dead wife. She died for the sake of my daughter just to save her dying soul. Despite me knowing all the truth, l still kept it as a secret to my daughter though knowing one day l'll be forced to say the truths. No matter how heard l try, there's that one day, and I'll have to tell her the sacrifice that her mother did inorder she could be saved. Or else, she could be already taken by...Ooohhh! I can't even say it. It hurts when you have the chance to save the ones that you love most but one thing always keeps you from not doing it despite knowing it's wrong.

' She'll be okay sir. Don't worry, be strong and not for yourself, but for her. She's fighting too.' A voice distracted me from the thoughts as l raise my head immediately.'

' Mmhh! Uhhh! Ziddy it's you? What are you doing here at this time of the day. Aren't you supposed to be having your afternoon classes?' I asked adjusting my sitting position.'

' Don't worry. I borrowed my leave. Am missing her you know, l can't sit and wait yet having nothing to help her.'

' Yeah, your right. And what about Chaden? Is he here with you?'

' Ofcourse he wouldn't like to be left behind. He's afraid to face you, you know ever since you two met, he fears you like hell. I don't know why?' she spoke walking towards Hazel.'

' Owww! Is that so? Chad!! Young Man am giving you two seconds for you to appear in here, NOW!!!.' l shouted trying to scare him more.'

' Sir, Sir. Sorry l mean Mr Hudson Alan. You called me, here l am.'

' Why are you hiding? Do l eat humans?'

' No. No Sir. And you know that will never happen.'

' What if it happens? '

' Then I'll have to run..... Just to save my life. Or maybe l burry myself 6 feets underground for my safety.'

' Haahhh! I see how your mind works. Anyway, did anything happened while in that mountains.' l asked obviously knowing where the question will be leading to which again got them off guard.'

' Uhhh! Meaning? Chad asked trembling little.'

' Hey, don't panick. I just want to know what exactly happened. You know she's the only reason l survived and am still living, so l need to protect her. If you know what am meaning.'

' Errr... Sir to be sure, the moment we arrive, everything shuttered. First it was a tire that got a puncture and when the Principal told us to prepare our sleeping place, that's when everything changed to worse. Hazel was no where to be found and huge storm was coming from behind the mountains. We thought that maybe it was weather change but when we heard an earthquake which went for three times, we knew something was in a mess. No one knew where Hazel was but in my mind l knew she.... '

' It's a lie. And you know that too. She can't be the one.' l Cut standing again. I paced around the room in thoughts not knowing what else to do.'

' Don't say the prophecy was real. This can't happen to me again. No, l can't loose her this time. I won't forgive my sp ever again. No, it's just my illusions right from the start.'

' What prophecy are you talking about?' Ziddy added surprising me with my sudden outburst.'

' Eeehh!!! Nothing, nothing serious at all. Just don't mind it. You know how stressful l am so.....'

' We understand sir. But what if what you're trying to say is true? Even if l don't have any clue about it.'

' Young man, blabber that again and I'll rip off your helpless soul. Right this moment and hide your...... '

' Daad! Daad! Is... Is that..... '

' Hazel, Hazel. Sweety, it's me. Am here for you. It's me baby.' l quickly ran to her when l heard her tiny voice calling on me. I thought that she'll forever be gone, gone away from me.'

' Ooww my God! Jeez, doctor, doctor, please come. Doctor, Ziddy walked out shouting as l cuddle my only hope of life.'

' Doctor, she's awake.'

' Please sir, I'll like you to excuse me l check up on her. You know it has been over two weeks ever since she was laid in bed.'

' Yes sir! Please slowly, be careful. I don't want to see her in this situation again.'

' Fine, please stay calm.'

To me it seemed like years but in reality it took only three minutes for him to do his checkings. He realized that she wasn't recalling anything that happened to her and with that, he called me out for a unknown word.

' Anything unwelcoming? I impatiently asked leaning on the wall.'

' Yeah! Her temperature is so high and something's wrong with her blood. She doesn't feel like a real woman.'

'' Woman? What do you mean?'

' I mean, Errr.... You know women of this century, there growing is totally different from the ones we had back in our old days.'

' Ehemm..... Tell me exactly what you're meaning. Stop biting around the bush. You're giving me restless stupid thoughts doctor.'

' Uhhh!! Errr!!! Don't take me wrong actually. What colour of blood do we humans have?'

' Doctor, go see a psychiatrist. What kind of question is that, are you a real doctor? What is your work here then?' l furiously said storming inside not wanting to hear his next silly questions.'

' Sir!!!! Sir!!! Please hear me out for once. This thing is serious, please.'

' Go to hell. Am leaving with my daughter. You're not going to treat her again.'

' Hazel, hope you've charted with your friends enough, we're leaving, Now!!!'

' Father!!! Am not yet well recovered?'

' At home there's a very comfortable bed than this. You'll continue recovering in your bed but not here.'

' Whaaat!!! What about the.....'

' Don't worry. Am gonna do it own my own. Also Nanny Becky is there to help me too. She'll be dressing you up Incase am not around.'

' Daad!! You're being unreasonable. You can't dressed me am a big girl now. What exactly is wrong. Did l broke my ribs?'

' Sorry dear, it's nothing serious. Now, land on my back, am taking you home.'

' Noo! I can walk by myself. And Chaden can carry me too, not you, what if you trip down?'

' Fine as you wish! Boy, make sure she's well carried, l won't spare even your teeth incase she breaks one of her bones. Find me inside the car. Ziddy carry her slippers and clothes. Also, don't forget to shut your mouth.' l instructed walking out of the room leaving them still wondering on my last words.'
