As they discussed their plan, Max noticed a familiar face approaching their table—Evan's former friend, Derek. Derek had been a popular athlete, but after Evan's transformation and rise in social status, their friendship had grown strained.

"Derek," Evan greeted cautiously.

Derek's expression was conflicted. "Evan, we need to talk. I've heard some things—about you, Max, and Lila. People are saying you're involved in something dangerous."

Max felt a surge of frustration. "Derek, we're just trying to stay out of trouble. Why do you care?"

Derek hesitated, then sighed. "Because someone's been spreading rumors, and I think it's connected to the new transfer student, Adrian. He's been asking a lot of questions about you guys."

Lila's eyes narrowed. "Adrian? What do you know about him?"

Derek shrugged. "Not much. He's quiet, keeps to himself. But he seems… off. I thought you should know."

Max exchanged a glance with Lila and Evan. "Thanks, Derek. We'll look into it."

After school, the trio decided to confront Adrian and find out what he knew. They found him in the school courtyard, sitting alone with a book. As they approached, Adrian looked up, his expression calm but guarded.

"Adrian, we need to talk," Max said, trying to keep his tone neutral.

Adrian closed his book, studying them with an unsettling intensity. "I figured you'd come eventually. What do you want?"

"We want to know why you've been asking about us," Lila said, her voice firm.

Adrian smirked. "Curiosity, I suppose. You three are… different. And people talk."

Evan stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. "Cut the crap, Adrian. Who are you working for?"

Adrian's smirk faded, replaced by a cold, calculating look. "I don't work for anyone. But I have my reasons for being interested in you."

Max felt the ring pulse on his finger, sensing Adrian's hidden power. "You're not a normal student, are you?"

Adrian's eyes flickered with something dark. "No, I'm not. But I'm not your enemy either. At least, not yet."

Lila crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed. "Then what are you?"

Adrian leaned back, his gaze never leaving theirs. "Let's just say I'm an observer. I know about the Order of Shadows, the Bloodstone Ring, and your little secret meetings. I'm here to see how this all plays out."

Max's mind raced. "Why should we trust you?"

"You shouldn't," Adrian said bluntly. "But we have a common enemy. The Order of Shadows is a threat to us all. I can help you, if you let me."

Evan looked skeptical. "And why would you want to help us?"

Adrian's expression softened slightly. "Because I have my own reasons for wanting the Order gone. They've caused me… personal grief. I'm offering an alliance, temporary as it may be."

Max, Lila, and Evan exchanged glances, weighing their options. Finally, Max nodded. "We'll think about it. But if you try anything, we'll know."

Adrian stood, a hint of a smile on his lips. "Fair enough. I'll be around."

As Adrian walked away, Lila sighed. "Do you think we can trust him?"
