Unveiled (MLL)

With each mile that he passed with his car his anger turned from fury to a blinding fire to a pitch black pit of chaos. And yet the pitch black chaos was too small a word as further ahead he went, until there he stood in front of ‘Manerium Somniorum’ The manor of dreams. Standing at the gates his anger dissipated to a form of fear and melancholy. Christian knew it like he knew the back of his hand that these emotions were his. Whatever he was feeling was an aftermath of what the manor was listening in on. The walls were screaming the story that unfolded between their bricks as the windows tried to leap open, over powered by the yearning need for some kind of a void. An escape from what unfolded. The gate of the manor seemed barred from reality. Acutely preoccupied by the nightmare. Participating and escaping every word the manor screamed. Time did not exist beyond these gates. No what was left behind was simply the shadow of broken hearts. With each second that passed Christian watched a darkness descend upon the manor as thick mists of clouds and shadows formed. Untouched was the reality outside the gate but inside Manerium Somniorum dreamed. Dreamed of a heartbroken man. Echoed of an unquenchable thirst. Begged for her return. Pulling every reality into it in its desperation, whispering and moaning Christian or anyone that dared to watch to enter. Enter their dream. Dream their love. And bathe in their despair as a symphony lulled Christian into a heavy sleep. With each ticking minute the manor seemed to draw further and further away, without even realizing his eyes had closed and his body was mesmerized by her. By them. It played out again like a song, starting with a verse. A look. A pair of eyes. A shadow. As translucent darkness shone brightly around a man and interlaced with his soul. And there she stood. It was her form and her face and yet her eyes betrayed who she was. A conscious thought metaphored into her existence, standing right there under the soft glow of his lantern. Christian was the prince and the prince was chaos as their fell in love for the first time. As their skin felt the fleeting graze of her smile and their ears heard the soft whisper of her gown tease the ground. There all three souls stood as one falling in love with the same form and yet a different woman. "We were never meant for tomorrow ..." She said with a trembling voice as her hand reached out for his, so close and yet much like their fates all there was between them were dreams.

Chapter 16

Daniel watched as Christian bent down to kiss Athena's forehead, a sense of serenity and hope reflected in his eyes. Something, Daniel had never thought he would see. A smile played on Christians lips, completely transforming his face.

Daniel might not have been her real sibling, or even started as one, but he had grown to love Christian as one. But, this look worried him as much as it made him happy. Were Athena any other woman, Daniel would not have been worried but she was the future Aliqua. The prophecy queen.

Her entire life was foretold, no one except the great Mage Sino knew what was professed, nor was anyone supposed to. It was sealed with the mages soul. All anyone knew was that she was going to be the most powerful Aliqua that would ever walk on the earth. That her rise or fall in the battle of Sestiphis would write the future of the earth.

A woman like her was not someone he wanted Christian to fall for. Her lover would face nothing but doom and dismay.

Christian walked out of the room leaving behind a sleeping Athena.

"Christi…" Daniel began.

"She is the one…"

"Christian, I am glad you are finally opening up to love and I also know that Athena is extremely beautiful but… you know she is the Aliqua of the prophecy. Wouldn't it be better to choose someone less complicated? I just don't want to see you become the Christian when Summer died."

Christians jaw twitched as anger and sadness washed over the brief happiness he had felt. He did not deserve to be happy; he did not deserve to be loved. He did not deserve Athena's understanding or forgiveness.

Christian sighed and said, "You are right… I do not deserve my soul mates love. I am a monster. I do not know what I was thinking…"

"What do you mean soul mate?"

"She found the book of souls I had made."

"She what!"

"Yeah… seems Summer was not my soul mate. Turns out my soul mate was not even born yet. Turns out I could have one… and that's Athena."

"That changes things…"

"No, it doesn't. You are right I don't deserve it!"

"You fucking moron! No one in this world deserves as much happiness as you do! I merely asked you to look for another because as her guy there is nothing but destruction and doom ahead. You will have to be very strong for her, take care of her a lot, because if you fail, life as we know it will end! And I want you to have a normal uncomplicated love for once! We both know how the others ended. You were broken both the fucking times! And the third one who as it turns out is your fucking soul mate is a prophecy Aliqua who if I may be so bold to mention is the single most powerful being standing in between the end of life! She is a fucking ticking time bomb! She loses even a little control and everyone is fucked! And she doesn't even know that! So, do you fucking see the gravity of problem your fucking soul has dug you into?"

"When you put it like that…"

"Exactly! Let her read the fucking book and decide whether she wants to accept you or not, but till then you better stay as far away from her as possible! She can't see you yet, because if you are her soul mate she has dreamt about you and that means looking at you will unravel the magic veil created in her mind and rather than easing her into her memories and emotions you will completely crumble the wall and she will not be able to handle the onslaught of emotion, her powers that have been laid dormant because of the veil will reactivate and many will die! Exactly like the time her parents died! So, are we clear?"

Christian nodded and walked away. He would stay from her and try not to wallow in self-pity. He would have to be the strong wall she could lean on. Not another mess she would have to handle in her life. And that meant no more self-pity.
