I woke up super early today. Can't exactly be late now. I didn't remember the address from the top of my head but it said Burbank, so it shouldn't be too far from University of Southern California.
It was 4:40 am right now so I could get there early and as I was going to the car I pulled up the address on my phone.
"Let's get this in the gps and… wait a second… is that?" I rubbed my eyes furiously to make sure I was seeing that right.
I was going directly to Amaze Studios! Not only that but the address was for Studio 1A. The largest building owned by Bisby!
Checking my email again to see if I had it right, I saw that it was correct but there was another email in my inbox.
"Pass: EX," was the subject line. In it was a bar code and an paragraph explaining that this code was needed to get access into the front gates. After doing so, I would have to follow the guards instructions from there.
Immediately, I started the car (after putting on my seatbelt first) and connected my phone to the car to pull up the address when my speakers blasted, "RING! RRING! PICK UP THE PHONE BI-."
Smacking the answer button, I screamed a whole bunch of… not so good language.
"What's up man! You better be driving over here already," the familiar voice came through a bit muffled because of connection.
"Yeah yeah, I'm heading over already. So, you mind telling me what series this is? Is it something I know?" It was Lin on the phone. I'd assumed he was already up since he's part of the production team.
"Ahh, it's an original concept series. Listen to me okay. If you do well enough in there today, you can be a recurring extra. Remember to establish yourself well. That's the goal for you man. To come back again," Lin seemed rather excited on the phone.
"Amaze is putting out something not related to its regular brand?" I further asked, not seeming to believe it. An original concept? Does this mean they are introducing a new universe?
"It's bigger then just Amaze okay. I can't say much but just know the only reason why you are on is because you didn't want to be paid. At least that's what I told 'em," he laughed, "And believe me, they aren't just grabbing anyone from off the street. They are planning on going all out to populate this series, since they don't want to rely too much on programs."
Programs? They don't want to deal with background work then?
"I'm still not understanding this Lin, but I'll take your word for it. I'm a little lost on what you mean by "populating," I told him. Looking at the gps, I saw I was 10 minutes out. "I should be there in a bit Lin. What do you mean I have to try to establish myself?"
There was a few seconds of silence before he said, "Just know that at any point and time you can be cut out if you seem to be… out of place in the series. I can't say much, but this series emphasizes that everyone, not just extras, can be cut at any moment from the show if it'll make more sense that way. And although extras don't necessarily have a part to play, in this series, things that happen in the background can effect the story line." There was some noise in the background. People.
Sounds like something was going on before Lin ended with, "We have to get everything ready so I have to go, but one last thing man." His voice sounded serious and he whispered, "grunt."
Then cut. What does he mean grunt? "The hell?" I said in my confusion.
What does that mean? Ahh, it doesn't matter. I'll figure things out. It had sucked that I wouldn't be able to be an extra in something I knew, but I'll take solace in the fact that I would have finally taken a step in the entertainment world.
Speaking of that.
"Make a right on Ironwood Ave and the destination will be on your right," my gps said.
I was there.
