Forty-nine: I am sorry.

I am nothing, but a new vampire, no, a novice, a clueless rookie vampire who wants to know everything about another vampire who has been a vampire for a thousand years.

"It's fine." She said with a bright smile.

"Are…Are…Are you sure?" I asked as I finally raised my head to see her face.

"Yeah, I am sorry if I don't make you feel trustworthy, but I have been betrayed too many times by humans," Veronica explained as she shifted closer to me and began to pat my back.

"I am sorry too, for asking so many questions." I apologized and bowed my head again.

"No, it's fine." She said with a low tone, almost whispering, as she placed her hand on my jaw and raised my head.

"Don't worry, I will tell you when you completely become a vampire, but for now, you are still a novice, or should I say a rookie?" She asked as she withdrew her hand from my back and placed it on her jaw, pondering.

"Thank you," I said with a shaky voice and teary eyes.

"It's fine." She said with a smile as she slightly hit me twice on my shoulders and continued,

"Your friend, Elizabeth, she is coming. I shall take my leave now." She said hastily and stood up.

"Are you leaving? Now?" I asked as I Stood up too.

"Yes. I have to leave right now. She is almost close to your door. Bye.!" She said waving at me at the same time and disappeared.

I sighed the moment Lizzy opened my door without knocking.

"What is it?" Lizzy asked as she was looking around my room.

"Nothing. Why?" I asked.

"I thought I heard someone else's voice." She said with a frown, as she gave up the search, glaring straight into my eyes.

"A voice?" I asked, pretending to be confused and surprised at the same time.

"Yes." She replied, nodding at the same time.

"A voice?" I asked again, raised my shoulders, sighed and dropped them.

She nodded without saying anything.

"You heard wrong. As you can see, I am the only person here." I said and sat down on my bed.

"Are you sure there was no one here?" She asked as she sat down too.,

"No," I replied and nodded at the same time.

"Okay." She said and shrugged.

"If you say so." She added.

I just nodded and pouted at the same time, since I didn't know what else to say to her.

I just hope she doesn't see the bag that contains the empty wrappers.

She was sitting closest to the bag and would see it if she looked behind her.

No!

She just did, I hope she does not see it.

No, again.

She has seen the bag, she just did.

"What is this?" She asked as she tried to reach it.

"What?" I asked, pretending not to know what she was asking me about.

"This bag." She replied, she still hasn't reached it, she wasn't standing, she was just stretching.

"Oh, that?" I asked and she nodded.

"Don't touch it," I said as I quickly crawled towards the bag on top of the bed and reached for it.

"Why? What is that?" She asked.

"Nothing, it's nothing," I replied to her as I sat inside the bed with my legs folded across each other and I hid the bag behind me, making sure she doesn't catch a glimpse of it.

"When did you start hiding things from me?" She asked as she entered the bed fully too, she raised and shifted her body so that she can sit comfortably close to me.

"It's nothing, don't you trust me again?" I asked with a frown.

"I do, but not now." She said.

Why is everyone not trusting me today?

What have I done wrong?

"It's fine if you don't believe me. Whatever." I said and rolled my eyes.

"How can I trust you when you are obviously lying in front of me and hiding stuff? I thought we were friends, best friends." She said with a shaky voice and teary eyes.

I sighed very deeply, rolled my eyes, shrugged and said,

"Okay, Fine. I give up, you have won, you always do."

"Yes, of course. I am older, aren't I?" She asked and laughed softly.

I brought out the bag from behind me and handed it over to her.

"Take it quickly before I change my mind." I threatened her and smiled.

She snatched it from me without hesitation, opened it halfway and peek inside the bag first before opening the bag widely and having a good look at the content of the bag.

She brought out the foil paper, stretched it out, brought it close to her nose and said,

"You gave yourself a special treat."

I just nodded without saying anything.

"I can see." She said as she dipped her hand into the bag again and brought out the empty blood bag.

She was shocked at first when she saw what she was holding, but then smiled and said,

"You even had red wine in a blood bag." She returned the empty wrappers bag into the bag and continued,

"Did you go to a Halloween shop alone without inviting us?" She asked as she folded the bag and kept it on the floor, beside her.

She just gave me an opportunity to lie to her, so I am going to use it to my advantage. I will lie to her because I don't have a choice, I can't tell her about Veronica either.

I feel stuck or am I?

Maybe I am. Who knows?

I have to gain Veronica's trust too if I want her to teach me about becoming an experienced vampire.

I need Veronica too as much as I need Lizzy and the rest of my friends.

In fact, Veronica is one problem and Lizzy and the rest are another.

Back to reality,

"Yes," I replied to Lizzy, who had been patiently waiting for an answer, staring at me, straight into my eyes.

"I am sorry." I apologize in a broken voice without any emotions, but I am deeply sad and disappointed in myself.

I am actually sorry for a lot of things.

First of all, I am sorry to her for telling multiple lies straight to her face without her knowing it.

As my best friend, I am not supposed to lie to her at all. She will be very disappointed and heartbroken if she should learn about the truth and I will be a hot mess if I should tell Lizzy and Veronica's existence.

I want to be both. I want to be a vampire to Veronica and a human to Lizzy and the others.

I can be both, right?

Secondly, I am sorry for telling her that I went to a Halloween shop alone, I don't even know anyone from around here.

Wait, does she think that the blood is red wine? It has a fine scent though. It's very deceptive, until one tastes it, a vamp rather. It won't taste good or nice when a human does.

Thirdly, I am sorry to her because I can't and might never tell her about Veronica's existence.

"It's fine. I understand." She said to me with a very big and bright smile on her face.

Jerk, you are fucking dumb and selfless.

You are clueless and a novice human just as I am a clueless and novice vampire, but you are not a rookie human.

You always agree and believe anything anyone says to you.

I fucking love you.

I would love to tell her about Veronica but once again, I can't.

I am scared of Veronica.

Who knows?

She might come after me and kill me.

"Are you sure?" I asked and started to pout.

"Is there any reason why I shouldn't be sure?" She asked, still smiling.

I shook my head without saying anything with a smile.

" Good, I will help you put this rubbish in the dustbin on my way out." She said as she picked up the bag walked towards the door, stopped walking, turned around to face me and said,

"Have some rest while I am away. I might be right back." She quickly left the room and closed the door without giving me the chance to reply to her or to even say anything to her.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"None of your business." She said with a long face.

I don't want to be here anymore because I don't know what to do or to think about.

I just continued sitting there as if I was glued to my bed.

Just then, about five minutes of sitting on the bed all by myself, all alone staring into the blank space, not even being able to think about anything.

Someone knocked on the door again,

"Come in," I said at the top of my voice and waited for the person's next response.

My door knob turned and the door creaked open slightly as Raymond bent over with only his head inside my room and the rest was outside my room, at the front of my room door.

"Hey." He greeted me with a smile and asked

"May I come in?"

"Yes," I said and nodded at the same time.

"Thanks." He said as he completely opened the door, walked in and left the door wide open.

Is he leaving the door open because he is scared of me?

Does he think I might just transform into a vampire and eat him?

Is this the love he promised?

How did he come to have loved me without trusting me?

I just laughed softly and nodded at the same time.

He walked towards me and stood in front of me, staring down at me.

"What?" I asked as I raised my head to see his face so that I could look straight into his hot eyes.

He was staring back at me too, with his hot and sexy gaze.

"I came to check up on my princess." He said with a big smile and then he grinned.

"Your princess? Who?" I asked with my eyebrows raised as I was a bit confused.

"It's you, of course." He said as he placed one of his hands on my head and started to stroke my hair.

"Me?" I asked as I blushed, I tried not to show it, I don't know if my cheeks turned red because it always does when I blush because I am very bad at hiding my emotions.

"Yes." He said and nodded.

I was short of words, I just shrugged and pouted at the same time.

"May I sit?" Raymond asked.

"Yeah, sure," I said and laughed awkwardly. He said down almost immediately, smiling at me.

Damn! How did I forget to ask him to sit down?

"Are you okay?" He asked, concerned.

"Yes. Why?" I asked.

"It's because you don't look okay." He said.

"What do you mean?" I asked as I folded my arms across my chest, rolled my eyes and kissed my teeth.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I saw Elizabeth when she was leaving your room, she was looking worried, did you two fight or quarrel?" He asked.

"No," I replied and shook my head at the same time.

"So what happened?" He asked.

'I can't tell you what happened either bro. I couldn't tell my best friend, so why should I tell you?'

"Nothing much, she was just disappointed or mad at me, maybe both," I said and shrugged at the same time.

"Why? What happened?" He asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked as I thought I had already satisfied his curiosity.

"What I mean is…. How should I put this? Okay, why is she disappointed or mad at you?" He finally asked.

I hope my next reply will satisfy his curiosity.

"I bought meat and wine and ate it all by myself without inviting her in. I actually didn't involve her in any" I replied to him.
