Prologue: Perplexity (2)

"Miss Kim," Mr. Cole called out, which snapped me out of my reverie and back to reality.

I looked at him timidly as he shot his gorgeous smile that can light up one's entire world from what others say.

Tsk, not my world.

"Congratulations on your constant success." He cheered gleefully with loud clapping that the other officials followed suit.

I forgot that I'm in a board meeting to discuss the well-being of the company.

I as well might change it to "bored meeting" if you know what I mean.

"May this be the beginning of the new era." Mr. Reed proclaimed, signaling for a toast.

"Oh dear, you have grown old." Mrs. Perez chuckled, "You said that months ago when she became the

CEO."

"I will say it over and over again." He laughed, and the others followed.

They clunked their glasses and sipped some of their Cabernet Sauvignon.

Not until I fail, I suppose.

I sipped a little and stood up, which made everyone glance at me.

"Leaving so soon?" Mr. Kim was interrogated as he put down his glass.

I nodded, then bowed and walked my way to the door. I heard their praises and admiration not just for me but also for the man who asked.

"That's why I chose her."

The last thing I heard from my father before leaving the room.

On my way to my office, my secretary was waiting outside with his head bowed to my surprise.

I cleared my throat, "What's the matter?"

"A guest entered without permission, Ma'am." He answered in a shaky tone.

I sighed, which made him face me with fear.

"Please don't fire me." He gulped with tears about to fall.

Peace

The only thing I feel right now while being in this chaotic world.

I'm sitting on this wingback chair, playing with my rubrics cube, waiting for someone to end this misery.

"Detective Harper," Mr. Sprouse called out as soon as he opened the door, "Here is — where is she?"

He only noticed me now?

I looked at him annoyed, but the files in his hands caught my attention before I could argue,

"What are those?"

"Since when did a question become an answer to a question?" He retorted.

"Just now," I answered casually and continued playing.

I heard him scoff and laid the files on my aunt's desk, then left.

I smirked, then put down the already assembled rubrics cube and sat down on my aunt's swivel chair as I took a look at the files.

These cases are funny. I mean, someone filed a theft at a donut shop because of a raccoon? No wonder people stereotyped police officers as donut lovers.

I flipped through every page on a file and threw it aside, then repeated.

This job is getting boring. Not a single file caught my attention: no new cases, only paperwork.

I timidly stood up, gathered the files from the floor, and stacked them neatly on my aunt's desk before Rudolph showed up with his red nose.

"Just as I thought, you were reading them."

Oops? Not sorry.

"I know you helped in solving some cases here but that doesn't mean that you have any right to read them without anyone handing them out to you." He grunted.

"It was most of the cases." I corrected him as I sat again on my aunt's chair, "I helped a lot since people here are

getting fatter eating donuts every time they want."

His nose always turns red every time he gets mad, and it's a coincidence that his name is Rudolph.

Did his parents know he was a reincarnation of an infamous reindeer when naming him?

Boring?

Skip!!! You're wasting the book's time -.-
