Unbefitted to be a hero

In this world, there is a wall, a border that separates the world of the human and the world of the higher beings aka superhumans. SuperHuman awakened their powers through a System, a square box-like projection that shows the name and uses, as well as the levels of their powers. Anyone who is awakened however will be forcefully dragged into the world of the superhumans thus separating them from peers and family members. An 18 year old, just turned adult man, Apollo awakened his first superpower abruptly. After saving a kid from being rammed hard by a heavy metal truck. Apollo found himself awake in a hospital room questioned by a woman before falling unconscious again. The very next thing he sees, is the ceiling from an unfamiliar place, in an unfamiliar room. But he knew he have been separated from his family. In order to see his family again he needs to leave or escape this place, but first he needs to adapt and train his newly awakened power.

The World of The Humans

Superpowers, something that every kid has dreamt of, imagined and wished that they themselves have the ability to do what the people in superhero cartoons can do. Around 30 years ago, someone manifested it, the ability to wield a superpower and that someone's name is called Zodd or better known as The Ruler Between The Two Worlds. He was the first ever person to wield a superpower but he wasn't depicted or known as a SuperHero like from the movies or cartoons, instead he was known as a rather dictatorial person. His superpower was telekinesis, the ability to move objects from afar without interacting with said object. Around 5 years later, after the birth of his superpower, others would too gain the ability to wield their own superpower.

Those with powers would see a bow-like projection that only they themselves could see, which is known as System. System is a box-like projection that states the names, the uses, the function as well as levels of their superpowers. Which meant that their superpowers can be further improved and maximized to their fullest capabilities through constant physical and mental training alongside the help given by the System. Superpowers can be obtained through heredity where a superpower which a person in the family wields gets passed to the future generation or superpowers can be awakened through sheer luck no matter the age or gender, though it is uncommon.

After the birth of other SuperHumans, Zodd believed to be bitter and angry that they were others like him that too wield superpowers, built a wall that borders the two worlds. The two worlds are the normal humans and the SuperHuman, and the wall was built to separate the two, from interacting with one another. Anytime a SuperHuman awakened in the world of the normal humans, they would be forcefully dragged to the world of the SuperHumans AKA world of the higher beings as Zodd would call them.

On one particular morning, I woke up to a square projection in front of my face. I was astonished at first. I pinched my face real hard, thinking I was dreaming but I wasn't. I received a SuperPower! :D I tried touching the project with my hand, which went right through the projection. 'Woah it really just is a projection' I thought then. I read the name of my SuperPower.

Name: Wings(lvl1)

'How Bland' Was the thing that came right to my mind when I saw that name. I know what it does just by looking at it. I thought it would be cooler, something like Freedom Wings or flight. Okay maybe it wasn't as cool as I thought, but it's still bland, then I looked at the uses right below it.

Uses: Flight(lvl1)

'No shit' I thought. Flying was something I've always wanted to do. Imagine the breezy wind blowing and brushing against your hair and your skin. It would be single handedly the most amazing thing for me to experience. Also imagine how cool it would be to do tricks with your wings, imagine doing a 180 flip mid-air, now that's unheard of. I then looked at the level of my superpower.

Level: 1

'Fair enough' I thought. I mean I just awakened my superpower, so not really a surprise. I still remember myself being so excited, that my heart might just die from it skipping so many beats. I couldn't bear the excitement alone, so when someone yelled for my name from downstairs, I responded instantaneously. 'Finally someone to brag to.' I thought.

I rushed down towards the sound of my mom yelling at me to eat breakfast. I rushed down the staircase, each step growing louder in parallel to my excitement growing larger. When I reached downstairs, I came upon a loving breakfast and a lovely family, my mom, my dad, and my younger brother only one year younger than me. Each one has a bright smile on their face. "Guess what happened to your oldest son!" I said excitedly.

"What is it Dear?" my mom asked.

"I got a superpower!" I quickly responded, thinking they would be excited and joyful with me. However, contrary to my expectation, my mom's face dropped, her eyes widened in shock and not the happy kind. "What is it?" I said disappointingly.

"..." She paused for a second before responding. "Nothing sweetie. Just that…" She said, not knowing how to respond appropriately, which to be honest there wasn't any appropriate response then. "I don't want you to be separated from us." Then the cruel and harsh reality struck me, my excitement for my own superpower completely overshadowed the fact that anyone with SuperPowers would be dragged and separated to the world of the higher beings.

'But they wouldn't know I have it if I don't use it.' was the first method of avoiding segregation that I thought of. 'But what's the point of having a superpower then?' It has always been my dream to have superpowers, to have powers similar to the people in cartoons and movies, to be famous and loved by the people, I don't want to lose either of that. Whether it'd be not being able to use my powers or to be segregated to a whole culturally different place, separated from friends and family.

I was shaken up a bit. Not knowing how to respond. I wanted to accept it but deny it at the same time. It wasn't like in the past thirty years that anyone has ever escaped The World Of The Higher Beings, there were news headlines about it, but there wasn't any concrete, solid evidence that proves it has ever happened.

Disappointed by this "revelation", my excitement dropped to a non-existent level and I didn't respond but I am sure that my facial expression then revealed everything that was on my mind because my mom didn't say anything after taking a look at my face. I ate my food on the table while my brother sloops up everything that was on his plate ignoring the things mom has said or the fact simply didn't render fully in his brain yet. My dad just sat there reading the newspaper nonchalantly as if nothing like his son getting a superpower had just occurred in front of him.

After Breakfast, I went outside for a walk, not sure what was the point then just that it was what i wanted. I walked along my neighborhood listening to the calm sound of kids playing at the playground and the nice melody that the bird chirped, the sounds of cars driving against the rough concrete pavement, the disgusting smell of gas coming out from cars. 'I don't have to hear it anymore, if I can fly.' I thought. I walked and walked, organizing my emotions and thoughts in an orderly manner.

Then a loud beeping sound coming from a truck a couple yards in front of me, interrupted my thinking. I looked annoyed at the loud beeping only to see a kid, running from a pathway to another through a zebra crossing about to be rammed by a heavy metal truck. Everything seemed to slow down at the time because of the adrenaline rushing through every ounce of my body. I didn't think I wanted to save the kid then, just that I only needed a reason to use powers, a reason that is enough to justify me using the power.

Then my back muscles shapeshifted and morphed into a pair of wings. Manifesting a flock of feathers, beautifully shaped, perfectly symmetrical from the left to the right, the fluffiness and whiteness of the feathers just like the clouds in the sky, appeared from my back. Tearing off my white shirt into several pieces, scattered all across the concrete pavement I was walking on. Then my wings flapped, blowing all the scattered, torn-up pieces of my shirt into several directions. Then I flew, and that's all that I remembered. I didn't know if I saved the boy or not.

The last thing I remembered from that day was the concerned talk from my mom, and both my dad and brother looking at me, concerned for my health. Back then, I could still faintly hear the beeping sounds from a heart machine right beside me, while I was laying barely conscious on a very uncomfortable mattress. Immediately after that, I heard the sounds of my mother yelling as she was being pulled outside as well as Dad and brother.

The sounds of multiple footsteps barging reverberated throughout the thick walls of the room. However there was a tip-tapping sound, a sound that would usually come from high-heel shoes, overshadowing all other sounds. I did not know why my senses chose to focus on those sounds, and I still do not know now. But a lady in an office suit, wearing a black skirt up to the knees and white formal shirt as well as a black tie. I could be wrong though, everything was blurry then. She asked me something, like questions. I've forgotten what the questions were except when I finished answering them, I fell right back to sleep.

Next thing I see, was a bland white concrete wall or ceiling. Up or down, I don't know. I stand up and look around me, it isn't the hospital anymore. But I immediately know that I am in the World Of The Higher Beings, before I can even say goodbye to my family. The room is brightly lit up and there are curtains, where sunlight barely shines through. I open the curtains and to my surprise, I see tall buildings and flying balloons but nothing is as exceptional as the gigantic wall sitting behind all the tall buildings and small houses. The wall sat at a height of 500 meters spanning and surrounding the entire region of the World Of The Higher Beings.

It has been talked about how big, tall and wide the wall was but to see it in person was astonishing. I leave the room, still processing what has happened to me, the separation from my family, my powers. I think a part of me was slightly excited about my new life, about the chance to become a superhero though most for the most part, I was depressed that I may or may not see my family again. I opened the door connecting my room to the hallway outside, and to my surprise they were others like me sitting outside of their rooms, right against the door. They look depressed for the most part, their eyes devoid of any tears however they were red. Some are crying, wiping their tears and can be heard from within their own rooms.

Then a loud banging sound that came from one end of the hallway. We look towards the banging sound.

Someone stood there, behind them were a set of stairs. That someone is a man, dressed quite bizarrely, like a superhero, with weird symbols and unique aesthetics that actually fitted him quite well. The man then says, "My dear friends, welcome. To the World Of the Higher Beings." He bows then continues, "Please follow me, as I guide you through this new world."
