Distorted world

My name is Angel Chern. I grew up in a family of four: my mother, Grete Chern, my father, Steve Chern and my brother, Adom Chern. Sadly, my mother passed away some time ago. My father is currently working as a police officer. My future aspirations? To become an officer of the law, just like my father.

Oh, what a load of idealistic crap, I hate having to pretend to be an example student, son and citizen. It’s a massive bother for how little it’s actually worth.

My name is Angel Chern and I’m “The Reaper.” I wish I could say this to the entire world. I punish criminals for all the evil they commit. I am a silent hero, yet nobody knows and nobody realizes. And I’m forced to live another boring day of my boring old life as just another boring university student, disgusting…

What’s more disgusting is this rotten world full of rotten selfish scum who only take and take and take everything they can from everyone they can and never dare to even think about bothering to give anything. I despise them, such vile criminals who get so accustomed to taking that they take lives, and I know that in a way I’m one of them, I know that I myself am disgusting, but hey at least I bother to give. I give the would be victims of these vile criminals a life that they otherwise wouldn’t have.

And thus, with such a high morning note, I approach the beginning of another boring day of my boring life as a university student. Another day when I kept all of this to myself. Another boring day of me silently detesting this cruel world from afar.

But as I approached the university gates, I got a feeling that today was going to be a different day from the rest. A day that I will remember for the rest of my boring old life. Today was going to be special…

Right beside the gate there stood a tall man that I had seen somewhere before, a private investigator by the name of Thanos Asinus, a major pain in the ass and an absolute maniac.

“Hello, may I have a word with you”, said Thanos Asinus in a pretending friendly tone. I’m not sure why he’s here, but this can’t be good.

“Sure”, I replied while trying not to seem anxious.

“Perfect, let’s go somewhere private…” Thanos Asinus said in a playful tone.

“… My dear reaper”, he continued and took the lead, implying I should follow him….

In reality, I had no other option. He knows, he knows who I am. My only real option right now is to get him somewhere private and kill him. That’s the only way. There is no other option.

I got so taken away by my thoughts that I didn’t even realize we were heading towards an old park. We walked for about 5 minutes until we reached a small, long forgotten fountain with a couple of benches beside it. There were no people around. The park was drenched in a void.

Thanos Asinus stood up on the edge of the fountain, towering over me. His gaze spelled out deep disgust and hatred. He looked like he was about to kill me. I didn’t want to admit it, but I was terrified.

Before I could get my bearings back, Thanos said, “So I’ve got a killer in my hands. What ever shall I do with you? Let me think, have you heard the story about a little girl named Luci?” he asked in a satirical, almost cynical tone.

“When Luci was a little girl, something terrible had happened to her. This life-changing event made her into a scared, distorted individual. I don’t think anyone could ever change her back. She will, for the rest of her life, remain to be a cold and heartless person…

It happened when she was just twelve years old. She was living a normal, peaceful life like any other child. She had a happy family, loving parents and a little brother who she adored more than anything in the world. She was doing well at school, although she never had many friends.

She came from a fairly wealthy family, her father, was a well-known lawyer, helping innocent people get out of situations that they didn’t deserve to be in, her mother was a doctor at a private hospital, constantly working for free, helping people who couldn’t afford proper health care. She always thought that they were good people, but just like a coin has two sides, people are almost never what they seem at first glance. Her parents are no exception…

She remembered that day like it was yesterday. It was a calm winter morning. Even though the sun was out, it was abnormally cold. It was snowing for the last couple of days, so the fields, trees and roads near her house were completely covered in white. To her, as a kid, this seemed magical.

That day, she woke up a lot earlier than she usually did. Instead of laying in bed for another hour, she decided to go have some early breakfast. On her way down the stairs, she heard the doorbell ring. She opened the door, and there she was, a tall and slender woman dressed in black. The moment Luci saw her, she thought she was beautiful. She was both elegant and graceful. Her long, dark hair and attractive facial features made her look like she was ripped straight out of a magazine.

Upon noticing Luci, this woman gently smiled and said, “Hello there, are, by chance, your parents’ home?”. “Yes, give me a moment, I’ll go get them”, Luci said and went to wake them up. Upon turning my back to her, she remembered thinking that her smile somehow seemed twisted, malicious, and sadistic. She couldn’t shake away the feeling that something was wrong.

The woman had this air around her, a cruel yet gentle atmosphere that made him look like some sort of monarch among measly peasants, not even fit to lick her shoes. It was strange, but when she was beside her, she somehow felt safe…

Upon waking both of her parents, Luci told them about the strange guest that showed up on their doorstep. They said they didn’t seem to know this person and got angry at her for not asking for their name in the first place. Regardless, they told her to sit her down in the living room and ask her to wait while they get ready.

And just as they said, she went downstairs and escorted the woman into the living room. It felt awkward to ask her now, but Luci knew she had to do it. “umm, miss, what’s your name”, Luci said in a shy and breathy tone. “Ann”, the stranger said and smiled at her.

But that’s when she really woke up. It was dark, damp, and cold. Luci found herself blindfolded. It was a big and empty room. She could tell by the strange noise echoing off the walls. It almost seemed like some lonely animal she’ve never heard before asking for attention, but then she could also hear faint laughter. Luci was confused. It took her a while to understand what was going on, but then it hit her. The loud noises echoing throughout the room were the agonizing screams of her parents as their mouths were being sewn shut with wires…

The laughter suddenly stopped. She heard footsteps, those terrific footsteps that she knew would haunt her dreams for the rest of her life…

-Luci, how pleasant of you to join us

As the sound of impending footsteps kept getting louder and louder, Luci trembled. She contemplated about how she ended up here. Why did she make the mistake of trusting this woman? Luci wondered if she was really going to die here.

When the footsteps stopped, the woman made a slight pause, as if deciding upon how she was going to kill Luci. To her, this moment of silence must have been fairly brief, but to Luci It seemed like an eternity.

She took the blindfold off of Luci, and there she was, with her pale elongated alien-like face with a massive, disproportionate mouth and eyes so big they’re about to pop out of their sockets, her veiny skin as pale as snow smeared with blood, her long hair was no longer black, it had a red tint to it from all the blood she was soaked in. she reached out and put her misshapen, crooked hand on Luci’s forehead and just for a moment, for a single second, she faintly resembled the person Luci saw when they first met.

Behind her was the dead body of her once beloved brother, disgraced and cut open like he was some sort of animal. Even farther back were Luci’s parents, with their mouths sewn shut, with her brother’s organs inside of them.

“Luci, don’t look at me like that. Your parents were sinful people, but you, you are innocent. How about it, I can offer you a deal, kill them and I let you go.” Ann said to Luci in the middle of a blank and psychotic stare. She might as well could have agreed to it, but instead, she tried to take her own life with the knife the woman gave her. But she failed. The woman took the knife away and locked her inside with the decaying copse of her dead brother and half-dead parents.

2 weeks later, Ann came back. She was astounded to find Luci still alive by feeding on her dying parents to survive. To Ann, this was a sign of fate itself. She immediately took Luci under her wing, or so the story goes.

But you know it better than I do. Isn’t that right, Angel?”

I began to shiver. There was no doubt, If I attacked him now, I would be the one who got killed. I could tell just by looking at his tall, imposing manner, he was the one, the only one who could disturb my peaceful, quiet life.

He continued, “My dear Angel, I have a proposition. Why don’t you and me play a game? Let’s call it murder number #16. How do I put this? You kill me before I kill Alice.”

The moment he said those words, I became enraged. All of my fear evaporated and turned into fury. I charged at Thanos knocking him down on the ground and swing at him, but before I could land my first hit he dodged, grabbed me by my hair and with an incredibly strong grip pulled my head back, The moment I realized what was going on it was too late, his knife was already at my throat.

“not yet”, He said while making a smile so ominous you could mistake him for the devil.

Just a few moments later, he pulled on my hair yet again, knocking me off of him.

Just before leaving, he paused and said: “I’m sure you know who I am. I’m also sure you know what motivates me. Therefore, you know that there’s no way to stop me. So be a good boy and show me something… exciting…”

“… You have 3 days…”

“… before Alice dies,”
