How was your calculus class ? " Alex asked me as we ate during lunch time.

" It was.. " I started but stopped as my phone beeped

I hope I'm not disturbing you with my lines but you know Cheryl isn't a good listener so you are stuck with me .. but only if it's fine with you.

I smiled so hard my mouth could fall off. I clicked on the reply

It's fine I'm not doing much, just having lunch with my friend. You probably don't know her but it's fine. You can send your lines to me Adam, no problem

I sent it and then dropped my phone on the table before drinking from my glass of smoove before someone banged the table.

" Why did you do that ? " I asked Alex as I cleaned the spilled drink from my face

" You are keeping a secret " she stated

" You are keeping a secret too alex and I'm not keeping anything " I said to her

" Am I keeping a secret ? " She asked

" Ask yourself that. What's up with you and cole " I asked her.

" Well he asked me out " she said with a giggle.

" And I'm the last person on earth to find out. " I said with a frown.

" No I swear nobody knows. He asked me out this morning and I was going to tell you at lunch which is now " she said with a sad look.

" It's fine Alex. We haven't been close these days " I muttered

" That's not true betty. I love you and I don't keep anything from you. " She stated and I couldn't help but smile.

" It's fine then. Just tell me things " I said and she nodded her head

" Now you were blushing. Who texted you ? " She asked.

" Adam " I said plainly.

" Wait you didn't tell me what happened at your date and are you guys like dating now ? " She asked

" It wasn't a date but we studied for the last time and no we are not dating " I said

" Then why do you sound so sad saying it. Do you like him ? " She asked

" Yes " I whispered.

" I can't hear you " she said with a sly smile.

" Yes " I said biting my lips

" Still nothing " she yelled

" I said yes " I increased my voice

" What is yes ? " Cole said as he came to our seat. I eyed him.

" Hey babe " he said and then pecked Alex's cheek, I will never get used to this

" Hi " alex blushed and I groaned

" I'm going to my next class " I said and packed my things.

" Lunch is not over yet " Cole stated.

" I know that but I can't sit around you guys for another minute or I'm afraid I'd throw up " I said and carried my bag.

" But I just got here " Cole said.

" More reason why I should leave " I said rolling my eyes.

" Okay then. But I know it's just an excuse. I'm going to see what's on your phone and we are going to talk about that yes after school too. " Alex said and winked at me.

" If you say so " I said and then waved at them before exiting the lunch room to God knows where.

" What's the yes about ? " I heard Cole ask Alex as I left.

ADAM:

" Till when are you just going to text her ? " Cheryl asked me with her hands on her hips

" What do you mean ? " I asked her back

" I know you like eliza " she said and then sits beside me.

" How is mum ? " I asked her.

" Well she is sleeping now " she stated. I'm glad she was getting better now after we removed the machines. The doctor said after this week she was going to start moving her body again and soon she will be good as new.

" That's good. You should get some sleep too, you haven't closed your eyes for three days " I said to her

" You too Adam. " She said

" I'm fine I promise " I said and smiled.

" When last did I see you smile. " She said and held my hands.

" When last did I see you smile " I countered and she chuckled. I missed hearing the sound of her laughter.

" There that's the spirit " I grinned and pulled her in for a hug.

" I'm glad mum is fine. I know she wasn't all that nice but I still can't do without her. " She whispered.

" We both can't do without her. " I said and broke the hug. " But she is getting better now. Soon she will be good as new " I said and touched her cheek.

" Yes I can't wait " she whispered again. " So you like eliza " she stated and smiled.

" Why are we back to this conversation ?. You never give up do you ? " I asked her and then chuckled

" Never you know. So tell me, does she like you too " she asked curiously.

" I don't think so. She likes Shawn " I stated with a frown

" Oh.. but how did you know that ? " She asked me.

" Shawn likes her " I stated

" But you like her too " she stated

" But Shawn has never fallen in love " I said

" You have never fallen in love either. " She said

" Would you stop it ? " I said.

" And you never go a day without getting laid " she said and I frowned

" Sorry but we girls have our ways but that's not the point " she said. " But adam it's been months since you last got laid " she said.

" That's not because of elizabeth " I lied

" You and I both know that's a lie. Adam you don't just like her, you are in love with her. And I know you love Shawn too and you feel he should get elizabeth but adam it's not your call or Shawn's call to decide. It's Eliza's. " She stated and touched my hand.

" But Shawn likes her " I said again.

" Yes he does but you do too. Elizabeth can go ahead and pick who she wants but till then you will just be the adam you are and fight for what you want. Both you and Shawn have the right over her till she finally picks one of you. " She added

" So adam shoot your shot and make her fall in love with you. Don't just sit here and smile at her text messages. " She finished and then stood up.

" I don't know how to do that " I whispered

" Oh shut up, you are Adam, the most popular guy in school. Girls throw themselves at you. You will know that to do don't worry " she stated and I smiled.

" I think I will take up your advice on that sleep. " She said and yawned before opening the room door

" Cheryl " I called and she stopped.

" Thank you " I added and she smiled.

" Anything big brother. Now go make me proud " she said then left for the room.

A smile lingered on my face more than usual as I pick my phone up again, ready to text Elizabeth again. I really hope she likes me

ELIZABETH:

I made my way to the school parking lot after the bell for closing rang because I will be riding with cole and Alex today after school. Mum will be busy with meeting the executives today and she is also likely to come home late.

As soon as I exit the school, I sighted Alex and Cole leaning on Alex's black car as she laughed out. Cole was talking so I guess he was saying something funny, their relationship just started and yet I already feel lonely. I sigh and walk up to the car.

" Hey " I said softly and smile at them.

" Glad to see you finally showed up. " Alex said and rolled her eyes.

" If you had walked out of that door few minutes late we would have actually ditched you " Cole said.

" Haha very funny. " I says sarcastically before opening the back door. I sat inside and then brought my phone out

I heard Alex say bye to Cole and then sound of them kissing before she entered the car with a huge grin plastered on her face.

" This is the best day of my life " she yelled and held the steering wheel.

" You might want to put the keys in before you know... Start the car " I said with an amused expression.

" Oh yes that's true " she said and I chuckled as I watched her search her school bag for her car keys

" Do you like him that much ? " I asked the obvious

" Yes I do. I like him " she said before starting the car. It jerks forward as she reversed out of the school parking lot into the main road.

" Then I'm happy for you " I said with a grin.

" I'm happy for me " she stated and then focused on the road.

I smiled and looked away from her, focusing on my phone minutes after minutes, yes I'm waiting for Adam to text me even if it's about one dumb project. He hasn't texted me since lunch.

" Do you want to listen to music ? " Alex asked me as she switched on the music

" Yes " I whispered and as soon as the music starts, ' shout out to my ex ' by little mix plays and we both sing along.

" You know your phone would be feet's under the ground if looks could kill " she muttered staring at me from the rear mirror.

I smiled and then tucked my phone into my bag before I go crazy.

" What about you ? " She asked me all of a sudden .

" What do you mean ? " I asked her

" I'm saying what about you ?. Do you like him that much too ? " She asked.. I'm taken back by her question as I stared at her with a shocked expression

" Who " I muttered

" You know who " she said.

" I don't know. I like him " I stated

" Do you think he likes you too ? " She asked

" What's with the awkward questions ? " I asked her back.

" Nothing. I just wanted to make sure you are fine " she said

" I'm okay. I don't know if he likes me. " I said

" Okay then. Do you want to grab dinner ? " She asked me

" Turkey ? " I asked with a grin

" Turkey " she agreed and smiled at me before she turned the car into the direction of the diner.

With her eyes focused on the road now, I fiddled with my fingers at the back seat. I don't even know what I'm doing again. When the hell did I have the chance to fall in love with him.

" Hi mum " I greeted as I entered the house. After Alex and I had dinner we decided to sit in the car to chat for a while about boys and all. Till I finally decided to enter the house.

She looked at me and waved before giving me a soft smile because she was currently speaking on the phone about something. She was pacing around the house while I just stood beside the door

I hanged my coat on the cloth rack beside the door and then pull my boots off before slipping my legs into my slippers and then I walked into the kitchen, took a glass cup and then I poured myself a drink before walking back to the parlor with the glass in my hand.

" Hey baby " mum said as she dropped the phone she was holding earlier.

" Hi " I said with a smile and then walked up to her and I hugged her.

" How was school today ? " She asked me

" Well it was normal. " I stated with my mouth in a thin line

" That's okay. " She said.

" How was work ? " I asked her

" It's going just great. " She said and I nodded

" Why don't you go and freshen up then, dinner will be done in twenty minutes " she said

" Okay mum " I said and then began the journey up the stairs.

" Uhmm Elizabeth " mum called again and I turned to look at her. Mum almost never calls my name so I'm more curious than ever to hear what she had to say.

" Uhmm there is this thing with work " she started and I nodded her head, telling her to continue.

What's so hard for her to tell me that she is taking so much time.

" I..so I have to go to a conference " she said and I smiled.

" So, then go mum. It's not a big deal, you go everyday right " I said

" No it's not here, it's in another state " she said

" It's fine, as long as you will be back before night time then it's okay. Why are you so serious ? " I said

" It's... I'm not going to be back in a day " she said and I looked at her

" What are you saying mum, when are you going to be... Why are you going so far ? " I asked her, my voice shaking

I can't be alone, what if he finds me

" Honey it's for a week. " She said and it was like my heart stopped beating.

" A week ? " I asked her with shaky voice.

" Yes it's a week. I promise to call you every single second " she said

" When are you leaving ? " I asked her

" Uhmm. Tomorrow " she said and then frowned.

" Tomorrow ? " I yelled out .. " you are leaving tomorrow, for a week and you didn't tell me " I yelled.

" Honey "

" When were you going to tell me ? " I asked her

" I was going to tell you. I don't want to leave you here either but If I don't go this time, I might get fired " she said

" But you know I can't be alone. I just stared... " I said and my voice broke.

" You will be fine, he won't find you, I will protect you " mum whispered.

" How ?. How do you expect to protect me all the way from " I stopped . " From wherever it is you are going ? " I added.

" Mum what if he finds me .. what if he finds you " I yelled. " You promised that we would never spend days apart " I said

" Honey I " she said and I hurriedly climbed the stairs, holding back the tears that threatened to fall. I entered my room and slammed the door shut before pulling the lock.

How was I going to stay here for a week. How?. Why didn't she tell me earlier?. What if I start having nightmares again. What if he finds me. What if he finds mum.

Maybe I had started to let my guards again, what do I do?. I don't know that to do. I kept pacing around my room as I fought the tears back. I will not cry.

My phone beeped and I picked it up to check the message.

Adam

I do not know what love is but if wanting to see someone badly, if wanting to kiss someone dearly, if wanting to make someone smile wholeheartedly is love then so be it, I love you.
