CHAPTER 12: WHAT THE ….?

Have you ever had the feeling that something is going on but you can't figure out what it is?

She'd felt this foreboding dread for a week and was becoming a little spooked out.

Avita was in a good mood, especially after coming from Sinazolengwe, where she had a good time and made a lot of money.

She not only purchased an expensive phone, but she also expanded her limited wardrobe with new clothes, jewelry, bags, and shoes.

She also took a free vacation to another nation, where she did not spend a single penny.

Avita also benefited from free airtime and an additional OWD 5,000 as recompense for being unable to plait people over the long weekend.

Her perks for this long weekend were more than OWD 100,000, and it was the first time she had spent so much money on herself in such a short period.

She had already spent thousands of Drynis on tuition, which did not count. Avita was delighted as a result of the trip, and everyone at work noticed.

However, something was off from Monday to Friday.

Everyone seemed to be distancing her even more than before, which she ignored. After all, her co-workers barely cared for her before.

She had been assigned a large amount of work that required her to work overtime. It appeared that she was being bullied, and the supervisor didn't seem to care.

The end of the month was approaching, and Avita was terrified. She didn't want her salary taken away for any reason. So, she didn't complain and went about her business as normal.

After all, such behavior was common in other workplaces, and she was too timid to protest. Her job was too important to her, and she didn't want to lose it.

This Friday was also a big day for them because they were getting their paychecks, which they were all looking forward to.

Every salary was deposited into the employees' bank accounts, but on payday, everyone had to sign to confirm that they had received or seen their pay.

Avita received her communication from the bank about four o'clock. However, she was perplexed as to why she was paid more than her usual salary.

[You have received OWD 5,855 from *********. OSHUA BANK LTD.]

Avita couldn't ask her colleagues because they were alienating her, so she had to go and ask the senior Accountant when she had to sign before knocking off.

'What the............?'

‘Damn! What exactly is going on here?'

Avita didn't want to think about it too much, but when she noticed how her colleagues were looking at her with glee, she began to suspect that something was certainly wrong here.

Soon, the time for employees to begin signing arrived, and everyone began to leave the workplace one by one.

Avita was the last one to go, and although her heart was racing madly and she had a dreadful sensation that an awful moment was about to strike her, she pushed herself to go to that office.

Knock knock knock

"Get in!" said a mature woman as she knocked on the door.

Avita admired the lady who was their other boss with all her heart. She was well-versed and an excellent teacher. She wasn't stingy with her knowledge, and Avita as a person learned a lot from her.

"Please come and sit!" exclaimed the senior accountant.

Avita entered the room with trepidation and sat on the chair facing the other lady.

Avita remained silent and waited for the senior to speak first.

The senior accountant glanced at Avita, felt sorry for her, but knew something had to be done, and spoke up.

"I'm sure you're wondering why your pay has suddenly increased!"

"Yes, I was going to ask about this," Avita replied, nodding her head. "Did something go wrong?"

She didn't want to be characterized as a petty thief or as someone who lacked morals.

"There was no error made. This is the directive from up high. I'm afraid I have some bad news for you," the elderly lady murmured miserably as she shoved a document toward Avita.

Avita became fearful of the unknown after hearing the dreadful news, yet she nevertheless accepted the document and began reading.

She was at a loss for words after reading the passage twice. "Is this final?" she questioned dully, looking at the senior accountant.

"I'm afraid that's the case. The company has fired you with immediate effect, Avita. I have delivered your whole severance and compensation package to you. The ……………”

It was all very surreal, and she didn't want to believe anything she had just heard in that office.

But when she was confronted with an office like this, she realized the truth; 'I have been truly fired!'

"Umphhh, who knew such a day would come!"

"To be honest, I'm happy. I'll never have to spend my time with this person again!"

"A slutty person pretending to be holier than thou."

“Good riddance!”

Avita wanted to cry, but she couldn't.

'Good girls never cry!'

And she wasn't going to let these folks rejoice because she was crying. So, she disregarded their jeers and began to empty up her desk, figuring that now that she'd been fired, there was no need for her to keep her belongings at the office.

Her old coworkers did not leave, but instead waited for her, or should she say watched her pack as if they were keeping an eye on a thief.

Avita didn't keep much at the office, so a little box was soon packed and she was ready to get the hell out of there.

She didn't bother saying farewell to them because she knew it was their fault that this had happened to her.

She didn't have proof, and even if she did, it wouldn't help her because she would just lose and gain nothing in the end.

As she walked out of the office, the peacock of a man she despised suddenly blocked her path and gloatingly told her, "In this world, money and connections rule. Paupers like you can only suffer silently and do not dare to fight back. Know how to bend the next time you're in the same circumstance!"

While Avita was in so much pain and agony as a result of the injustice that had just occurred to her.

In a big office, a man faced the floor-to-ceiling window with his back to another man.

"How did it all go?"

"It has been resolved, Sir. She's been fired!"

"Huhu, that's fine. I suppose we should go to the next level."

"I'll get to work on it, Sir!"
