Awakening
Today is the day I take the awakening test. Let's pray I get at least a D-ranked skill.
"Jason Elrod please come to the examination room." Said the receptionist in a voice that wasn't loud but still spread throughout the entire room I guess that's a skill she pocess but anyway that's me. Walking to the examination room while passing all these potential awakened whispering about all the glory they might receive or all the guilds that would want them if got a good awakening rank while thinking about what rank skill I might receive made the 10 second walk feel like an eternity "Welcome sir Elrod please put your hand on this crystal ball and it will give state your awakening rank and what skill you have received."

"Sir Elrod do you mind telling us what that skill of yours does?" asked the receptionist in a voice that seemed weirdly nice and seemed to demand trust.
<I'm still learning how to use the status screen but it says that the skill gives me knowledge about animals I meet.> I said dejected about the low rank I was given and my useless skill but what can I do the system decides what tank and skill humans receive all I can do now is hope a guild or party is willing to bring me with them to dungeon with them and hope i can level up and receive a new skill that's better and more suited to exploring a dungeon. Ok so as an awakened the government pays for my monthly expenses for the first 3 months but anything after that I have pay for my self so I have to accomplish as much as I can in the next 3 months so I can pay for my rent and buy food if the government stops doing it for me. While walking home and using my Vphone which replaced iPhones a few years back to try and get myself into a F-rank dungeon to kill a few goblins and get a few mana crystals to sell for money to buy food and supplies and some soul points to get my level up a bit I ran into a stray cat and decided to try out my skill on it to see what it does and how it works because knowing what I'm capable of is of the utmost importance looking at the black cat with strange blue eyes that was staring at me I gave the mental command to activate my skill and was greeted with a golden status screen similar to the ones us awakened would get when checking on our progress it read

This seems interesting it seems that there isn't more information because the skills level is too low.
<But why are you so cute little guy do you wanna come home with me I have lots of yummy food> I wonder if he .... or she ehem will come with me it would be nice to have such a cute cat around to pet and hang out with seeing the big smile plastered across my face in the reflection of the cute little guy's eyes I got up from the crouching squat position I was in and noticed that the thoughts section of the status screen changed it seemed that the little kitten decided to trust me and follow me home where I gave it some milk and a little meat I had left over in the fridge he seemed to like it seeing as meat was all that was being repeated in his thoughts. I really hope that party I reached out to about entering the F-rank dungeon together will reach out to me and agree to taking me with them because I really need the money maybe I should try and make it more beneficial to them by offering half of anything I get in the dungeon or something no no I can't do that getting nervous I started pacing around the room seeing this my cute little kitten looked at my with disgust in its eyes and thought what is wrong with this human can't it be still. so I cursed out loud.
<I'll have you know if I don't get this job I won't be able to feed you or myself so you should be nervous too actually I need to name you but what should I name you it has to be cute hmmm let me see.>
