Chapter 3

Words couldn't describe it any further, but if one was to make an attempt, one word would come to mind 'magnificent' and even then, the attempt could only be considered as fairly accurate .

If one was to read here, I doubt anything would seem boring, but then again would they even be able to read while being surrounded by such a sight.

Seeing as she wasn't in a rush, she took her time surveying the sky high shelves as well as the sun screen which lit up the entire building

Truly, the expression " beauty is in the eye of the beholder " had no meaning here, as whichever way one was to look at it, it was simply that – beautiful

After a few shameless seconds of gawking at the grandeur of the design and the Lukewarm feel of the place, I decided to pick up my jaw and walk towards a desk tagged 'Librarian'

✨ ✨ ✨

Mrs. Grenger – if the name tag which adorned her side had any truth in it was the librarian's name.

Mrs. Grenger was a short and fat woman, not elderly, probably in her late forties, she had short curly hair lightly touching her shoulders, a big busy and hips to match.

She had on pearl earrings with a matching necklace, a green v collar blouse and matching skirt, a wrist watch in one hand and a file in the other.

The way she smiled made me drop all guard as her's was the first to ever seem real to me over the month past few weeks, maybe it was my speculation but I think she was the first person who didn't cast a 'smile spell' – if one did exist.

She gave off an innocent and loving and inviting aura with just a smile, maybe I had it backwards and she was the only one who did cast a 'smile spell'

" what can I do for ya?" she said with a thick southern accent as her dimples rose along with her smile

"um..." I started to gather my composure as the whimsy of the entire event had caught on with me " I need anything on void witches"

For the first time in my life, I felt confused.

When I was being abused by Jack, although it was scary and painful, I still had the sanity of my predicament, when my mother proceeded to take her life, the reality and simplicity of the situation was not very far from me.

But when I myself referred to the need to have a book titled 'void witch', which for all intents and purposes was an instruction manual for my new life, I quickly felt the uncertainty of the situation.

• What if void witches have to eat human hearts to survive, what if they had to bathe in pigs blood, what if, they had to dance naked in the night, as my mum had once told me they did.

Although she did so in mockery of my childish fascination coupled with a cartoon on the subject, back then, the Idea was that a witch was simply a fairy-tale. But here I am about to learn how to become one....or rather.... Live as one

Mrs. Grenger upon hearing my request promptly tapped a few times on the clear white stand which was her desk

Not even a second later, a book was seen zooming towards them from one of the extremely long shelves. It zoomed at a frightening speed not giving Faith any chance to react before it was caught in the palm of her hand

Holding the book, she gave it to me with a smile

" If ya need anything else just ask?" she beamed with another trademark smile, but before Faith could be entrapped once more, she sped over to an empty table to begin her research .

The first thing that caught her interest was the overall size of her would be biography. It was no larger than a jotter with but a few leaves to its name.

On opening the book, she received another shock as the pages where wholly and unavoidably blank.

Not wanting to raise a false alarm, she checked every single page in the book but still ....nothing

Then returning to the first page, she was startled to find the words

'What would you like to know about void witches'

Scribbled on top.

Taking a few breaths she said

" what is a void witch?"

A few seconds passed and nothing happened

She was beginning to feel stupid but mere moments later she was thoroughly shut up

Ink began writing itself in the page and after a few lines she began taking in the information

• A void witch is one who has mastered the arts of her ancestors, who excelled in the dark arts, specifically the arts of time and space. Being able to use both arts to their fullest

• A void witch is branded with a ring like sigil at her awakening, which symbolises the continuity of her art, most times surpassing even death.

• Most basic spells of void witches include;

1. Chaos orb

2. Blink

3. Midnight

Just to name a few, coupled with the passive ability of being able to see in to the veil of reality

• Above all, a void witch is a darkness user and as such has to remain vigilant so as to retain her sanity at all times.

She stared blankly at the page, rereading it quite a few times and then asking a whole series of questions.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

The accursed bell rang once more, drawing her research tine to a close. She quickly returned the book to Mrs. Grenger and sped up to the door because, she had less than 10 minutes to navigate her way back to her dorm room and undoubtedly, the maze wouldn't spare her.

Lost ... Was what she was, the halls were scarcely filled people, everyone was most likely hurrying to their own rooms to beat the curfew.

Although she hadn't been here for very long, she quickly learnt that in all of GOC, any rule could be disobeyed except for two;

No killing of students and the second being that curfew is mandatory for all students

Being who she was, seeing the first rule, she pushed it aside regarding it as nothing but a harmless joke on High Master Darnell's party. So, she without a doubt, could testify that in her entire time at GOC, no one had ever broken the second and by all means she couldn't be the first.

In a panic, she turned frantically at the intertwining hallways before coming to a halt in front of a black haired boy with dark brown eyes and snow white teeth, which his smile did nothing to hide.

"Hi I'm Mark... i can see your lost... Can I lend you a hand?"
