The worst dinner ever (part one)

It felt like a thousand blades has been shoved into my heart as I thornily watched William walk over to Brittany and took her hand and kissed her knuckles.

I am going die thousands of deaths today.

My stomach grumble inside, I am on the verge of throwing up again as William led Brittany to the former Governor.

"Is she the girl you have been raving about? Grandson." The former governor asked William as he stared at Brittany with admiration. Of course, he is enthralled by her beauty. All the male species in the world get smitten any time they lay their eyes on her.

So William is the grandson of the former governor.

I am a little disappointed. I was hoping William wasn't part of our rich elite social circle. I wish he was just a regular guy from a middle-class family who became a lawyer due to his brilliance not because of his family privilege.

Nonetheless, I believe William earned his law degree.

We were destined to meet after all one way or the other.

His grandfather is a major key to my father winning the election.

And my ambitious father will do everything to win him over hence inviting him over time. Therefore William and I could have met at anytime.

Too bad fate decided to be cruel and bring him back to my life as my sister's fiancé.

"She is one in a million, child. You got an eye for beautiful women just like me when I was your age," The former governor let out a boisterous laugh, making William smile which made my heart thud against the jarring pain in my chest.

"Barbara she took after you. She is as beautiful as you are " The former Governor says to my mother.

My mother smiled, blushing like a teenager told she is beautiful by her crush.

I cringe nearly rolling my eyes. That was eww.

"Dinner is ready shall we go to the dining room." My mother announced. She took the lead and we followed suit to the dining room.

My brother was nowhere to be found. It is not unusual to me. Any time he has a heated argument with my father he runs off. I am not surprised he is leaving New York to go back to apartment in Boston.

I wish he was around. He would have cheered me up, helping the pain in my heart hurt less.

But as we were halfway through the meal. He made an appearance.

"Sorry I am late," My brother pulled the chair by my side and sat down.

My parent glared at him. Shooting him a scolding look.

"Where have you been," I whispered.

"I had to cool off my anger after dad's stupid baseless argument drew me to the edge of my insanity," Charles grumbles, muttering only to my hearing.

"Who are these two?" The former governor glanced at us. Finally noticing I exist.

"She is my youngest daughter, Adeline and he is my only son, Charles,' My father introduced us to him.

Charles and I smiled at him for courtesy seek.

The governor gave me a weird look.

Right, I anticipate this. The adoption question. Wait for it.

"She is your adopted?" And he pops the question as I predicted, making my parents' face flush with embarrassment.

"No, she is our biological daughter. She looks more like my mother," My father explains, adding to the countless times he has explained to numerous dinner guests who get so conflicted with the fact that I look so different from my parents and siblings.

Maybe I need to start pasting DNA test results that prove I have the Pierce blood running through my veins, on my forehead so they can stop asking my parents about my identity.

"We are getting married," Brittany announced. She had a charming smile on her face as she wriggled her fingers flaunting a diamond ring on her finger, I have never seen that ring on her finger.

Did he propose to her today?

My heart gripping hard in my ribcage.

"That's a wonderful news," My mother said with a big smile on her face like a proud mother.

My mother is going to make Brittany flaunt the diamond ring on the faces of her rich snobby friends at the country club to make a statement our family is better than theirs. My sister has managed to catch a wealthy husband from a prestigious family. Her friends will be surely boiling inside with envy.

Oh, I am such a disappointment to her. I have achieved nothing she can brag about to her friends.

"Welcome to the family," My dad says to William with a triumphant smile. With this reunion between William and Brittany, my dad had earned the governor's support. My father is one step toward becoming the next governor of New York.

"Congratulations," I was forced to say after Charles said his. William and Brittany were so engrossed with each other that they failed to give me a reply.

This is the worst day of my life
