Chapter 17: Only You

"Common Maia, hurry up, we are getting late" I said.

"Five minutes, I'm still packing up some things, after that we are ready to go" she replied.

I was really confused, she insisted to be with me for a whole day yet she choose to climb up a high mountain, it is not even beginner friendly.

I'm still wondering why she choose that, maybe she wants to bid farewell to me.

I keep instilling to myself that I can still fix the timeline.

By convincing my grandfather to stop the foundation of the UN, I think it can fix everything, the only problem is that how can I possibly do that.

I heard someone walking down the stairs.

"Let's go?" I said.

I was flabbergasted when I saw Maia.

"What the hell is wrong with you? We are just camping up for a day, not for the whole month" I said.

She is carrying tons of stuffs that might not be useful for the climb, some of those are even just for liesures.

"What's wrong? These are all food you know" she said.

"But we don't need that many, it seems like you are feeding a whole village over there" I replied.

"If we encounter some wild animals, we can give these foods to them, in return, they will not eat us" she said that so proudly, I even saw her eye sparked.

After that, we got into the car and drove for a couple miles.

It is a long ride since mountain ranges are really far from my place, I don't know why she choose this type of activity, we can even go visit an amusement park, shopping, water skiing but instead she choose this vigorous activity.

"Gosh, I'm actually pretty excited, I badly wants to see that ocean of clouds, specially when it is morning" she said.

"Well, you better wake up really early tomorrow or else we won't be able to see it" I replied.

"Yes, I will" she replied.

It is really saddening to think that this could be my last day here in this timeline, I never thought that it will come to this.

There are few things that are baffling me as of now, it is all connected to the existence of my great grandfather.

I never knew that my great grandfather is such a powerful man, I have never seen him before, I only heard him in the stories.

All I knew is that he's also a very intellectual person, since I'm often compared to him, my father told me that he is also a physicist, a great one, that's all.

Actually, I never thought that he founded an organization that can be a huge threat to the existing peace in the world.

On the other hand, his grandson is the reason why his organization paved the way to create dominance, what a troublesome family.

The success of the project depends on me, but I don't know what type of man is my grandfather, he can be cruel or a sociopath, who knows?

Would he even believe me if I told him that I was his grandson? Of course it will sound preposterous, specially in that timeline, they all think that time travel is dead end.

I'm clueless on what to do.

"Yay, we are here!" she exclaimed.

I never seen her this happy, I guess I still don't know this side of her.

As I have looked in the mountain, I already felt really exhausted.

"Are you sure that's the mountain that we are climbing? Holy mac'n cheese, that's really high, it will take us tons of hours just to climb that" I said.

"Arent you excited? Is this your first time climbing mountains?" she asked.

"Yeah, this is my first time"

"And also, how can I be exhausted? Just look at that mountain, how can we even reach the peak of it?" I replied.

"You're being a pessimist, just think positive, we'll reach the top in no time" she said.

After a few hours, we're still walking endlessly, it seems like the summit of the mountain is still far from reach, I'm pretty exhausted and in the verge of puking.

"Are we still not there?" I asked.

"It is my first time here, I'm not actually sure" she replied.

"Then why did you even choose to do this? We can go shopping and such but instead you choose to do this exhausting climb" I said.

"Can we rest for a while? I'm actually getting too tired" I added.

"I actually want to see the view here, at least once, with you" she said.

I actually blushed for a little bit, I never thought that she has ideas like this, I'm glad that I came here.

Few hours have passed again, and we are almost at the summit of the mountain.

"Look! We are almost there, is this the best you've got?" she said.

"Maia, can't we just rest for a bit? I'm too tired" I said it while inhaling and exhaling really fast.

Dang it, my legs are numb, we've been walking for a long period of time, it is already afternoon but we are still walking.

She grabbed me in the hand and pulled me.

"Just a little more, we're almost over there" she said it with a smile.

Her smile is already enough to replenish my energy, it seems like I'm back to the time were we first met in the past. She also gave me a smile like this.

Though it is not the time to reminisce, but it feels really nostalgic.

"We're here!" Maia shouted.

Woah, I never expected the summit to be this good.

The air feels so cold, the oxygen is really thin, the clouds are within our reach, it is so moist.

"See? Do you still think that this is a bad idea?" Maia asked.

"Of course not, I never doubted your decision in the first place" I replied and then smirked at her.

"What a liar" she added.

We walked towards the camping site, this is the place in which the visitors should set up their tents and such, setting tents and shelters outside the camping site is actually prohibited.

They are implementing this in order to prevent the campers from destroying the plants nearby.

There are also some few peoples here, they are already done setting up their tents.

They seems like they are really affable so I guess I don't have to worry.

"Now, we're finished. Finally, we can rest, this hike is really tiresome" I said

"Who told you that we can rest already?" she replied.

"I still got something to show you" she said.

We left the camp for a while and then followed the path, maybe there are still some good places here.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"Shhh, just shut up and walk" she replied.

As we are walking and following the path, we sake a huge lake that is visible in the peak of the mountain.

The view is really good, it feels like you're in heaven.

"Look, we're right on time, it looks like the sun's about to go down. Let's watch the sun set for a while, can we?" she asked.

"Of course, if that's what you want" I replied.

The sun is slowly going down, the sky is slowly turning into pink, orange and red, it looks so beautiful, it is my first time seeing it.

"So I guess this is farewell? I'm really sorry if I'm not able to do anything" Maia said.

Her tears is slowly falling down from her eyes.

She's crying.

"I really wish that I can stay a bit longer" I said.

"No, I wish that we can stay here, forever" she replied.

"I don't want you to go" she said.

"I know"

As soon as I said that, I have seen her cry even more.

"You'll come back, right?" she asked.

"Will you wait for me?" I asked.

"As long as you will come back, I wouldn't mind waiting" she said.

"And what if I don't?"

"Don't be like that, why don't you cheer me up instead?" she said it with a smile.

"Amiel? Tell me. What does the future looks like?" she asked.

"I think I'm not the right person to answer that question. The future is boring and dull, it's all black and white, and that's because there's no you" I said.

"Thanks for coming back, I really appreciate it" she said.

"If you only knew how I badly want to be with you"

"I know" she replied.

"Promise me one thing" she added.

"What is it?"

"No matter where you go, don't fall for someone else" she said.

"I won't"

"I will always love you, you and to every you in 2017"

"There will never be farewell, my lover"
