LEWIS’ POV
The boat rocked with the rhythm of the waves. The two college kids who had worked for Lewis the last two years moved about with the practice of those who had done the work before and didn’t need to be told. That was a good thing, as the fish were active. Lewis wiped sweat from his forehead as they put out the nets again.
It had been a productive day with above-average catches. The boys whistled as they bent over their work, since they knew that payday would be good this week. It was trending to be the best summer yet for Lewis. He would love to get enough money to put down on a house—or, at least, that had been his dream.
Lewis spent the day thinking over his conversation with Suzanne. It didn’t sit well with him how he had handled the entire thing.
For years, he had wanted to tell her how he had felt. A part of him had hoped she knew and felt the same. But that was not how he wanted to profess his feelings to her. It all came out wrong.
